In moments of polarization, the wisdom of Tehora Hee — the recognition of inviolable goodness in all people—can be a revolutionary tool. In this episode, R' Jericho talks about seventy faces, checking Biblical assumptions, Tehora he (It is pure), pre-prayer tests, two villains from one of my own spiritual wildernesses, Anne Frank, and a practice for bringing Miriam's living Torah into our own lives.-------------------------------------We are proud to introduce the 3rd podcast in the Judaism Unbound family of podcasts: Survival Guide for a Spiritual Wilderness, hosted by Jericho Vincent. "We are the ancestors of the future." This new podcast offers a spiritual home for listeners seeking to connect Jewish ancestral, feminist wisdom with their own svara: moral intuition. Each episode of this limited series delves into a different story of our ancestor Miriam, illuminating her mystical teachings and offering practical tools for navigating and flourishing in personal or political spiritual wildernesses. We're thrilled to periodically feature episodes of Survival Guide for a Spiritual Wilderness here on Judaism Unbound. But we don't only feature those episodes alone. Lex Rofeberg and Rena Yehuda Newman, two members of Judaism Unbound's team, supplement each episode with some gemara (commentary) as well. We hope that our ideas will help spur you to form your own gemara, and channel your unique teachings -- about this podcast and beyond -- into the world. Subscribe to Survival Guide for a Spiritual Wilderness anywhere that podcasts are found!

We sat down with trans activist April Holcombe to talk about the unrelenting war being waged against trans people. April is a socialist train driver based in Sydney and the co-convener of Community Action for Rainbow Rights. She is the author of many articles for Red Flag newspaper and the Marxist Left Review. April describes what is happening to trans people as "political sadism". She unpacks why right-wingers are so obsessed with policing gender, why socialists say gender is socially constructed, and how we can best fight back against these heinous attacks. Perversions of the Market: Sadism, Masochism, and the Culture of Capitalism (SUNY Press, 2024) argues that capitalism fosters sadism and masochism--not as individual psychological proclivities but as widespread institutionalized patterns of behavior. The book is divided into two parts: one historical and the other theoretical. In the first, Eugene W. Holland shows how, as capital becomes global in scale and drives production and consumption farther and farther apart, it perverts otherwise free markets, transforming sadism and masochism into borderline conditions and various supremacisms. The second part then turns to Deleuze and Guattari's 'schizoanalysis,' explaining how it helpfully embeds Freud's analysis of the family and Lacan's analysis of language within an analysis of the capitalist market and its psycho-dynamics. Drawing on literature and film throughout to illuminate the discontents of modern culture, Holland maintains that the sadistic relations of production and masochistic relations of consumption must be eliminated to prevent capitalism from destroying life as we know it. On the Popular Front Patreon we have a separate show called Skeleton Key. It's a monthly report on contemporary far-right militancy all over the world. To listen to that show you have to join the BONUS tier on the Patreon. It's paywalled and it will stay paywalled. People paying for extra content like this is how we keep going. There have been two particularly brutal episodes of Skeleton Key that are about the militant sadism of 764 and Maniac Murder Cult (MKY). These are two groups that are inspired by far-right violence and left hand path occultism, but have created something entirely more awful. I refer to their ideology as “ultra sadism”. To put it plainly, they're main goals are to cause untold havoc across the world, simply because their mad at it. Both groups, 764 and MKY, are know for extreme child abuse, pedophilia, random killings, and the torture of animals. These groups are as despicable as it gets. They've literally caused children to mutilate themselves, something 764 and MKY consider a victory. As horrible as this is, a way to combat such groups is to air out their actions and identify who's behind it all. When we published episodes of Skeleton Key investigating these groups, many people who paid for the content asked that we publish them for free on the public podcast channel. This is because the resources and information spoken about in the episodes can help parents and carers to identify if their children are being groomed or drawn into these militant sadist networks. So, here are both the episodes, back to back, for free. These episodes document the horrors of 764 and MKY. This is Hell on Earth: The Ultra Sadism Report.

