We know that air flight is - for the most part - extraordinarily safe. On any given day, about 100,000 flights take off and land, safely, across the globe. The air tragedies that do make the front page news, like Malaysia Airlines’ MH17 flight, which was shot down by a Russian-made missile in 2014, are exceedingly rare. But unbeknownst to most of us, many pilots experience difficulties with their GPS signals. And, these difficulties are reportedly increasing. Today, senior reporter Chris Zappone, on this persistent, but relatively under-reported problem that pilots face so regularly. And how much of a threat it is to our safety. Reliable software shouldn't be an accident, but for most developers it is. Jeremy Edberg, CEO of DBOS and the guy who scaled Reddit and Netflix, joins Corey Quinn to talk about his wild idea of saving your entire app into a database so it can never really break. They chat about Jeremy's "build for three" rule, a plan for scale without going crazy, why he set Reddit's servers to Arizona time to dodge daylight saving time, and how DBOS makes your app as tough as your data. LiquidTrust: A New Era of Cross-Border Payment Protection for Small Business w/ Saujin Yi - AZ TRT S06 EP11 (273) 6-29-2025 What We Learned This Week · SMBs Face Major Risk in Cross-Border Payments Small businesses are exposed to significant risk when dealing with international suppliers, lacking the same protections that consumers receive. · Traditional Bank Wires Are Outdated for Global SMB Transactions Bank wires, SWIFT networks, and intermediary banks remain the default but are slow, costly, and offer limited recourse if something goes wrong. · Digitized Escrow Can Level the Playing Field A modernized escrow system, like Liquid Trust, can serve as a trusted middle layer in transactions, enabling secure, conditional fund releases. · Banks Are Adopting Fintech Tools for SMB Clients Liquid Trust is expanding by partnering with banks, offering them technology to better serve small businesses with secure payment processing. · A Major Gap Exists for SMB Payment Protections There's a growing opportunity to provide insurance-style protections, dispute resolution, and cash flow tools for smaller, international transactions. Guest: Saujin Yi, Founder - LiquidTrust LKIN: https://www.linkedin.com/in/saujin/ Tech entrepreneur, investor, and advisor focused on fintech, future of work, and backing women/minorities. Personal mission is to create a #newplayingfield. Saujin Yi has been talking to founders and bankers who are watching a payment crisis unfold in real time— small business owners wiring full payments to overseas suppliers, only to have their goods withheld or renegotiated because tariffs shifted mid-transaction. These aren't hypothetical's. Inventory is being held hostage, and most of these businesses have no recourse. Saujin is the founder of LiquidTrust, a fintech platform helping SMBs protect themselves. She talks about: · The tariff whiplash hitting cross-border supply chains · Why small businesses are exposed to all the payment risk · How new tools like LiquidTrust's Micro Escrow Pay are helping level the playing field With LiquidTrust, small businesses can wire to 175 countries with built-in counterparty verification, or opt for a holding account that only releases funds when terms are met. It's a timely conversation and offering that I think SMBs would benefit from learning about. https://www.linkedin.com/company/liquidtrust/ https://www.liquidtrust.io/ 43% of US SMBs make global payments but 75% are unsatisfied with their current options. LiquidTrust is an innovative global pay solution tailored for the needs of small- and medium-sized businesses that also safeguards their transactions from fraud and loss. We offer 2 global payment methods: 1) Direct Pay - Fast global payments to 175 countries within 1-2 days. Safer than traditional wires, with counterparty verification for enhanced security. 2) Pay by Trust ("micro-escrows") - Escrow-like protection against fraud and loss. Offers peace of mind without complexity and high costs of traditional escrows. Of the $6.9T US import/export payment volume, 2/3 goes unprotected because current payment protection products like letters of credit are too complex and expensive. 9 out of 10 SMB owners constantly worry about fraud and loss because non-payment or non-delivery would be devastating to business survival. We partner with banks to make our self-serve, white-label solution available to their current and potential customers and capture the $9B+ revenue opportunity and related deposits. LiquidTrust builds on the foundation established by Liquid (est. 2019), evolving to meet new opportunities. Notes: Segment 1: Solving Cross-Border Payment Risk for SMBs In early 2025, small businesses began feeling the pressure of rising tariffs and payment complications with overseas vendors. For many SMBs, cross-border transactions are a daily reality—but the tools available to them haven't kept pace with the global nature of modern commerce. The Traditional Payment Model Historically, payments to overseas partners have relied on the banking system as the intermediary. This means: · Transactions typically occur via