POPULARITY
Layne Montgomery is the charismatic musician, singer/songwriter and frontman for his band The Great American Novel and creator of the theme song to another popular podcast Blank Check with Griffin and David! His new album with GAN, “Extremely Loud and Incredibly Online” was released August 27th and we talk about his writing process, his hilarious and somewhat abusive group chat with his band mates, creating music during covid, touring and the pains of self promotion, the revival of great 90s bands, his influences, growing up with parents who are both entertainers (his dad's a musician and his mom is comedian, Carole Montgomery, who is currently filming her third Showtime special) growing up in Vegas, and our mutual love for the show Scrubs. Enjoy! Check out their new album here: https://thegreatamericannovel.bandcam...
Layne made the podcast a new theme song because he is a passionate rock and roll boy who likes podcasts. Check out his band LAYNE MONTGOMERY PAPER COMPANY and his Twitter @BuffaloSpringsteen
For the monumental 150th episode we premiere a new theme song by friend of the show LAYNE MONTGOMERY from LAYNE MONTGOMERY PAPER COMPANY. He does the rock and roll music real good. Then @Malive from the wonderful podcast @AFewBeersIn joins me to discuss why this podcast is ultimately bad, podcast longevity, Phil Elverum and Michelle Williams, the wonderful Star Wars novel Lost Stars by Claudia Grey, the positive parts of the Star Wars fandom, Clone Wars and Rebels, Ben Affleck's ultimately bad movie career, and much more. We also got a call from previous guest Kevin Stariker where we rank the Mission Impossible movies and talk about how wonderful and horny Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again is. Thanks for listening. 150 more I guess.
Old friend of the show Layne Mongtgomery is here to catch us up on what Tom DeLonge has been up to, SXSW bathroom ordeals, his new band The Romantic Comedy, being worn out by the world, Star Wars news, Better Cole Slaw, My Chemical Romance, how cool comic books and hockey are, the hate pit, how cool Layne's mother is and more. We also shout out to Harris Wittels for his birthday.
Musician and Blank Check theme song creator Layne Montgomery (The Romantic Comedy) joins #thetwofriends to lock the gates in our final episode of the Cameron Crowe mini series and discuss Crowe’s most recent project, the Showtime series Roadies. But does Cameron’s return to his roots pay off? Is the portrayal of the music industry actually relevant? Will this show get another season? Together the gang examines the ten episodes (so you don’t have to) including Ron White’s performance as an embalmed corpse, Luke Wilson’s Verizon commercials and Carla Gugino's filmography.
Comedian Carole Montgomery and her son, Layne, appear on this episode of the Based on Nothing podcast! Of course, Layne is a frequent guest but we've never heard from his very hilarious mother who has been a comedian for most of her life! Carole is known as the National Mom due to her involvement in Armed Forces Entertainment, which brings comedy overseas to the US military. In this episode, she talks with Jacob about her times starting out, the modern comedy scene, and how much Layne is a brat.Remember to email us at info@basedonnothing.net and subscribe and review us on iTunes!

It's been two weeks since the last episode and Where's the Brand New Album? is slowing down discussion about a specific record from Brand New and just talking about the band themselves. This episode plays around with format -- two guests! three segments! -- in which conversation goes as far as the band's silent presence, those mysterious demos, the music scene in general, Kevin Devine, and the extremely popular Layne Montgomery. Andrew Gelburd and Matthew Ryan join in for "Fighting Off Your Deja Devil Demons."Don't forget to subscribe to us on iTunes, follow us on Twitter, and email us at info@basedonothing.net!
In the first episode of Tired of Weezer, hosts Spenser Milo and Layne Montgomery delve into the band's debut album commonly known as The Blue Album. They shamelessly talk optimistically about the band as if it's 1994 and not 2014, and get into some personal stories about the album's affects on both of them. Jacob Harrington pops in to give a third opinion about the album. Also Layne eats dinner.
In the fourth episode of the podcast, Jacob and Spenser welcome guest Natasha Dye! The three of them discuss the adventure that is OK Cupid, the television show that is Pretty Little Liars, and just why the hell previous guest Layne Montgomery is there to disrupt Natasha's moment. Conversation also includes baby names, animal movies, vomit, and Taylor Swift's cats. Be sure to follow Natasha on Twitter here. Layne Montgomery, of the contemporary pop group The Great American Novel, stops by No Wrong Answers to shoot the shit with Lucy and Alejandro about Moms, Teenage Rebellion, Books, and a whole bunch of great shit. The podcast culminates in Lucy telling one of the greatest jokes that has ever been written. Seriously, it's amazing.
