Reflix 182 – Lanternas acende uma nova luz sobre o universo da DC

Reflix

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 22, 2026 34:11

Valeu a espera? A abordagem policial funciona?

This week, Da7e and Neil have been pulled out of Westeros in a green bubble and asked whether they are afraid of a new Damon Lindelof show. The answer? Absolutely not.In The Calm [05:10], they break down the pilot episode of Lanterns and highlight its many influences, from True Detective vibes to Fargo vibes to a promise of cosmic shenanigans. They also check in on some familiar tropes like Bad Dads, Time-hopping Mysteries, and Mythology Deconstructions. Then in The Storm [48:04], your faithful hosts use their knowledge of the comics, the "Weeks Ahead" trailer, and lack of screener access to lay down some theories about where this story will go, including the very important questions around why the show is specifically and simply called "Lanterns" (with no color-based qualifier).Next week, the Lanterns journey continues with episode two of eight. Avengers Doomsday Trailer Breakdown, the New X-Men Cast, and the Lanterns Premiere

Geek Freaks

Marvel finally put the MCU X-Men cast on stage at D23, and Adam Driver as Mister Sinister might not even be the most interesting name on the list. Frank and Thomas break down the new Avengers: Doomsday trailer, the full X-Men lineup, the X-Men '97 season 2 finale, and the Lanterns premiere on HBO. The Doomsday conversation starts where most fan reactions did, with Robert Downey Jr.'s voice under the Doom mask, and moves into power scaling against Thor, the Reed and Victor history the trailer is quietly setting up, and which legacy characters are unlikely to survive December 18. From there it's the casting reveals: Christopher Abbott as a much younger Professor X, a Magneto without the Holocaust backstory, Inde Navarrette stepping into a role Lenore Zann has owned for three decades, and Maya Boyd going from Broadway to Storm with no screen credits at all. The back half turns critical. X-Men '97 season 2 lands an 8 out of 10 from both hosts, with a long argument about why the resurrection plotting undercut Nightcrawler's sacrifice and why the middle stretch never matched the Egypt episodes. Then it's full spoilers on Lanterns, including the ending, the Watchmen and True Detective fingerprints all over it, and predictions about the 2016 timeline and where Guy Gardner fits. 0:00 December 18 plans, Dune vs. Avengers Doomsday 2:20 Avengers Doomsday trailer, Doom's voice and power scaling 9:15 The MCU X-Men cast reveal from D23 22:50 Vision Quest first look and the case for bringing Ultron back 26:23 Star Wars Starfighter and the rest of the D23 slate 27:55 X-Men '97 season 2 finale review and grades 38:41 Lanterns series premiere, full spoilers 55:33 Weekly recommendations Key takeaways The Doomsday trailer sold Doom as a real successor to Thanos, largely on the strength of one shot stopping Stormbreaker and throwing Thor back. Marvel is casting the X-Men young on purpose. Magneto reportedly loses the Holocaust background entirely because of it, which Thomas calls pivotal enough to worry about. Inde Navarrette reads as an early, guarded Rogue rather than the fully powered version from the comics or X-Men '97, and the real question is how she sounds next to Lenore Zann's voice. Adam Driver as Mister Sinister lines up with the gene manipulation groundwork already laid in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. X-Men '97 season 2 gets an 8 from both hosts. The voice work, especially A.J. LoCascio's shift once Gambit takes back control, holds up even where the pacing does not. Lanterns plays like prestige HBO rather than DCU house style, and its best material is the pilot's first five minutes and the jailhouse interrogation, not the constructs. Quotes "How many times can you kill Patrick Stewart?" (Thomas, on the Doomsday casualty list) "This one felt like, oh, all hands on deck." (Thomas, on the Doomsday trailer) "The idea of resurrecting somebody needs to feel impossible to you." (Frank, on X-Men '97 season 2) "There's this cognitive dissonance for me with this season." (Thomas, on grading X-Men '97) "Both these men are living false perspectives of what it means to be a hero." (Frank, on Hal and John in Lanterns) All news covered on this episode comes from GeekFreaksPodcast.com, including the full D23 announcement roundup and the footage that never got an official release. When Academy Award winning actor Matthew McConaughey decided it was time to open up thirty six years of personal journals, he packed up a truck with beef, bourbon, and twenty gallons of water, heading off to an undisclosed desert for fifty two days. The journey behind his bestselling memoir, Greenlights, took a pivotal turn when his initial ghostwriter fell through, creating an unexpected green light asset that forced him to write every word himself. From unpacking how yellow and red lights in life can eventually serve as crucial navigational tools to engineering more affirmative moments in our daily lives, Matthew brings his signature philosophical approach and warm humor to a deeply reflective conversation. Beyond the writing process, Matthew opens up about the core principles that shape his approach to family and parenting. He reflects on his upbringing surrounded by outlaw logic, recounting childhood misadventures like stolen pizza and lumber that ultimately became profound lessons on truth, hustle, and the value of time. He also breaks down how winning an Oscar turned into a masterclass in delayed gratification for his three children, and shares his ongoing desire to remove creative filters by living life in one long, unfiltered live take. Matthew McConaughey is an Academy