Zman Yisrael editor Biranit Goren joins host Amanda Borschel-Dan for today's episode. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu flew to Washington, DC, yesterday and is set to meet with US President Donald Trump tomorrow. In the meantime, he will meet and potentially start up talks about the second phase of the hostage release deal with US Mideast envoy Steve Witkoff. Who is Witkoff and is he the key to Trump's idea of depopulating the Gaza Strip? We discuss what we're learning about the treatment meted out to the three men freed on Saturday: Yarden Bibas, Ofer Calderon and Keith Siegel. In an interview that aired on Israel’s Uvda investigative program on Tuesday evening, released hostage Amir Soussana said she owes one of the recently released female surveillance soldiers, Liri Albag her life. Goren recounts portions of Soussana's chilling interview. For news updates, please check out The Times of Israel’s ongoing live blog. Warning: Please Be Advised - 18+ Adult Content Lyn welcomes alternative pleasure coach and mentor CJ to explore the intriguing world of BDSM and DS relationships. They discuss common misconceptions, such as:- BDSM and DS activities do not necessarily involve the giving or receiving of pain and can actually be exciting, pleasurable, playful and fun. CJ shares her personal journey into the realm of power exchange, highlighting the importance of communication, consent, and aftercare in fostering intimacy and connection. KEY TAKEAWAYS Definitions of BDSM and DS: BDSM stands for Bondage, Discipline, Sadism, and Masochism, while DS refers to Dominance and Submission. These concepts encompass a variety of relationship styles and power exchange dynamics. BDSM does not inherently involve pain. Participants can explore different aspects of BDSM and choose what they enjoy, allowing for a personalised experience that may or may not include pain. Clear communication and explicit consent are fundamental in BDSM relationships. Negotiating experiences and understanding each other's boundaries can enhance intimacy and trust. Aftercare is crucial following intense experiences in BDSM, as it helps individuals transition back to everyday life. This practice can also be beneficial in non-BDSM relationships, emphasising the need for emotional check-ins after intimate encounters. BEST MOMENTS "There is a very often, including myself, and in the media, a representation of BDSM as one thing... that involves pain. But you can cherry pick things you enjoy and say no to others." "When you surrender to someone, if trust is broken, even in minute ways, it's damaging... this container can really kind of enlighten a person." "It's possible to be one thing in your everyday life, and another in your pleasure experience. It's something fun that you can play with." "We all have something a little bit kinky that we enjoy... let's try to be open, but also have boundaries around people shaming us for things." Sadism and masochism (abbreviated as S&M) are generally frowned on in polite society as perverse acts of sexual gratification.
What if the very things you think you can't control are exactly where your power lies? On this episode of Medicated Minutes, we challenge you to rethink the inevitability of life's events and the importance of personal responsibility, all wrapped in Emerson Dameron's signature humor and wit. We kick off with a passionate monologue that tackles these existential themes head-on, urging you to embrace life's chaos rather than resist it. From the ironies of trying to stop the unstoppable to finding freedom in the mundane, we present a philosophy that turns conventional wisdom on its head. Can you love yourself without succumbing to the trap of fame? We then pivot to a deep-dive into the paradoxical dance between self-love and sadism, exploring how public attention can wreak havoc on mental health. By drawing parallels with historical figures and examining consensual sadistic practices, we illustrate the necessity of rigorous self-discipline and mutual respect for personal growth. This segment is a hard-hitting look at how embracing one's flaws and leveraging past pain can pave the way for true healing and transformation. Finally, we explore the transformative power of shedding one's ego and embracing observational awareness. Through the poignant story of Scarlet Obscura, a Nova Scotian artist seeking meaning in Los Angeles, we emphasize the importance of creativity and curiosity in understanding both ourselves and others. This narrative serves as a testament to the power of art and self-expression amidst life's unpredictability. Tune in to discover how you can harness creativity, humor, and empathy to navigate the chaos of existence and find deeper meaning in everyday life.Support the showSupport the show directly, or get exclusive goodies via Bandcamp.

