in this undated episode, gene Lockhart stars in this unusual Christmas drama. It's a story of a man who faces being ruined by his own greed. The storm at sea…
E. Lockhart understands the struggle of being a teenager. Her first novel We Were Liars was a standout YA hit of 2014, celebrated (and at times, criticized) amongst teens in particular for its twisty and devastating coming-of-age narrative set on a fictional island near Martha's Vineyard. Lockhart returns to the East Coast for We Fell Apart, her third book in the series, crafting another summer tale of mystery and self-discovery. In today's episode, Lockhart joins NPR's Juana Summers to discuss her newest novel, and what we could all learn from teenagers — and perhaps their reading habits too.To listen to Book of the Day sponsor-free and support NPR's book coverage, sign up for Book of the Day+ at plus.npr.org/bookofthedayLearn more about sponsor message choices: podcastchoices.com/adchoicesNPR Privacy Policy

Today, we're focusing on the topic of style with content creator and disability advocate April Lockhart. She began her career in fashion and beauty, working for companies including Victoria's Secret, Tarte, and Caudalie. While working a 9-to-5, she also created content on the side, and in 2022, she gained traction for her series Normalizing Disabled Fashion Girlies. When she realized she was earning five times her salary from her side hustle and maxing out her PTO, she decided to leave her role as director of influencer and partnerships at Ilia Beauty to pursue content creation full-time. In addition to her work as a creator, Lockhart is also a disability advocate. This year, she founded Disabled&, a community for creatives with disabilities. In this episode, she gets into what it's like to go to fashion week as an influencer, the state of disability representation in fashion, and why inclusive design is so important.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
In this episode of "Normal World," Dave Landau, 1/4 Black Garrett, and Angela open with a conversation about Hollywood's “nepo babies” before turning to a sketch about new U.K. rules on sugary drinks. Restaurants and cafés across England can no longer offer free refills of sodas like classic Coca-Cola, a policy meant to reduce sugar consumption and address obesity. What begins as light satire on regulation and moderation expands into a wider look at excess, nostalgia, and the everyday habits that shape culture. The discussion shifts toward family and belief as the hosts share stories of childhood, fear, and the lessons passed down from parents who lived through war. Their conversation balances humor and honesty while exploring how people carry those experiences into adulthood. They move into questions of justice and self-defense, considering how modern law defines morality and how far society has drifted from common sense. The group also examines America's dependence on pharmaceuticals and the way prescription culture has changed mental health and medicine itself. The episode closes with reflections on creativity, wellness trends, and classic horror films including Cabin in the Woods and Gremlins 2. Through it all, the hosts find meaning in how people use humor, art, and resilience to make sense of an increasingly absurd world. Today's guest on "Normal World" are Gerard Michaels and Donna Lee. Preaching is never meant to stop at information - it is meant to produce transformation. That was the heart of Eric Lockhart's message, Preaching for Change and Obedience, delivered at the Expositors Collective training event in Kampala on 13 September 2024. With warmth and clarity, Eric urged preachers to stay rooted in the biblical text while pressing their listeners toward holiness and obedience through Spirit-empowered application. He reminded participants that the preacher's task is not to simply talk about the Bible but to faithfully declare what the Bible says. Using the image of a river, Eric explained that the power of preaching flows from the Holy Spirit working through the proclamation of Scripture. The goal is not to impress hearers with knowledge but to persuade them toward faithful action in response to God's Word.Eric also highlighted the necessity of application, both in the preacher's own life and in the lives of the audience. Biblical truth, he insisted, always demands a response. Application may be woven throughout a sermon or drawn out at the end, but it must be Christ-centred, specific, and actionable. In doing so, preaching helps believers become doers of the Word and not hearers only.Mr Eric Lockhart serves as Deputy Principal of Academic Affairs at Uganda Baptist Seminary. He holds an MDiv and ThM from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in North Carolina, and before moving to Uganda in 2018 with his wife and four boys, he pastored in the USA for fourteen years. At UBS, he lectures on Hermeneutics and Homiletics and continues to champion preaching that does more than inform - preaching that transforms.Mr. Eric Lockhart is First Deputy Principal of Academic Affairs at Uganda Baptist Seminary in Jinja, UG where he also serves as Lecturer. In addition, he serves with the International Mission Board (IMB) as the Theological Education Strategist for Sub-Saharan Africa.