international wire transfers. · These wires use the SWIFT network, involving multiple intermediate banks. · Funds are converted between currencies, often with unpredictable fees or delays. While this may work for large enterprises, small businesses often bear more risk in these transactions, lacking sufficient tools for protection or recourse. Many SMBs today operate a “borderless” business model—based in the U.S. but with 50% or more of their partnerships overseas. The Need for Simplicity and Trust Small businesses need a solution that is: · Reliable for both sides of the transaction · Simple to use without requiring financial expertise · Built on trust, with built-in mechanisms to reduce risk Liquid Trust introduces a new payment model for SMBs—simplifying cross-border payments through a system built around "micro escrow." Segment 2: Micro Escrow: Modern Protection for Small Deals Much like real estate uses escrow accounts to protect both buyers and sellers, Liquid Trust applies the same principle to small business payments. Traditionally, escrow has only been available for large deals. Liquid Trust brings this to small transactions by digitizing the process. Here's how it works: · A buyer can invite and verify a vendor into the platform. · Funds are held in escrow, not released until pre-set conditions are met. · A built-in dispute resolution and arbitration system ensures fairness. · The process is as simple as a "Buy Now, Pay Later" model. This transforms the transaction dynamics. Instead of the buyer taking on 100% of the risk with a wire or upfront deposit, both parties share risk more equitably—improving trust, satisfaction, and cash flow for SMBs. The Bigger Problem: Why Change the System? In the traditional system, there are “winners” and “losers”: · Winners: Vendors who receive payment up front with little risk. · Losers: Buyers who send money and hope everything works out. But smart SMBs realize that keeping vendors happy is also good business. Building long-term trust and smoother cash flow on both sides of a deal can elevate all partners. There's a clear gap in the market: SMBs have no access to tools like consumer credit protections, and banks often don't want to get involved in smaller payments like a $20,000 invoice. It's not profitable for them. Liquid Trust fills this gap. Segment 3: Bank Partnerships: Scaling Trust and Access Initially, Liquid Trust served SMBs directly. But a strategic pivot is now enabling banks, attorneys, and accountants to offer Liquid Trust's technology to their small business clients. Why banks? · They are already trusted advisors for SMBs. · They need better digital tools to serve modern business clients. · They lack solutions for smaller, international transactions. With this new model, banks integrate Liquid Trust into their ecosystem, giving small businesses access to tools they never had before: protections, conditional payments, and streamlined digital processing. The Vision Behind Liquid Trust Liquid Trust was founded by an engineer with a background in finance and technology startups. Originally designed as an accounts payable solution, the platform pivoted after identifying massive friction and risk in global SMB payments. Key insights: · SMBs struggle with payment protections across borders. · Legal recourse is impractical—lawsuits are expensive and hard to enforce internationally. · Many vendors are in regions where you simply can't “go knock on the door.” Liquid Trust, now evolving under the name Escrow Pay, has raised a seed round and is expanding into: · Financial institutions and banks · Online marketplaces · Business-to-business platforms The future of SMB payments lies in trust, transparency, and built-in protections—all delivered through easy-to-use financial technology. Demos are easy; durability is hard. Samuel Colvin has spent a decade building guardrails in Python (first with Pydantic, now with Logfire), and he's convinced most LLM failures have nothing to do with the model itself. They appear where the data is fuzzy, the prompts drift, or no one bothered to measure real-world behavior. Samuel joins me to show how a sprinkle of engineering discipline keeps those failures from ever reaching users. We talk through: • Tiny labels, big leverage: how five thumbs-ups/thumbs-downs are enough for Logfire to build a rubric that scores every call in real time • Drift alarms, not dashboards: catching the moment your prompt or data shifts instead of reading charts after the fact • Prompt self-repair: a prototype agent that rewrites its own system prompt—and tells you when it still doesn't have what it needs • The hidden cost curve: why the last 15 percent of reliability costs far more than the flashy 85 percent demo • Business-first metrics: shipping features that meet real goals instead of chasing another decimal point of “accuracy” If you're past the proof-of-concept stage and staring down the “now it has to work” cliff, this episode is your climbing guide. PlayDayz, a new app designed to help parents connect, arrange playdates, and share childcare within their trusted networks, has launched in Ireland. Developed in partnership with award-winning Irish software firm Square Root