This one is a doozy! John Edward Robinson may be the most intelligent serial killer I've ever come across. This guy fooled so, so many people with over 40 years of brazen crimes. Doctors, psychiatrists, detectives, and so, so many victims. In addition to being a serial killer, this BDSM-obsessed dirtbag, scammed hundreds if not thousands of people for four decades. Gigi Raven Wilbur is an American bisexual rights activist and writer. They have a bachelor's degree in philosophy and a master's degree in social work. I suspect 50 Shades of Grey has contributed to confusion around what BDSM entails and how it can be used to enhance one's intimate life. I recall upon reading it and all the publicity that ensued upon its publication that there was outrage from those within the BDSM community that their lifestyle choice should be portrayed so inaccurately. Even my kids who knew I dabbled in this world said at the time, “You should go on TV and tell them it's not like this!” The fact is that BDSM (Bondage and Discipline, Dominance and Submission, Sadism and Masochism) has many benefits as Gigi and I discuss during this podcast. It can enhance one's intimate relationships by enabling conversations that touch on consent, power dynamics, pain and sometimes how this may relate to earlier trauma. It can, without any penetration being involved, transport its participants to altered states of consciousness, sometimes called sub-space. And it can be playful, imaginative and fun. In my experience, people I've met in the lifestyle are some of the most open and considerate people I know, for whom consent is paramount and pleasure is key.Gigi is also deeply involved with the BDSM world. Today, she advocates for the healing, cathartic, and spiritual power of BDSM as founder and Sacred Harlot of Aphrodite's Temple. This modern-day sex temple provides sex-positive education and a sex-positive sacred play space for adults. Gigi's book is called The Dominant's Handbook: an Intimate Guide to BDSM Play. Part 1: The most tribal of tribes, the Sentinelese of North Sentinel IslandWe don't know much about them. We don't know what they call themselves, what they think the world or universe is like, what they believe about the rest of humanity. We don't know how they are organized, what they worship, how they see right and wrong. What we do know is that the North Sentinelese are the most tribal of tribes -- hostile to outsiders, uninterested in changing or developing along 'Western' lines, and unwilling to extend any moral status to vistors. In 2018 a young American Christian missionary, John Allen Chau, was killed by these people. Was it murder of an innocent or defense against an invader? Sadism or self-preservation? To understand what happened, we will first look into the history of interactions between the people of North Sentinel Island and outsiders, contacts that went occasionally acceptably, but usually very badly, for one party ot the other.

Today's episode is inspired by several pets who acted surprised to hear that Mistress Olivia likes pain play and rough kink. It starts with this quote from one submissive:“You are just such a nice person. And you have a sweet natural demeanor. Even though you can turn into a firm Domme in the blink of an eye, I didn't think pain play was a fun thing for you.”Both ladies talk about being a Femdom and a sensual sadist. You'll hear answers to these questions from another treasured pet and listener who wants to hear more about sadism and masochism. Michael asks:How common is it for a sensual dom to also have a little bit of a sadistic streak?andIs it typical for this to be a frequent activity in a loving and nurturing relationship? Topics include:Sharing experiences with the S/m part of BDSMVarious expectation of a MistressHow do you know you're correct about your assumptions of her, who she is and what she likes? How can you tell if a sensual Femdom also enjoys rough kink? How does consent work with risk aware BDSM and kink? This is a peek behind the scenes as each Femdom talks about BDSM scenes gone awry when a sub doesn't obey, how each lady feels when that happens and how it changes her feelings towards the bratty sub. By the end of the episode you'll know that in scene domination is different from the podcast and both ladies love delivering an intense kink session that includes pain play.Mistress Olivia's blog: https://www.experiencedmistress.com/Mistress Erika's blog: https://intelligentphonefantasy.com/

