In California, a group of organizers recently held a virtual press conference urging California governor Gavin Newsom to stop all arrests for prostitution in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. The press conference was hosted by Maxine Doogan of the Erotic Service Providers Legal Education Research Project, Kristen DiAngelo of SWOP Sacramento, Rachel West of US PROStitues Collective, and Cesar Espinoza-Perez of Social Justice: Queer/Trans. All In A Day's (Sex) Work is produced by Blair Hopkins and brought to you in part by SWOP-Behind Bars. Music by New Orleans' own Johnny Sketch and the Dirty Notes. Special thanks as always to Alex Andrews and remember: All In A Day's (Sex) Work is an ever-expanding narrative; if you are a sex worker, partner, patron, or other adult industry-adjacent person, I want to hear from you! Email me at info@ADSWProject.org.

Mainstream discussions of the sex industry have mostly revolved around human trafficking. In this episode we explore why that narrative is misleading and harmful. The interviews featured here were recorded in Nebraska, Rhode Island, Alaska, California, and Illinois. Guests include Terra Burns (Community United for Safety and Protection), Maxine Doogan (the Erotic Service Providers Legal, Educational and Research Project), Bella Robinson (COYOTE RI), Monica Peterson and Rex Hamaker (University of Denver's Human Trafficking Center), Hannah Marshall (Brown University), and Erin Black (The Sexual A-Team). Articles discussed in this episode include The Banks' War on Porn Stars by Richard Abowitz and Marlow Stern, The Case for Decriminalizing Prostitution by German Lopez, Washington Post fact checker Glenn Kessler's Why You Should be Wary About Statistics on 'Modern Slavery' and 'Trafficking' and The Biggest Pinocchios of 2015, Should Prostitution be a Crime? by Emily Bazelon. Also check out Bazelon's follow-up concerning Amnesty International's Policy on State Obligations to Respect, Protect and Fulfil the Human Rights of Sex Workers. Three quick corrections: Maxine (not Terra) interviewed Keyana; Sextraffickingalaska.com is maintained by Community United for Safety and Protection (not just Terra); Last (and in fact least), Chris began gathering audio for this episode in October of 2015 (not September of 2015). We regret these errors.

In this passionate interview with sexuality activist, writer and educator Tina Horn, we dive into the issues of sexual exploration. Discussing the history and vision behind her podcast “Why Are People Into That?!,” we explore the notion of sexual shame and privilege from a personal and political framework. From there the notion of the whorearchy (the hierarchy of sex work) is explored, alongside the recent sex worker resource shut-downs and why it should matter to everyone. Come learn from this amazing being who once sold a dildo to Beyonce. Really. You've probably heard, "what was she wearing?" or "why was she in his bedroom?" as someone talks about rape. Why do we blame the victim instead of the rapist? Even a police officer during a safety class in Toronto said, to remain safe "women should avoid dressing like sluts." Thousands of people protested in front of the Toronto police department, and the SlutWalk movement began. SlutWalk marches have spread throughout the US, Berlin, India, Morocco, Singapore and all over the globe. Join us as we celebrate slut-positivity and consent culture at San Francisco's Slut Walk 2012. We'll talk to Tommi Avicolli Mecca about Stonewall, the Gay Liberation Front in the 70's & connections between transgender violence and slut-shaming. We'll also talk about protecting sex-workers from rape and a new law claiming to protect victims of human sex trafficking. Maxine Doogan, founder of the Erotic Service Provider Legal Educational and Research Project has shocking finding about the horrible fine print in this law, abuse by police and explains how Prop 35 makes sex workers even more vulnerable. You don't have to be a slut to benefit from living in a slut-positive world. Jadelynn Stahl, one of the organizers of SlutWalk SF Bay, deconstructs how social power and sexual power are affected by victim-blaming, slut-shaming, and infantilizing the rapist. How we can speak out & claim our right to safety no matter where we are, what we're doing, or what clothes we're wearing - if we're sluts and even if we're not sluts!?
Maxine Doogan talks to two experts, UC Santa Barbara Professor Grace Chang and graduate student and sex worker rights activist, Holly, about the recent sex trafficking series in the SF Chronicle and examines the validity of the claims made and the U.S. policies around sex trafficking. And Julieth Cifuentes talks to Gertudis Monzon about her new exhibit at the Mission Cultural Center, Las Ninas de Guatemala, about the hundreds of femicide victims in Guatemala who are disappeared not only in life but from the attention of the world.