Solutions, PlayDayz aims to make playdates and childcare more accessible, affordable, and community-driven. PlayDayz app launches in Ireland Flexible, affordable membership PlayDayz is available exclusively in the Republic of Ireland at launch, with plans to expand soon. All new households receive a 30-day free trial, and membership is flexible with no contracts: Standard (€0.99/month): Parent-child meetups and private playdate childcare. Premium (€1.99/month): Includes all standard features plus a day-care share for school holidays. How PlayDayz works 1. Parent and child meetups Parents can connect with others nearby for one-on-one or group playdates. Whether it's a coffee catch-up or a full day out, PlayDayz makes it easy to coordinate meetups. Parents can also add au pairs or childminders to their profile. 2. Free playdate childcare Parents build a private network of trusted friends, family, or school parents. When they need short-term childcare - like for a gym session or appointment - they send a request. The app's turn-based system ensures fairness, making free, reliable childcare accessible without awkwardness. 3. Day-care share for school holidays (Premium members only) School holidays can be difficult to manage for working parents. PlayDayz helps parents coordinate shared childcare, matching them with others in their area with similar needs. A schedule is generated two weeks in advance, ensuring fair, cost-free childcare and social opportunities for children. Safety and privacy first New users must provide government-issued ID, verified by PlayDayz admins. Personal details are never shared, and all communication is handled via secure in-app messaging. A community-driven solution PlayDayz founder and busy mother, Mia Shepherd, was inspired by her own childcare challenges. "For years, I saw how difficult school holidays were for working parents… Reliable childcare in Ireland is expensive and limited. PlayDayz makes it easy for parents to share responsibilities, while also giving children more opportunities to play and socialise." Mia wanted to create a community-driven solution for short-term childcare while also addressing parents' growing need for social connections. "Since becoming a mother myself, I've often needed childcare for just a couple of hours… but hiring a childcarer for short stints is unrealistic and expensive. With PlayDayz, parents can take turns within their trusted network - so it's free, fair, and easy for everyone. "More recently, I noticed on social media a real desire for parents to meet with others nearby, but no dedicated platform exists for this purpose. So I'm hoping it gives parents a better social life too!" Available NOW PlayDayz is available for download on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Parents in Ireland can join the PlayDayz community and enjoy a free 30-day trial. During Ep. 25 of the Ask the Law Firm Seller Show, Jeremy E. Poock, Esq. addresses the following question: Why should Growing Law Firms pursue growth by acquisition? As Poock explains, Growing Law Firms share the following 3 needs when it comes to their interest to boost the growth of their firms. (1) They need new clients. (2) They need an experienced workforce, including talented lawyers and support staff. (3) During today's 3.0 Digital Era for the legal industry, they need digital content to attract the attention of today's and tomorrow's clients, who continue to look online for lawyers and law firms to hire. Growing Law Firms should pursue growth by acquisition because doing so fulfills their 3 needs, as follows: (1) Senior Attorney-led firms have developed Books of Business literally over decades, which present instant client growth to an acquiring law firm. (2) Senior Attorney-led firms typically have key employee lawyers and para-staff who want and need the following that Growing Law Firms can offer: A Reliable, Safe & Predictable Job. (3) Senior Attorneys and their talented lawyer staff present treasure chests of subject matter knowledge that Growing Law Firms can convert to digital content to publish to multiple channels of digital marketing (egs. LinkedIn & Facebook posts, podcasts, YouTube videos, a monthly e-newsletter, Instagram reels, and more). Poock also points out that the long-time, satisfied clients of a Senior Attorney-led firm present opportunities to request 100s of 5-Star Google Reviews, which today's new clients continue relying upon as they consider retaining a lawyer or law firm. In summary, Poock explains the following: “[I]f you are running a firm and you're thinking about how to grow, what do you need? You need new clients. You need an experienced workforce, and you need digital content to attract the attention of today's and tomorrow's clients who are looking digitally . . . before they are making a call or sending in a contact form or a text to a law firm that they want to hire. Senior Attorney-led firms check all of those boxes by offering them the Book of Business that Senior Attorneys have developed over the course of their careers. They have lawyers and the Senior Attorneys themselves . . . plus para-staff. And, they offer literally treasure chests of digital content to Growing Law Firms.”

