What does it mean to be twice-born? Today, McKay talks about the key characteristic that successful parents and leaders possess - they are twice-born, and when they try a second time, they're more successful because the second time around is an empowering one.   The episode opens with McKay narrating the story of New Orleans when the city was overwhelmed by Hurricane Katrina which ravaged the city, leaving it damaged and killing thousands in the process. The people soon lost faith in the city, until a rebirth occurred. McKay encourages listeners to imagine they are at day one whether struggling with a habit or with a business. Noting that there is immense power in becoming a rookie, McKay gives four helpful tips on how to get in the rookie zone and rounds off with lessons from the movie, Groundhog Day.   The Finer Details of This Episode:   -   New Orleans' Superdome - a story of rebirth. -   What does it mean to be twice-born? -   The devil in Mainville. -   The characteristics of twice-around leaders. -   Lessons from rebuilding a business -   The power in doing the opposite - what George Costanza teaches us -   Being in the rookie zone - Liz Wiseman's research results -   4 tips on how to get into the rookie zone -   Seeing the world from both sides - the power of perspective -   Lessons from Groundhog Day   Quotes:   “It's easy to feel beaten down by the storms of life, discouraged, wondering if you can rebuild what you once had.”   “When you attempt and possibly fail, and then decide to repeat or revive or improve and start again, there's immense power.”   “The second time around gives you perspective. It gives you strength, it awakens your mind to the challenge.”   “Twice-around leaders know how to influence and they lead by example, and build consensus.”   “People are like sticks of dynamite. The power is on the inside, but nothing happens until the fuse gets lit.”   “Begin again with new eyes.”   “There's power in starting again, and going back to year one and being a rookie, again.”   “With experience, comes a lot of virtues and assets but with experience also comes a number of blind spots.”   “In that rookie space, we ask better questions, we're more alert, we listen more, we value feedback, we seek feedback.”   “If I were starting again, what would I do differently?”   “I would trade youth for perspective any day.”   Show Links:   https://www.audible.com/pd/Podcast/B08JJMDXHL (Open Your Eyes with McKay Christensen)

This week Jessie & Stephanie are tackling a big topic: hiring help. Scaling is amazing, but it’s also hard work! At what point do you ask for some help? The tricky part here is that sometimes in order to scale, you HAVE to hire help. But when is the right time? And who do you hire? And what should they do? The first step: relinquish having control over every aspect of your business. This is a tough one for Jessie and Stephanie, who like to have control. Ask yourself: Are you burnt out in your business? Are you burnt out in your personal life? It might be time to learn to delegate!  Step two: figuring out what parts of your business and life you can pay someone else to do! Stephanie’s first hire? Housekeepers! Ask yourself: What burns me out, that if I could hire someone to do it, would free me up to put more focus on the things that matter most… the people I love, and the activities that move the needle in my business? But what about paying them? That can be a super nerve-racking part of hiring your first assistants! Listen in to the episode as Jessie and Steph break it all down. Follow us on social media! Today’s topic is a really exciting one – if you’ve ever wondered, “What the heck am I supposed to be posting?” Then listen up! Because in this episode, we are breaking down five different Instagram stories to attract leads right now in your business.   But first, some advice: when you share value-based information on social media, you need to a) give enough away as well as b) encourage potential clients to reach out to you. So, every post needs to have a clear call to action.   Post Idea #1: Talk About The Problem Your Ideal Client is Facing If you know your ideal client and are really clear on your niche, you should know what problems they have.   Post Idea #2: Share a Story About a Past Client You’ve probably worked with someone before who, without giving away any personally identifying information, you can talk about and share some things about their story that your followers will relate to. If you haven’t worked with many clients yet, you can share your own experience, too!   Post Idea #3: Share a Useful Tool Share a website, app, or other resource that is relevant in your industry.   Post Idea #4: Share End Products of Your Service What are you actually selling? Share it!   Post Idea #5: Answer a FAQ What questions is your ideal client always asking you? What is your ideal client likely sitting on the other end of Instagram wondering?   Follow us on social media! People are always asking us what our top tips are for success building our businesses on social media. If you've been wondering how we do it, whether or not we have professional photographers all the time, and more, then this episode is for you. Remember when Instagram was all food pictures with bad filters? Scroll back far enough in our feeds and you can find it's all still there - our earliest photos, our awkward first Facebook lives, and all the bad filters you can handle. But today our social media strategy looks a lot different! Here are some of our favorite tips... Lead with value: know your audience and what is valuable to them Show who you are personally - people love to find ways to feel connected to you and what you might have in common Should you have a business account that's totally separate from your personal account? We dig in to when it makes sense to separate them and when they should be one and the same! The dreaded video conversation... why it's important to show your face to build that know, like, and trust factor! Nail your niche... because the niches are in the riches! (PS: How do YOU pronounce niche? Does anyone know if there's a "right" way?)  Solve their problems, and repeat that info often! If you know your audience, then you know what they're up against. What are the key differences between having an entrepreneur mindset compared to having an employee mindset? We are digging in to this juicy topic today. Whether you've been thinking about dumping your boss to start your own business or whether you are currently trying to build a business from the ground up, this episode is for you! Myth #1: You have to work during "business hours" from 8-5.  When you're an entrepreneur, you get to set your own schedule - and that means getting done whatever needs to be done whenever you are the most motivated to do it.  Myth #2: You have to be an early-morning person with a strict morning routine to be successful as an entrepreneur. Some people love to go to bed and get started early in the morning - and Jessie is one of them! But other people, like Stephanie, prefer to stay up late after the kids (and the husband!) are in bed, because that's her time to feel the most creative and motivated.  Myth #3: Especially as a solopreneur, there's always more work to be done, so you should always be working. The reality is that we can't just clock out at 5pm, and often our businesses interrupt our evenings and weekends... but especially as solopreneurs, where we are wearing ALL the hats in our businesses, we sometimes just need to take a break. It could be self care, or prioritizing time with friends and family, but no matter what the reason is (even no reason at all!), we officially give you permission to take a break when you need it... without the entrepreneur guilt! Myth #4: There are specific activities that every entrepreneur needs to do each day. A lot of new entrepreneurs and real estate agents find themselves floundering and freefalling when they first get into business... because there's no one telling you what needs to be done or setting deadlines for you. In this episode, we break down different ways different people run businesses, how to figure out which one of those people you are, and therefore how to identify what activities actually need to be done when you are ready to work. Myth #5: Social Media is a waste of time! We hear this ALL the time... there is a lot of judgment out there about focusing on social media. But creating content, filming videos, and cultivating a loyal audience takes a lot of time and energy! And since it's helped us build multi-million dollar businesses, we gotta admit... we think it can be more than worthwhile! And our final tip in this episode: Take control of your schedule before your schedule takes control of you! Set your Do Not Disturb on your phone... use the screen time app settings to remind you when you're distracted on apps that aren't helping you move the needle forward in your business... whatever you have to do to respect your own time. If you can't respect your own time, you can't expect your clients to! You teach others how you want to be treated... so get more tips on managing your time and productivity in this episode.    Follow us on social media! But a curiosity about the greater world led him to an early interest in Japanese manga, a high school study abroad year in Taiwan, and then to mainland China. By day, Nigel uses his fluent Chinese to teach kindergartners, but several nights a week he can be found rocking the mic at one of the many standup comedy gigs around Beijing.