In this episode, in recognition of this being episode 666, we go a bit dark and discuss the concept of normal marital sadism (a term coined by Dr David Schnarch), which refers to the intentional infliction of pain, cruelty, and hurt within a marriage. We explore various examples of normal marital sadism, such as poking fun at and embarrassing a spouse, lying to inflict pain, restricting the autonomy of your spouse, and manipulating them to establish compliance or gain dominance. Our conversation emphasizes the importance of recognizing our own capacity for cruelty and the need to address it in order to maintain a healthy and fulfilling marriage. Takeaways Normal marital sadism refers to the intentional infliction of pain, cruelty, and hurt within a marriage. Examples of normal marital sadism include humiliating and demeaning others, lying to inflict pain, restricting the autonomy of others, and manipulating others to establish compliance or gain dominance. It is important to recognize our own capacity for cruelty and address it in order to maintain a healthy and fulfilling marriage. Denying the existence of normal marital sadism can lead to its prevalence and negative consequences in a relationship. On the Xtended Version ... What do we do about normal marital sadism? How do I address it? Get rid of it? Or, at the very least limit it's presence in my marriage? Enjoy the show! Sponsors ... AG1: Take ownership of your health this year with AG1. I find this topic personally intriguing, as it's a mindset that I struggle to fully comprehend. With an anthropological approach, we aim to explore this subject without constantly passing moral judgment. Sadism, the pleasure derived from causing pain to others, is contrasted with consensual acts of physical pain or humiliation for sexual gratification known as BDSM. I believe that as long as these behaviors are consensual and don't result in irreversible harm, they may not be a moral concern. Furthermore, I argue that many dysfunctions in society may have a sexual element, such as the behavior of a stereotypical Karen or couples engaging in hostile fights. Additionally, the power dynamics and domination present in public rituals or workplace hierarchies can harbor sadistic components. While I personally feel perplexed by sadism, I'm interested in exploring it without constantly condemning it.Chapters0:00:00 Introduction to the Fascinating Topic of Sadism0:03:50 Society's Dysfunctions and the Relationship to Sadistic Tendencies0:07:05 The Suspension of Disbelief and Sadistic Satisfaction in Fictional Violence0:07:29 The Complexity of Sadism and Paraphilias0:12:48 Paraphilias and the Distinction from Healthy Sexuality0:18:16 Hypermasculinity and the Capacity to Avoid Empathy0:21:05 Women's Expectations of Selective Empathy in Men0:28:12 The dynamics of power and masochism in relationships.0:32:10 The nature of women's thrill in being desired.0:35:50 The importance of bravery in pursuing attractive partners.0:38:42 The Pitfalls of Settling for Less0:47:22 Freud's Observations on Sadism and Masochism0:49:06 The Purpose of Pleasure: Selfishness or Pair Bonding?0:54:15 Gifts and Abilities: Serving Self or World?0:56:51 The Dehumanization of Excellence and Competition1:00:03 Domination and Submission: The Absence of Reason and Negotiation

On the evening of May 6th, 2013, in the Tremont neighborhood of Cleveland, Ohio, three enduring mysteries were shockingly solved. Three missing Cleveland women, Michelle Knight, Amanda Berry, and Gina DeJesus - all long presumed dead - were found to have been held captive by a madman named Ariel Castro for roughly a decade. It is insane what they had endured, and it is so inspiring how all three women have chosen not to let their torture and captivity define them. Dr Jordan B Peterson and Dr. Del Paulhus delve deep into the Dark Tetrad: Machiavellianism, Narcissism, Psychopathy, and the newly added Sadism. From these four traits, researchers can quantify much of the darkness of humanity, and begin to study it in a way that yields numerical results, and the potential to make substantial predictions. Dr. Delroy Paulhus is a personality researcher whose work in dark personality traits, via a variety of psychometric methods, has yielded measures of the Dark Tetrad. His work has also validated measures of socially desirable responding, perceived control, free will and determinism, and over-claiming. His work has been published in over 150 articles and books, and his current citation count exceeds 43,000.
