We chat about director Stephen Sommers' go-for-broke approach, the Rock's infamous Scorpion King debut, and whether lightning can strike twice for this adventure-horror follow-up. It's a lively, affectionate commentary on a movie that's equal parts spectacle, nostalgia, and beautiful chaos!Listen ad-free at Patreon: https://patreon.com/MovieFilmPodcast
For this episode, Wes and Ryan return back to the late 90's for a quick, but effective review of ‘U-TURN'. The film has an incredibly stacked cast and a neo- noire story that sadly has been unappreciated for years. We also chat about a ton of up coming projects, including: ‘EVIL DEAD', ‘GODZILLA', ‘TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE', ‘THE EXORCIST' and much more. Mixed and edited by: Wesley Swanson. Bo forever.
Over the last century, mummy movies have taken many different forms. But “Lee Cronin's The Mummy” pushes this classic tale into full-on body horror territory. Tune in as we break down this modern reimagining — from the most explicitly gory scenes, to the moments that gave us serious “The Exorcist” vibes, and how it channels the same brutal style Cronin brought to “Evil Dead Rise.”

Today we are talking about the action-packed, supernatural spectacle of The Mummy Returns (2001). Join Alec & Erik as we revisit Rick O'Connell, Evelyn, and their son Alex on a globe-trotting adventure filled with spooky ancient mummy curses, resurrected WWF star warriors, and one very angry Billy Zane looking Imhotep. We break down what makes this sequel bigger, louder, and more chaotic than its predecessor, from the introduction of the PS2 graphics of the Scorpion King to the film's ambitious and sometimes questionable early-2000s CGI. Whether you're a longtime fan or watching it for the first time, this episode is your ticket back to the sands of ancient Egypt. On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are unleashing an ancient evil into this world. We watched the 1999 film from Stephen Sommers, The Mummy.Look, accidentally uttering evil words from a surely cursed book that should never have been dug up in the first place could happen to anybody. It's not like Rick or Evie meant to awaken the great and powerful Imhotep.Mistakes happen, you know? It's kind of a jerk move to keep getting on their case about it. They mean well—Evie is a naturally curious lover of ancient Egyptian history and Rick is just a swashbuckling pretty boy who was in the wrong place at the wrong time.It all makes for a thrilling film, and one that's celebrating its twenty-fifth anniversary as of this writing! We've all got one. The thing we saw in a movie or heard a scary story about that struck a nerve somewhere within us, perhaps in our youth, causing a fear we can't quite explain that persists into adulthood. For me, it's not a monster, but it's body horror that really gets under my skin. But for so many, the movies they watched as children and the monsters within them have left lasting impressions. Whether it's Dracula, Frankenstein's monster, the Mummy, or Pennywise the clown from Stephen King's IT, there's most likely some creature on this list that scared you as a kid and possibly still does. TERROR TERRA Steven takes Geeksweat by the hand through the creepy corridors of Hammer House Of Horrors to visit classic horror movie characters that have roamed our imaginations across three different centuries.By exploring two Fifties films this episode reanimates interest in The Curse Of Frankenstein (1957) and the equally fang-tastic Dracula (1958) - films that were both pivotal to the birth of Hammer Horror.Jay and MKH grab their shovels to dig up yesteryear and bring gouged eyes into the laboratory of Terror Terra, so they can see the grisly goings-on featuring both Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing.#BelaLugosi, #blood, #BramStoker, #BrideOfFrankenstein, #BorisKarloff, #Castlevania, #ChristopherLee, #ClassicHorror, #CountDracula, #Dracula, #fangs, #Frankenstein, #FrankensteinsMonster, #goth, #gothic, #halloween, #HammerFilms, #HammerHouseOfHorror, #horror, #HorrorArt, #HorrorFan, #HorrorMovies, #MaryShelley, #monster, #monsters, #Nosferatu, #PeterCushing, #reanimated, #romania, #spooky, #TerrorTerra, #TheMummy, #Transylvania, #vampire, #vampires
Mark and Brian share some final thoughts on The Monster Squad, while Rick is still out trick-or-treating with his kiddos. The gents wonder what the film would have been like if Liam Neeson had been in it, learn some bizarre movie magic used for the castle rats and discover that the character of Scary German Guy was in real-life really "Scary Italian Guy." The lads also realize that the actor who played Dracula was also Zorro, play an epic round of "King of the Thing" pitting notorious monsters against one another and even go off on a Kids Incorporated tangent. You can tweet these "Creature Comrades" @5DollarBinPOD to weigh in on your favorite Halloween baddie and then tune in for some supernatural silliness!
Mark, Rick and Brian have a "reviewsit" of The Monster Squad to celebrate the spooky Halloween season. The lads compare the similarities between this alias 'Goonies With Monsters' and the actual film The Goonies, point out Dracula's obsession with dynamite and define the verb "dorking" as used frequently throughout the movie. The fellas also meet the film's go-to production assistant guy "Randy the Intern," pitch a new product to help werewolves more easily control that pesky fur and reminisce about classic Simpsons Treehouse of Horror episodes. Check your nards first, then join these "Creatures from the Movie Cave" for this eerie episode!
