What an amazing experience Love Burn 2023 was. A highlight was definitely getting to play at The Freakeasy's Kitty Kat Island on Saturday night to an amazing crowd and in front of…an articulated giant cat that shoots lasers! LAZER CAT. Dan @djschmultz McHugh was part of our @fantastic-voyage-music crew. As I came into the cohort late, I only got to know him briefly before he was taken away from us by cancer. He inspired us with his creativity, talent, positivity, silliness, and courage. Many producers got over our fear of using our own voices in our tracks because of him. This just released compilation features a slew of amazing work across genres that speak to how he inspired us in different ways. For my track, "Dup", it was drawing on the silliness. I was in a creative rut when I decided I had had enough of our dog Appa's squeaky pig sounds. So I took it, sampled it, and made it a central piece of this track. I had a stupid grin the entire time I was making the track. I think it's fitting that this also marks my first release on Spotify and Beatport. Go check out the whole compilation. The fifth annual Second Halloween (known to some poor saps as Valentine's Day), the newly invented holiday from the legendary Brass Tax crew is a real delight. Why only have one time a year to dress up. And why celebrate a hallmark holiday when instead you can dress up and be merry with friends? I had the pleasure of playing at the Decadent Oasis fundraiser at the Bayview Boat Club on a beautiful San Francisco October eve. The sun was setting as we danced by the water facing the bay but even more spectacular was the full moon that rose during the set. A beautiful day and a beautiful group of talent and dancers. I had the honour of opening the party at this year's Friends 'n' Family campout. For a long time now, I've collected some music that is quite different from my usual peak breaks sound. I've had a large collection of progressive and deep house I've wanted to play at sunrise and was given this opportunity by the fine folks at Decadent Oasis this year at Burning Man. As the light shone over the "palm trees" and the sun started to shine on everyone's faces, a couple dozen skydivers with tails started to descend from the sky. A perfect, magical, playa moment.

2018 is my 9th consecutive outing to Burning Man. Consistently one of my favourite places to be and to play are under the LED palm trees of Decadent Oasis. This year, they had the splendid location of Esplanade and 3:30. I played two very different sets there. This was at their annual "Welcome Home" party on Monday night—a not-so-gentle hug for everyone starting off the week. This year's magical weekend of Frolic included some experimentation with the music lineup including an extended Friday night lineup. Going with the flow of experimentation, and having just put together a set a few months ago that was mostly Psytrance, I went with something quite different from breaks. Friends 'n' Family is so hard to describe. It's a party but it's also a community. It's light and also sound. It's art and also science. It's whimsy and also deep connection. Recorded live on Dec 3, 2016, one night after the Oakland Ghost Ship fire. Planning the set that day, I found the cognitive dissonance difficult to navigate. How to know what to play when we were all reeling and feeling such loss? How to get in the mindset of being fun? But through the course of the hour of this set, the mood seemed to shift for everyone. It was one of the most magical experiences I've had as a DJ. To gift music and watch as we collectively moved through our emotions and bonded on and off the dance floor. Somber expressions turned to smiles, love, and appreciation for each other, those lost, and who have lost. Music and community is so powerful. Cherish it, celebrate it, and feed it. 01. There are few more challenging environments to DJ in than an open air moving vehicle in a whiteout dust storm. But there are also few environments as fun to dance and jam in. I had the pleasure of playing to the always beautiful sunsets on Koh Lanta, an island in Thailand at the Pangea Beach Bar. This was a great opportunity to put together a set of a lot of the chiller tracks I've been collecting over the last year or so. This 2h30m set is a journey with the sun, starting off chill and, after the sun sets and the lights come on, a little bit more of a dance vibe with many throwbacks. Hosted at the magnificent Chabot Space and Science Center, “Portal” was the most ambitious Rhythm Society All Night Dance Celebration (ANDC) to date. Playing sunrise and closing on the main room, I decided to take everyone on a journey as we greeted Spring. Opening with @jpodtbc's soon-to-be-released amazing remix of Imogen Heap's Hide & Seek, I wanted to signify, "this is going to be something completely different." The set continues with some banging breaks, and starts its landing with an amazing 13 artist mashup by @robinskouteris, finally arriving on the beautiful @flightfacilities' Claire de Lune to bring in the sun. At 5am, it's always a challenge to know how the crowd is going to be but Rhythm Society takes dancing seriously and everyone was full of energy and love and kept the dance floor packed to the very end.
