Her abhorrent fiance Lyle (Sandman from Spider-Man 3) attempts to get her to return home, but Ursula continues her trek in the wilderness, where she encounters the “white ape” George - an oddly clumsy, but athletic and sincere man - raised by the denizens of the jungle, who saves her from a lion. They bond in George’s treehouse after the rescue. When Ursula’s guides and Lyle encounter the pair, through a mixup involving a gun-shaped lighter, Lyle accidentally shoots and injures George. Ursula immediately takes George home to the states to care for his injuries, and there is a huge culture clash when George tries to adapt to his current surroundings. Despite being in love with Ursula, George is persuaded by Ursula’s horrible mother to go back to the jungle, and Ursula pursues to tell him she loves him.In the meantime, Lyle has somehow gained control of a radical organization and attempts to come between the two and force Ursula to marry him after all, but is ultimately foiled and we close on a scene of George and Ursula together in the jungle with their clumsy (like his father) son. Film Trivia –All of the gorillas living with George were Jim Henson puppeteers in specialized suitsBrendan Fraser’s personal trainer brought a suit against him for not crediting him...and lost. When George is interacting with the horses at Ursula's parents' party, the woman who wishes she could find a man like him is Brendan Fraser's girlfriend and future wife, Afton Smith. It was after seeing this film that director Stephen Sommers considered Brendan Fraser for the role of Rick O'Connell in 'The Mummy' (1999)Segment: News/Announcements “The Newsies Banner”Onward is premiering this week! I... I may not be an explorer, or, or an adventurer, or a treasure-seeker, or a gunfighter, Mr. O'Connell, but I am proud of what I am! I….. am the girl who really really loves The Mummy.Wholly, completely, absolutely despite its flaws, I love it. I can watch it every damn day. It's the perfect mix of action, adventure, romance, comedy and horror, with peak Brendan Fraser and perfect Rachel Weisz. Hollywood just doesn't make movies like this anymore.Like Evie Carnaghan, I need a Rick O'Connell to help me decipher the hieroglyphs of this wonderful slice of pulp cinema, and who better that literally one of the nicest guys in podcasting?!Despite the curse on this episode ("The curse, beware of the curse!"), I'm finally joined by Jason from WooLongTalks, on our third attempt, to gush over this movie. We avoid the Hom Dai, and delve into the tombs of Hamunaptra to find a nice gooey Mummy; its history involving the likes of legendary horror directors like Clive Barker and Wes Craven, but the main reason The Mummy exists at all? A little pig called Babe. Now listen, this movie is twenty years old this year and whilst it's aged reasonably well, we know it's not perfect. We chat a little about some of the problematic aspects of the movie and the quite gaping plot holes, but honestly, I still love it.Now this is the only Dark Universe we could ever need! Death is only the beginning.I would love to hear your thoughts on The Mummy! Instilling a lifelong fear of scarab beetles in a generation of moviegoers, The Mummy (1999) celebrates its 20th anniversary on May 7th, and we commemorate the infectiously fun remake of the 1932 Universal Monster movie on this episode of Daily Dead's official podcast! Listen as Corpse Club co-hosts Tamika Jones, Derek Anderson, and Jonathan James take a deep dive into the action, adventure, and horror of 1999's The Mummy, including writer/director Stephen Sommers' Indiana Jones-esque vision for the remake, the film's effective blend of CGI and practical effects, and the movie's mix of slapstick comedy and bone-chilling (and life-sucking) horror. The co-hosts also discuss the chemistry of the film's eclectic cast, from Brendan Fraser's role as the resourceful Rick O'Connell to Rachel Weisz as the resilient Evelyn Carnahan and Arnold Vosloo's haunting portrayal of Imhotep. Taking a look at the expansion of The Mummy franchise, the Corpse Club co-hosts talk about the return of familiar faces and the introduction of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as The Scorpion King in The Mummy Returns, as well as the new villain that the O'Connell family faces in The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. Before riding into the Saharan sunset, the co-hosts also discuss 2017's The Mummy reboot and where they'd like to see the franchise go in the future. So, after you make sure you don't have one of those hungry scarab beetles crawling under your skin, kick back, relax, and enjoy a new episode of Corpse Club!

Some of the most popular entertainment brands in the world are sports teams. With IP being king in theme parks these days, why don't we see more parks developing sports-themed attractions? I asked that question to the experts who have designed two of the leading examples of sports attractions in the world today - the team at JRA. JRA worked on creative design for Ferrari World in Abu Dhabi and the upcoming Steelers Country land at Kennywood, which will feature the record-setting nine-inversion Steel Curtain roller coaster. Joining me for the conversation are Randy Smith, the project director for Ferrari World, Rick O'Connell, the design director for Steelers Country and Shawn McCoy, the Vice President at JRA. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/themeparkinsider/support

#28: #NotMyMummy: Fraser Rules, Cruise Drools

The title just about says it all on this one. Hashtag "Not My Mummy" (#NotMyMummy) began in the wake of the trailer for the new The Mummy, starring one Thomas "Tom" Cruise of Scientology, couch-jumping fame. Needless to say, some fans were not too pleased. But in truth, their anger had much less to do with any personal qualms with Mr. Cruise, and far more to do with the tragic fact that the great Brendan Fraser will not be returning in this upcoming film. Imhotep is mad that Fraser won't be returning Had any of us truly recognized what impact Fraser had had on our lives? Or was it not until the moment that we saw the guy from Vanilla Sky in the trailer for a Mummy film that we realized just how impactful Fraser has been? Say all you want about his Golden Globes clap (video below) - the guy can kick some major butt. Rick O'Connell will be greatly missed in this new film, and quite likely, your hosts at General Snobbery, amidst their laughter at this inevitably terrible new Mummy, will quite likely feel surges of nostalgia at the distant memory of Fraser taking on a dozen reanimated corpses with a sword. We greatly miss Fraser, and we hope that #NotMyMummy will help bring him back. Regardless, we dedicate this episode to him, where, by laughing time and time again at the hilarious scream made by Cruise in the new trailer (video below), we are truly yearning for the simpler times when we could watch Fraser shoot guns at Imhotep's huge mouth. As franchise after franchise sucks Hollywood dry of its once-great energy, dumbing film after film down to silly tropes and rushed release dates, we can at least tip our top hats to a man of the greatest order, who once radiated charisma of a special blend, charisma time has proven to be of the eternal kind. Brendan Fraser, this snob's for you.