Award winning actor, philanthropist, author, and professor. After breaking out in the film Dazed and Confused, he went on to star in a wide array of acclaimed projects, including A Time to Kill, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Interstellar, and True Detective. His performance in Dallas Buyers Club earned him the Academy Award for Best Actor. He is also the author of the New York Times bestseller Greenlights and serves as a minister of culture for the University of Texas at Austin. Make sure to get Greenlights. If you've ever wondered whether farmland should be taken out of row crop production to make it easier for the next generation of farmers to get started, this episode is for you. We kick things off with listener Q&A and tackle one of agriculture's biggest questions: would reducing row crop acres actually help young farmers, or would it create even bigger problems? From there, we dive into the growing conversation around relay cropping (intercropping) and discuss why innovative farmer Jason Mauck has so many people in agriculture paying attention. Is this the future of row crop farming, or just another interesting experiment? We share our thoughts on this interesting way to farm. We also discuss replanting soybeans after deer damage, discuss practical ways to reduce deer pressure, and talk through how many we think need to be eliminated. Then we break down the recent John Deere right-to-repair lawsuit. What does the ruling actually mean? Will farmers notice any real changes in the shop or out in the field, or is this story bigger in the headlines than it is in everyday farming? Of course, it wouldn't be Talk Dirt to Me without getting off the beaten path. We reveal our Top 3 songs we'd want played at our own funerals, revisit classic comedies like Old School, somehow end up talking about True Detective, and prove once again that no topic is ever completely off limits. This week on Truth to Power, we bring you a community conversation from the Aspen Ideas Festival in recognition of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the formation of the United States of America. The program called "America in Her Own Words" was organized by Theater of War Productions, which was honored to return to the Aspen Ideas Festival last week to present this year's closing session to help celebrate and interrogate the 250th anniversary of the United States. Actors David Strathairn (Goodnight and Good Luck, Lincoln), Michael Potts (The Wire, True Detective), and Kathleen Chalfant (Familiar Touch, The Affair) performed excerpts from Fourth of July speeches by Abraham Lincoln, Frederick Douglass, and Susan B. Anthony to catalyze a guided audience discussion about how reckoning and repair are fundamental to the promise and process of American democracy. The texts included sections from “What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?” delivered by Frederick Douglass at an Independence Day celebration in Rochester, New York on July 5, 1852; “The Electric Cord Speech” delivered by Abraham Lincoln from the balcony of Tremont House in Chicago, Illinois on July 10, 1858; and the “Declaration of Rights of the Women of the United States” written by Matilda Joslyn Gage, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Susan B. Anthony and read by Anthony on July 4, 1876 at Independence Hall in Philadelphia during the Centennial Celebration. Following the readings, thoughts were shared by panelists Abayomi Lewis (Singer; Poet; “American Idol” Contestant), Chuck Sams (Director, Indigenous Programs, Yale Center for Environmental Justice; Former Director, U.S. National Park Service), and Jeh Johnson (Former U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security; Chair, Board of Trustees, Columbia University). They candidly responded to these speeches and kicked off a powerful discussion with the audience. We're back in the swamp this week to wrap up a full-scale forensic examination of the most dysfunctional family tree in television history. What started as a simple murder investigation, eventually starts feeling like someone dumped a thousand-piece puzzle onto the floor, set half the pieces on fire, and then whisper, “Good luck. Now get me a beer.” The back half of True Detective Season 1 sees Rust Cohle and Marty Hart venture deeper into the labyrinth of cults, corruption, secret connections, suspicious relatives, suspicious churches, suspicious politicians, suspicious lawn ornaments, and approximately 47 people who should have been put on a watchlist years ago.Every new clue somehow creates six new suspects.Every suspect somehow creates three new cousins.Every cousin somehow belongs to a cult.Nobody is having a good time. The deeper the mystery goes, the more the gang becomes convinced that Louisiana itself might be the true villain. At some point, this feels less like detective work and more like trying to untangle Satan's family ancestry, with a conspiracy board so large that by the end, we're pretty sure Carcosa qualifies as its own zip code, and every Reddit thread about this season transforms into a doctoral thesis written by someone who hasn't slept since 2014. But then True Detective catches everyone off guard by quietly reminding us that the real horror might be becoming an older version of yourself and realizing you never figured anything out. Rude. We watch Rust and Marty as the years pile up, the mistakes linger, the regrets settle in, relationships crumble, and the frozen dinners multiple. Suddenly, the show isn't just about catching monsters, it's about what happens when life catches you. Again. Rude. We celebrate Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson as one of the greatest television duos ever assembled. Rust spends most of the