We begin this week's episode with a young Mishelle struggling to adjust to life with her grandparents, finding it difficult to accept both the separation from her parents and the reality of what her mother had done. Meanwhile, Lisa is in the midst of a police investigation, undergoing a psychological evaluation and attending therapy. We hear from Bea Yorker—an expert in Munchausen by Proxy and the President of Munchausen Support—and Dr. Mary Sanders, a Clinical Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University and a member of APSAC's Munchausen by Proxy committee. They explain what should have been considered during Lisa's evaluation and what it truly means to "treat" someone with Munchausen by Proxy. Armed with letters from therapists attesting to her remorse, Lisa turns to the online forum MAMA (Mothers Against Munchausen Allegations) to build her case for court. There, she begins digging for information on enemy number one: Bea Yorker. *** Andrea's August 1st event with Gregg Olsen: https://www.libertybaybooks.com/event/west-sound-crime-con-2025-local-authors-gregg-olsen-and-andrea-dunlop Order Andrea's new book The Mother Next Door: Medicine, Deception, and Munchausen by Proxy. What if you could skip the struggle of starting a business from scratch—and step straight into profit? In this solo episode, Jaryd Krause pulls back the curtain on everything you need to know before buying your first (or next) profitable online business. No guest this time—just Jaryd, and over ten years of real-world experience helping thousands of people build financial freedom through smart acquisitions. This episode is a deep dive inspired by Jaryd’s most-watched YouTube content and the questions he hears constantly from aspiring buyers: Why should you buy a profitable business? How much should you invest? Should you use your cash or finance the deal? And where are people buying these businesses today? Get ready for a no-fluff breakdown of: ✔️ Why buying a profitable online business can fast-track your path to income and freedom✔️ How much capital do you need to get started (spoiler: it’s not always as much as you think)✔️ The truth about financing a deal—and what creative structures work✔️ Where to find legitimate, vetted businesses for sale right now✔️ The rookie mistakes that could cost you thousands—and how to avoid them This isn’t financial advice—but it is packed with insights from someone who’s helped people go from browsing listings to building six- and seven-figure digital business portfolios. If you’re ready to move from dreaming to doing, this episode will show you exactly what to consider, what to avoid, and where the real opportunities are in 2025’s online business marketplace. Hit play and take notes—this one’s loaded. Episode Highlights 04:17 – Why buying a profitable online business is better than starting one from scratch? 07:38 – The ideal type of online business to acquire as a beginner. 13:24 – How much money should you invest when buying your first business? 18:43 – Why must you understand the ROI beyond just net profit? 27:46 – Myths around no-money-down deals and what real financing looks like. 31:22 – Where to find online businesses for sale: brokers vs. off-market deals? Key Takeaways ➥ Buying an existing online business is less risky and faster than starting fresh, as you inherit proven systems, traffic, and revenue, reducing trial and error. ➥ “No money down” deals are rare and mostly involve distressed or declining businesses; most require some cash upfront. ➥ Acquisitions usually need a mix of cash, lender, and seller financing, with 10-20% cash upfront to show commitment. ➥ Reliable marketplaces like Empire Flippers, Quiet Light, and Flippa are great starting points for sourcing online businesses. ➥ Sellers often move on not because their business is failing but because of personal reasons like boredom or lifestyle changes, emphasizing the importance of proper due diligence before buying. Give everyone a quick introduction.Topic 2 - Our topic today is Reliable and Trustworthy AI Agents. First off, what's the problem we're solving for here (define reliability and trustworthiness)? Are we solving for hallucinations? Reliability? Connecting private and Enterprise data to models with fine-tuning or RAG?Topic 3 - How is reliability or trustworthiness measured? I would imagine this isn't black and white, but maybe a bit more subjective?Topic 4 - How do Agentic and GenAI differ, if at all, with this model? I would think that since Gen AI lends itself more to the creative side and Agent AI is very deterministic, the approaches to solving the problem might be different. Thoughts?Topic 5 - Let's talk about data pipelines. Today, many organizations take an off-the-shelf frontier or foundational model and then apply a RAG pipeline to it for customization. Sometimes fine-tuning is involved, but in my experience, this is the exception rather than the rule. What is wrong with that architecture today? How is this less reliable?Topic 6 - Let's talk about Hasura and PromptQL. As I understand it, you are decoupling query planning from execution, thereby creating a more deterministic AI workflow. Now… that's a mouthful. Can you break down what this means and explain how the architecture differs?Topic 7 - If anyone is interested, what's the best way to get started?FEEDBACK?Email: show at the cloudcast dot netBluesky: @cloudcastpod.bsky.socialTwitter/X: @cloudcastpodInstagram: @cloudcastpodTikTok: @cloudcastpod

