A new narrative surfaced about what could have caused the deadly Oakland warehouse fire in 2016 that killed 36 people. Defense attorneys have introduced the possibility that the fire was caused by arson. As testimony begins this week the trial is reopening old wounds for families and friends of the victims, as well as a community forever changed by the fire. As You Like It's podcast series, and the interviews which coincide, are designed to celebrate the talent and artistry of the multifaceted American electronic music underground. This podcast is different: here, we honor and celebrate the memory and life of our beloved friend and family member, Johnny Igaz (aka Nackt), who was lost to us in the Oakland Ghost Ship fire on December 2.

In the wake of the tragic Ghost Ship fire in Oakland, The Hollywood Improv will host a night of comedy and music on December 23 to raise funds for the impacted community. Scott Hove is an artist whose primary medium is perspective. He has manipulated his art viewers psychologically and literally for decades, and his work is more poignant than ever. Recorded live on Dec 3, 2016, one night after the Oakland Ghost Ship fire. Planning the set that day, I found the cognitive dissonance difficult to navigate. How to know what to play when we were all reeling and feeling such loss? How to get in the mindset of being fun? But through the course of the hour of this set, the mood seemed to shift for everyone. It was one of the most magical experiences I've had as a DJ. To gift music and watch as we collectively moved through our emotions and bonded on and off the dance floor. Somber expressions turned to smiles, love, and appreciation for each other, those lost, and who have lost. Music and community is so powerful. Cherish it, celebrate it, and feed it. 01.
