On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are unleashing an ancient evil into this world. We watched the 1999 film from Stephen Sommers, The Mummy.Look, accidentally uttering evil words from a surely cursed book that should never have been dug up in the first place could happen to anybody. It's not like Rick or Evie meant to awaken the great and powerful Imhotep.Mistakes happen, you know? It's kind of a jerk move to keep getting on their case about it. They mean well—Evie is a naturally curious lover of ancient Egyptian history and Rick is just a swashbuckling pretty boy who was in the wrong place at the wrong time.It all makes for a thrilling film, and one that's celebrating its twenty-fifth anniversary as of this writing! We've all got one. The thing we saw in a movie or heard a scary story about that struck a nerve somewhere within us, perhaps in our youth, causing a fear we can't quite explain that persists into adulthood. For me, it's not a monster, but it's body horror that really gets under my skin. But for so many, the movies they watched as children and the monsters within them have left lasting impressions. Whether it's Dracula, Frankenstein's monster, the Mummy, or Pennywise the clown from Stephen King's IT, there's most likely some creature on this list that scared you as a kid and possibly still does. Crooked Table Podcast - The world of film from a fresh angle
The Dark Universe might have been dead on arrival, but 1999's The Mummy remains just as beloved as ever. More than two decades later, fans continue to revisit Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz's sweeping adventure. On this episode, Catherine Gonzales of Latinx Lens joins the show as we talk about the film's influence on modern blockbusters, its iconic cast of unforgettable characters, and how well it holds up by today's standards. SYNOPSIS The Mummy is a rousing, suspenseful and horrifying epic about an expedition of treasure-seeking explorers in the Sahara Desert in 1925. Stumbling upon an ancient tomb, the hunters unwittingly set loose a 3,000-year-old legacy of terror, which is embodied in the vengeful reincarnation of an Egyptian priest who had been sentenced to an eternity as one of the living dead. Our Score - 7.75/10 (B) Rotten Tomatoes - 61% IMDB - 7/10 Listener Request From: Bat Fastard Although The Mummy (1999) is far different from it's classic movie monster origins, it carves its own path by being a thrilling action adventure movie. The actors are all superb, the sets and locations are intriguing, and the CG remains impressive and effective to this day.

Mark and Brian share some final thoughts on The Monster Squad, while Rick is still out trick-or-treating with his kiddos. The gents wonder what the film would have been like if Liam Neeson had been in it, learn some bizarre movie magic used for the castle rats and discover that the character of Scary German Guy was in real-life really "Scary Italian Guy." The lads also realize that the actor who played Dracula was also Zorro, play an epic round of "King of the Thing" pitting notorious monsters against one another and even go off on a Kids Incorporated tangent. You can tweet these "Creature Comrades" @5DollarBinPOD to weigh in on your favorite Halloween baddie and then tune in for some supernatural silliness!
Mark, Rick and Brian have a "reviewsit" of The Monster Squad to celebrate the spooky Halloween season. The lads compare the similarities between this alias 'Goonies With Monsters' and the actual film The Goonies, point out Dracula's obsession with dynamite and define the verb "dorking" as used frequently throughout the movie. The fellas also meet the film's go-to production assistant guy "Randy the Intern," pitch a new product to help werewolves more easily control that pesky fur and reminisce about classic Simpsons Treehouse of Horror episodes. Check your nards first, then join these "Creatures from the Movie Cave" for this eerie episode!