Under President Trump, America's role on the global stage is being redefined — but can other countries trust its allyship under his leadership? Critics argue his transactional approach and threats to abandon allies undermine trust and force nations to reconsider their security. Supporters counter that demanding more from partners is “tough love” that will lead to stronger, more balanced alliances. Now we debate: Is Trump's America a Reliable Ally? Arguing Yes: Joshua Shifrinson, Associate Professor at University of Maryland's School of Public Policy; Nonresident Senior Fellow at the Cato Institute Kelly Grieco, Senior Fellow with the Reimagining US Grand Strategy Program at the Stimson Center Arguing No: Liana Fix, Fellow for Europe at the Council on Foreign Relations Charles Kupchan, Senior Fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations and Professor of International Affairs at Georgetown University Learn more about your ad choices. Hiring isn't the hard part. Leading is. And most coaches aren't burnt out because they're doing too much — they're burnt out because they're still doing everything. They're scared to let go, unclear on what they actually need, and end up building teams that create more noise than momentum. You don't rise by holding tighter. This episode walks you through the real reason your first hire felt off (or why you've been putting it off altogether). I'm breaking down what to fix before you even post the job, how to interview for ownership, and the mindset shift that turns a task-dumper into a leader people want to follow. How Samsung Turns Customer Service Calls into Opportunities for Customer Delight Shep interviews Mark Williams, Head of Customer Care at Samsung Electronics America. He discusses enhancing customer service through smart technology, providing fast and simple support, and utilizing AI tools to create loyal customers and continually improve their experience. This episode of Amazing Business Radio with Shep Hyken answers the following questions and more: How can a brand turn customer service interactions into opportunities for brand loyalty? What are the benefits of proactive customer service? How does smart technology enhance the overall customer experience? What role does customer feedback play in improving the overall service experience? How can artificial intelligence enhance the role of customer service agents? Top Takeaways: Every customer interaction is an opportunity to turn someone into a loyal fan, even a promoter of your brand. Customer service shouldn't just be about fixing problems. It should also be about preventing them. Customer care doesn't always have to be reactive. By using technology to anticipate problems, brands can identify and resolve issues even before customers becomes aware of them. For example, Samsung's smart appliances can alert you to issues like a fridge getting too warm and even schedule a repair before your food goes bad. Loyalty can be built through customer service, even when it comes after a problem or a negative experience. When customers have a great experience getting help, and their problems are solved quickly, they are more likely to buy again and recommend the brand to friends and family. Mark also shares his three core principles: Speed, Simplicity, and Service. Speed: Reduce the time it takes to fix a customer's issue. The sooner you solve the problem, the happier and more loyal your customers become. (In the U.S. Samsung's repair network now covers 99% of the U.S. for consumer electronics, and 81% of Americans are within just a 30-minute drive of same-day mobile service.) Simplicity: Remove confusing policies, eliminate unnecessary steps, and actively listen to employees and customers for ideas on how to simplify processes. Service: When you design experiences that put customers first, understand their needs, and effectively solve their issues, you will attract lifelong customers who will continue to buy from you because they know they can trust you, even when something goes wrong. Create easy ways for employees to share their thoughts and observations on what could be done better. Frontline workers know firsthand which policies and processes work and which ones frustrate customers. AI works best as a tool that helps people, not as a replacement for them. It empowers staff to focus on understanding customers and resolving their issues, while AI provides instant and relevant information that accelerates the process and enhances accuracy. Customer service is an income-generating department. Reliable products are important, but it's the extra mile in service that makes people choose to do business with a brand again and again. Plus, Mark shares why more than half of Samsung's customer care team in the U.S. has been with the company for over 10 years. Tune in! Quote: "Get to customers quicker and solve their problems before they even know they have a problem." About: Mark Williams is the Head of Customer Care at Samsung Electronics America. In this episode, the hosts delve into the reliability of the Bible, with a particular focus on the moral content of scripture and its implications for one's faith. They discuss how younger generations perceive the Bible as unreliable due to its moral teachings, particularly in relation to contemporary cultural values.