season looking like a man who hasn't slept since the Clinton administration, while Marty spends most of the season realizing that every terrible decision he's ever made has achieved sentience. Together they form the most emotionally damaged buddy-cop partnership in history, and we love them for it. This week, we travel down south to crack open the first three episodes of True Detective Season 1 (2014), created by Nic Pizzolatto and directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga, and immediately find ourselves trapped in a Louisiana swamp of murder, cosmic dread, existential philosophy, and enough cigarette smoke to permanently alter local weather patterns. For the first few minutes, we attempt to discuss the seasonlike normal human beings. That plan failed instantly. First-time viewer Josh immediately gets thrown into the deepend of a world where phrases like “The Yellow King,” “Carcosa,” and “Time is a flat circle,” are considered fairly normal, while Matthew McConaughey's performance as Rust Cohle resembles a man who approaches every conversation like he's trying to convince a gas station cashier that reality itself is a clerical error. Rust doesn't solve crimes, he wanders into a room, says something that permanently alters your worldview, and then chain-smokes in silence while the light fades from your eyes. Heavy s@!t.Meanwhile, Woody Harrelson's Marty Hart spends the first three episodes desperately trying to keep the investigation on track while Rust repeatedly attempts to turn every police briefing into a college lecture titled: "Why Existence Was a Mistake: An Introduction."The chemistry between McConaughey and Harrelson remains absolutely legendary. It's less "buddy cop drama" and more: One man attempting to solve a murder while the other attempts to solve reality itself.Of course, because this is a CREEP-O-RAMA episode, things eventually spiral into topics that absolutely do not help solve the case. 399 Disclosure Day TMNT Pizza Ocarina Remake Management RegretDoom Scrolling IntroThe Foos are one episode away from 400, and while a big blowout special is still a “real big maybe,” they take a moment to acknowledge the milestone and the long, weird road to getting there. They recap a productive weekend, including house chores and a trip to LA to see Sparta open for Local H opening for The Toadies at the Belasco. Joe nerds out over Sparta's At the Drive-In connection, Local H's two-piece setup that somehow sounds like a full band, and The Toadies delivering plenty from the Possum Kingdom era. Also: a drunk guy in the pit goes way harder than the songs require. This week's Florida story features a fugitive accused of stealing crab legs from Winn-Dixie, then allegedly hiding inside an air conditioner air handler behind ductwork while his girlfriend hides in a closet. Because in Florida, seafood theft apparently turns you into HVAC.Geeking Out starts with Steven Spielberg's new alien thriller Disclosure Day, which opened big and brings Spielberg back into the alien-movie conversation. The Foos talk practical creativity versus AI, including Emily Blunt reportedly creating her alien clicking voice herself instead of using AI.Then it's food and nostalgia: the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles pizzeria is opening in Santa Monica on June 20, fully decked out with cartoon-style décor, merch, neon turtle faces, and a pizza pickup counter designed like the front of the Turtle Van. They also shout out 50 Burger in Upland as a legit local smash burger spot.Nintendo drops a nostalgia bomb with a Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time remake planned for 2026, plus Switch/Switch 2 news and more from Nintendo Direct. The Foos compare it to the larger trend of remakes and remasters like Resident Evil and Final Fantasy.DC talk continues with Lanterns, the upcoming HBO Max series being pitched like a darker detective drama in the style of True Detective, plus My Adventures with Superman returning with a Reign of Superman-inspired season.Steph also spotlights Larry David's upcoming historical comedy series The Life, Larry, and the Pursuit of Unhappiness: An Almost History of America, which looks exactly like Larry David being dropped into major moments in history and complaining his way through them.Tech Talk makes a brief appearance with Logitech's MobiFold, a tiny foldable portable mouse that sounds surprisingly practical. They also remind listeners that Doug Brody's Shelley: Our Evolution is coming out June 19, and Steph is already deep into the book. Here's What I Would Do gets unusually existential:Michael (Irvine) got the management promotion he worked toward for years, but now misses the hands-on work he actually enjoyed.Rachel (Pasadena) isn't sure whether she wants kids, because both versions of the future — parenthood or child-free life — seem like they could be happy, and choosing one means letting go of the other.ChaptersDoom Scrolling IntroIntroOne episode away from 400 + possible milestone episodeBelasco recap Sparta Local H ToadiesDrunk pit energy during songs that did not need itFlorida fugitive steals crab legs hides in air conditionerGeeking Out Spielberg alien thriller Disclosure DayEmily Blunt practical alien voice vs AITMNT pizzeria opening in Santa Monica June 2050 Burger Upland smash burger shoutoutNintendo Direct Ocarina of Time remake nostalgia bombLanterns HBO Max True Detective superhero vibeMy Adventures with Superman Reign of Superman seasonLarry David historical comedy series previewLogitech MobiFold foldable portable mouseDoug Brody Shelley Our Evolution June 19Here's What I Would Do Promotion regret Michael IrvineHere's What I Would Do Deciding whether to have kids Rachel PasadenaOutro + Doom Scrolling Outro

