Comic, writer and director Emily Maya Mills (By a Thread) joins to discuss Martin Scorsese's THE KING OF COMEDY starring Robert De Niro, Jerry Lewis, and Sandra Bernhard. This disquieting dark comedy follows wannabe comedian Rupert Pupkin and his obsessive drive to win the attention of his hero, a late night talk show host named Jerry Langford. Upon release in 1982, THE KING OF COMEDY's unlikable characters and claustrophobic style baffled critics and tanked at the box office. Today, it is considered one of Scorsese's less appreciated masterpieces. In this episode, we delve into this cringe-inducing classic, along with seriously in-depth tangents into directing technique, dishwashing, Napoleon Dynamite, '70s paranoid thrillers, American Psycho, Fargo, freewheeling '70s drug abuse and much more.

This week I had the pleasure of talking with comedic content creator, Emily Maya Mills. Before shifting her focus to longer-format storytelling, she was named a “Funny Female to Follow on Twitter” by the Huffington Post and recorded a standup album, By a Thread, on ASpecialThing Records. As an actor, she's appeared on Orange is the New Black, Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Key & Peele and Parks and Recreation. While earning her MFA at USC's School of Cinematic Arts, Emily placed her first three films in festivals and won the opportunity to direct the university-funded film, Boo Hag or Shadow Man (May 2021). Emily is dedicated to tackling difficult stories with humor and cinematic depth, and she and I talk all about how her roots in comedy help her achieve this goal. Her films are AMAZING and I have no doubt in my mind that Emily Maya Mills is going to be a household name as a writer and director in the very near future. So please, sit back, relax, and enjoy my inspiring conversation with Emily Maya Mills. For more on Emily: https://www.emilymayamills.com/ @emilymayamills on Instagram

Welcome to another episode of "The Border Realm Podcast." Join hosts Mike Costantini, Emily Maya Mills and Jeff Sloniker for a special Halloween episode where they discuss The Mothman legend and sightings around the globe. Stick around as always for Ed, Kevin and Mike's drunkin' leftover comments. On a side note, we apologize for the lack of episodes in the month of October. We suffered a computer crash and we lost a few episodes. The Fort Podcast is now back in full force and you can look forward to many more great episodes, guests, and radio sketches. Happy Halloween to you all! Please celebrate Halloween "Fort Style" which involves horror movies and booze. But celebrate responsibly or else Kevin and Ed can get in a lot of trouble.
