It all started in the Netherlands when the founding father, Joe Overgaag, passed down his legacy to his son, Toine Overgaag and brought Westerlay Orchids to Carpinteria, California. Now the original Westerlay Rose Farm has grown to 800,000 square feet on several coastal Santa Barbara properties growing over 4 million orchids a year, as sold into Trader Joes and Albertsons. Hear the fascinating inside story on Westerlay through the lens of Toine.

On this week's episode I discuss my rough week of mentally spiraling over things I can't control and how I finally pulled my brain out of the muck.I also talk about the delicious asian noodles I made and how I went pumpkin crazy at Trader Joes, with mixed results. Finally I do a review of "Weight Wednesday" from Jenny Hutt and the awesome guests she had on, including Kim Shapira, celebrity personal trainer Jordan Syatt and my new favorite follow on Instagram, Dr_Idz.Jordan goes on to talk about not eating like an asshole and if you do eat like an asshole, don't treat yourself like an asshole, lol. Jordan is all about simplifying weight loss and hates all the diet-fads that simply don't work for people.Dr. Idz is very entertaining MD from the UK, who developed a huge following on social media by de-bunking stupid people on the internet who perpetuate scientifically false information related to diet and weight loss. I love his IG page, do yourself a favor and follow him @Dr_Idz and while you're at it, also follow me @thedietobsessedpodcast If these topics interest you, you will love this episode! The business community's efforts to enact a federal law on data privacy instead of a patchwork of state laws appears to be running out of steam. And ironically, we may have the leading data privacy state, California, to blame for the loss. We are joined once again by Brennan Duckett, Director of Technology and Innovation Policy at the National Restaurant Association, to give us the latest and greatest. And a judge pumped the brakes on Gov. DeSantis' signature, “Stop Woke Act” which would significantly affect employers' ability to offer DEI and other trainings. We'll discuss what this could mean for employers. And it was a very busy week on the union organizing front with big news out of Starbucks, Amazon, Trader Joes and others. We'll get our arms around the week that was. We'll discuss those issues and wrap it up with the legislative scorecard.

We thought we'd revisit the topic, sharing these two wines we have never had before while also letting you know of some “honorable mentions” or great finds we've made over the last year.About UsBuy us a Mimosa!Wines To Find Podcast, Finalist in the 12th Annual TASTE AWARDS in four categories. -Best Drink or Beverage Program-Best New Series-Best Single Topic Series-Best Food or Drink PodcastWe have been listed in the Top 50 wine podcasts! https://blog.feedspot.com/wine_podcasts/==============Music from https://filmmusic.io "Night In Venice" by Kevin MacLeod (https://incompetech.com) License: CC BY (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/)