Long before serial killers became podcast and true crime doc celebrities in the US, there was Joe Ball: a bootlegger, bar owner, womanizer, and suspected murderer who kept a pit full of hungry alligators behind his Texas tavern. In the late 1930s, as women connected to Ball began disappearing one after another, rumors spread that "The Alligator Man" wasn't just feeding stray animals to his reptiles—he might have been feeding them people... X-MEN '97 SEASON 2 & DC GREEN LANTERNS OFFICIAL TRAILER REACTION & BREAKDOWN!! Check out the DC Studios: Showcase Podcast HERE https://app.magellan.ai/listen_links/... Greg & Coy dive into two of the most exciting trailer drops in the comic book world: Marvel Animation's X-Men '97 Season 2 and HBO/DC Studios' upcoming Green Lantern series, Lanterns. From nostalgic mutant mayhem to cosmic detective drama, we break down all the biggest moments, reveals, and what they could mean moving forward. First up, the X-Men '97 Season 2 trailer teases the next chapter following the shocking events of Season 1. Fan-favorite mutants return, including Cyclops, Jean Grey, Rogue, Storm, Beast, Gambit, and Wolverine—with voice talent like Ray Chase (Final Fantasy XV, Demon Slayer) as Cyclops and Jennifer Hale (Mass Effect, The Last of Us) as Jean Grey continuing to lead the charge. The footage hints at deeper fallout within the team, escalating threats, and the possible rise of iconic villains like Mr. Sinister and Apocalypse, all while maintaining the bold, retro animation style that made the revival a hit. We also break down the first look at Lanterns, the highly anticipated DC series centered on the Green Lantern Corps. The show stars Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights, Bloodline) as veteran Lantern Hal Jordan and Aaron Pierre (Rebel Ridge, Krypton) as John Stewart, pairing two iconic ring-bearers in what's being described as a grounded, True Detective-style mystery on Earth. The trailer hints at a darker tone, intergalactic stakes, and possible connections to the broader DC Universe, with teases of the Guardians of the Universe and the emotional spectrum mythology. Other confirmed Characters for X-Men '97 S2 include: Scott Summers / Cyclops, Jean Grey, Ororo Munroe / Storm, Logan / Wolverine, Morph, Rogue, Dr. Henry “Hank” McCoy / Beast, Erik “Magnus” Lehnsherr / Magneto, Professor Charles Xavier, Apocalypse / En Sabah Nur, Kurt Wagner / Nightcrawler, X-Force, & more... Join us as we react to every standout moment, speculate on what's coming next, and discuss how both Marvel and DC are shaping the future of their on-screen universes. When the guy arrived at the venue, a staff member put a blindfold over his eyes. After that, Adam was taken someplace and left alone. After waiting in silence for a couple of minutes, the guy pulls the blindfold off. He's in a rather large room. There's nothing there except for 4 doors. The guy feels something's wrong, but he can't grasp what exactly. And suddenly, he realizes - the ceiling is going down! He needs to get out of the room and fast! He examines the doors more closely. Over the past three decades, Matthew McConaughey has starred in more than 50 films, won an Academy Award for Dallas Buyers Club, delivered an Emmy-nominated performance in True Detective and topped bestseller lists with his memoir, Greenlights, but he's still chasing something more meaningful. In his latest project, The Lost Bus, he tells the gripping true story of a school bus driver who risked everything to save 23 children during the 2018 Camp Fire, California's deadliest wildfire. McConaughey sits down with Willie Geist to reflect on acting alongside his teenage son Levi and his 93-year-old mother in the film and how the project deepened his perspective on fatherhood, legacy, and what really matters.