Dear sweet listeners, we know, deep down, you didn't believe we would actually follow through with this and record another episode, did ya now? BUT HERE WE FUCKIN ARE! Per usual, we get a little sloppy, laugh a lot, max out our mic volume and thoroughly enjoy ourselves. Welcome in to episode 94, where the ladies are really hitting their stride, reliving some glorious memories and drinking as much as we can. The gals this week share their roses and thorns over the past few weeks (kids, travel, nightmare periods and awful, awful people). News this week gets the girls wondering how much they would need to be paid to give up their seats on an oversold flight? Shocker, it's not much. Advice this week has the ladies talking about money in relationships. If you give your partner a loan when you are together, how do you get that money back when you break up? Survey says, you might need to crack some skulls (JKJKJK, but not). Ask Us Anything this week is VEGAS themed. The ladies love them some Vegas time and will gladly share their favorite memories from sin city. Shit the ladies like this week includes permanent jewelry (Claire is hopefully having a pop up at Happy Hour) and Trader Joes cheap ass face masks! Lastly, this weeks hater is brought to you by a bitch ass Tim Allen... sit down, son. Bonne Fete Nationale! To those of us celebrating outside of France, we may be celebrating France's national holiday with an exclamation of Happy Bastille Day, but within the borders of France, as I have been reminded more than a few times, it is Bonne Fete Nationale or Le Quatorze Juillet! Whatever you prefer to utter, it is a day of celebrations for Francophiles, and while TSLL entire premise when it comes to living simply luxuriously draws much inspiration from the French way of life, today I have lined up 24 ideas for you to celebrate July 14th in your own way. The above vineyards in Provence take me back to my trip in 2018, and oh, how I long to return. Soon, I reassure myself, soon. But whether we have the opportunity to stand on the terra firma of France at the moment or pay homage from afar, we can absolutely partake in the annual celebration. I am looking forward to even more deeply celebrating today's events in the simple activities that fill my day: a sipping of French thé in the morning, watching the 17th stage of Le Tour de France, making herbed gougeres for apéro time in the evening and bringing them with me to gather with a dear friend who grew up in Belgium at her home here in Bend to dine in celebration of today being Le Quatorze Juillet. Parfait! Now to the list with many links for further exploration on many of the items shared. 1.Watch Le Tour de France Vicariously travel throughout the countryside of France for three weeks as the annual cycling event takes place. Watch on Peacock (ad-free, $9.99/mo or with ads, $4.99/mo) if you live in the states, and for all other international viewers, read this detailed post on VeloNews for exactly where to stream for your country. Peacock also offers the option to watch the international broadcast rather than NBC's broadcast which I flip back and forth from every other day from time to time. 2. Plan and then shop for a favorite French meal (check out TSLL's many French-inspired recipes here) 3. Don't forget the cheese and salad course (before dessert and after the main entrée) 4. Play a game (or two) of pétanque (this game was being played in Paris just outside of the window of Hôtel Particulier Montmartre near Sacre Couer) 5. Gather with fellow Francophiles for a French meal beginning with apéro time 6. Pack a picnic and go somewhere amongst Mother Nature (don't forget to pack the wine and bistro wine glasses - sturdy, but lovely) from La Rochère - the classic bistrot glass (out of stock at the moment). Shop all of La Rochère's glasses here. Shop the brand on Wayfair here. 7. Visit a local farmers' market, and be sure to bring your market tote All You Need to Know About the Markets in Provence Find Your Perfect Provençal (or simply French) Market Tote 8. Begin the day with a fresh baguette picked up at your local bakery 9. Une croissant s'il vous plait!, pair with cafe au lait or hot cup of thé ~explore how to make your own croissants here in episode #6, Season 2 of The Simply Luxurious Kitchen cooking show. 10. Select a bottle of wine from your favorite French region or the next region of France you hope to visit as inspiration to bring your next trip to fruition ~explore Châteauneuf du Pape wines (I pick mine up at both Trader Joes - they carry one varietal at a great price for this vineyard, as well as my local wine shop for more varietals and vintages) 11. Seek out French thé and sip a hot cup in the morning to begin the day - pair with your croissant perhaps? :) 12. Cook a classic soufflé au fromage avec fresh herbs 13. Organize a cheese and wine gathering 14. Watch a French cozy mystery series ~explore the latest This & That weekly post which includes additional Francophile Finds, including more French television shows I recommend. 15. Look around your home and discover how you can add a touch of France to your sanctuary, or yet another touch :) 16. Shop and purchase French lingerie to update your lingerie capsule wardrobe ~Chantelle is one of the French brands I highly recommend for high quality everyday lingerie (and they are currently in the middle of their annual summer sale). As shared on this podcast episode Aubade is a quality French lingerie brand I also shop. 17. Make a Clafoutis Aux Cerises with the cherries just now ready to harvest! 18. Conclude the evening by watching a favorite French film 19. Listen to TSLL's Escape to France playlist - over an hour of French music to enjoy 20. Prefer lyric-free music? Listen to TSLL's French Jazz Cafe playlist 21. Make a simple French crêpe for dessert - Lemon and Brown Butter Sweet Crêpe 22. Speaking of crêpes, make a Buckwheat crêpe (or galette) with prosciutto, gruyére and egg 23. Read a French book to explore further the French culture ~Explore all of TSLL's Francophile Finds for books here. 24. Add a French cookbook to your kitchen library - add one each year to further inspire your culinary journey into French cooking ~Explore all of TSLL's recommended cookbooks here. 10 Favorite French Cookbooks for Your Kitchen Library 25. When Ibraheem Basir launched A Dozen Cousins in 2018, retail buyers questioned the marketability of the brand's first products, a line of premium-positioned cooked beans. Four years later, those buyers are asking a different question: “How do we keep up with consumer demand?” A former marketing executive with General Mills, Basir founded A Dozen Cousins to increase accessibility of better-for-you food within Black and Latino communities via healthy ingredients, authentic seasonings and convenient preparation. Available in varieties such as Mexican Cowboy Pinto Beans and Trini Chickpea Curry, the beans are packaged in microwavable pouches that can be heated in 60 seconds. As A Dozen Cousins expanded distribution, the brand found traction with a broad variety of consumers seeking a quick, flavorful meal or side dish. The company has since added two complementary product lines – bone-broth cooked rice and seasoning sauces for rice and meat dishes – and widened its presence in stores across retail channels, including Whole Foods, Walmart, Trader Joes, Kroger and REI. In an interview featured in this episode, Basir spoke about how the brand's initial focus has evolved, working with co-manufacturing partners to ensure quality standards, why sampling was critical to its development and why keeping a foot in the familiar is a key tenet of its innovation strategy. He also explained why A Dozen Cousins is relatively quiet about raising capital and shared his take on improved opportunities and continuing challenges for BIPOC food entrepreneurs. Show notes: 0:42: Interview: Ibraheem Basir, Founder & CEO, A Dozen Cousins – Basir spoke with Taste Radio editor Ray Latif at NOSH Live Summer 2022 where they discussed their shared experience growing up in large families, alternate names for A Dozen Cousins and how the brand addresses “two different levels” of consumer needs. Basir also spoke about how he prepared for a national launch at Whole Foods while the brand was still in its infancy, the impact of his experience as an employee at a large food conglomerate, what social media taught the company about the unexpected ways consumers used the beans and what moved the needle for retail buyers that were initially skeptical about the brand. Later, he explained why the launch of A Dozen Cousins' rice was about creating something “additive” to the category, why he wants the brand to be “in the middle of the spectrum” when it comes to innovation, the reason the company isn't vocal about funding and why he points to the lack of “insider knowledge” as a hurdle for BIPOC founders.
