VYS0053 | The Mongoose Files - Vayse to Face with Gayle Fidler - Show notes Ever since their childhood days reading the Usborne Book of Ghosts, Hine and Buckley have been obsessing over the mysterious mercurial mammalian Manx marvel - Gef the Talking Mongoose. And finally bringing Gef chat to Vayse is writer, paranormal researcher and selectively supportive spouse to a lard eating champion, Gayle Fidler. In recent years Gayle and her curious collective of cryptid-hunters have made a pilgrimage to the Isle of Man to investigate Gef and immerse themselves in strangeness of his story. Her incredible adventures include some uncanny synchronicities, an unlikely team-up with a movie star, an unexpected connection to Aleister Crowley... and the unpredictable guidance of a certain Dr Allen Greenfield... Workers involved in tomb construction in the Valley of the Kings staged the earliest recorded strike in history on 14th November, 1157 B.C. Having not been paid their ration of food for 18 days, they set about disrupting temple life and rituals, to the shock of Pharaoh Ramses III's administration. The workers' struggle wasn't solely about wages; it reflected broader discontent, too, as they voiced concerns about alleged corruption, such as barley being replaced with dirt in payments. And the strike indicated a shift in the workers' perceptions, as they realised they couldn't rely solely on the divine authority of the Pharaoh to meet their basic needs. In this episode, Arion, Rebecca and Olly reveal how Ancient Egypt was financially decimated by the suppression of the ‘Sea Peoples'; explain how an offer of cake was (unsurprisingly) not enough to pacify the protests; and consider whether the workers' picket-line slogans needed a little workshopping… Further Reading: • ‘When Was The First Strike In History?' Ancient Egypt may never stop fascinating us modern types, but as archeologists in recent centuries began to explore the ruined temples and tombs of one of humanity's oldest civilizations, they unearthed a puzzle: what had led to the seemingly violent attempt to erase a pharaoh whose monuments - intact or destroyed - were some of the finest works ever found? When they learned that Pharaoh Hatshepsut was a woman, their 18th and 19th century brains curdled, coming up with a story of an evil queen who stole her power from the rightful heir. None of this was true. Hatshepsut strode across her world's stage at a moment of rising stability and prosperity in Egypt, and added to it, preserving the throne as regent to a two-year old Pharaoh Thutmose III, and co-reigning alongside him as he matured into one of Egypt's greatest military leaders and pharaohs himself. Hatshepsut's reign widened the possibilities for a kingdom on the cusp of a Golden Age, and gifted humanity with some of the most marvelous pieces of antiquity discovered yet. Trump brings Gaza war crimes home to US autistics.Using starvation to subjugate people is a war crime, whether at the point of a gun or denying SNAP benefits.November 1st, SNAP halted. Healthcare funding threatened. Social Security could vanish, Trump warns. 42 million Americans face losing food assistance. Not someday—right now.A nation that uses starvation on its own civilians? I'm no lawyer, but I'd argue that's tantamount to war on its own people. Any day of the week. And I consider it a crime in its own right, even if courts reserve “war crime” for armed conflict.I can hear it already: “You're being dramatic. That's hyperbolic. You can't compare domestic policy to Gaza.”Watch me.Medieval siege techniques. Surround them and starve them out. Whether it's Gaza or Indiana. What's Actually Happening? The Trump administration threatens benefits we count on to exist as political leverage during government shutdown negotiations. Support promised to the American public for decades, transformed into weapons to get what Trump wants. Here's what international law says about that. The Rome Statute explicitly classifies starvation of civilians as a war crime, a crime against humanity. Around the world, deliberately depriving people of food for political gain—that's defined as genocide. These aren't my words, they're international law.Gaza starvation: internationally recognized war crime.SNAP weaponization: They can call it an unfortunate policy choice, but it's the same tactic, just a different population. Location doesn't change that. Denying food to gain power simply is withholding food, withholding life for power. They're not negotiating. They're holding a gun to our heads. Why Autistics First?Numbers tell you everything you need to know. Autistics face an 85% unemployment rate. So we depend a lot on SNAP—I do. Most of us depend on Medicaid to see our doctors, and many of us are disabled, unable to work. So SSI dependency just to live, it's a high priority. The government knows exactly who gets hit when they pull these levers: autistics, neurodivergents. We're the most vulnerable first. We have the least political power of any minority group, I think. And look at the language they use. “Efficiency.” “Streamlining.” “Reducing dependency.” It's the old Nazi “useless eaters” logic dressed up in techno-bro management appeal. Killing off the weak, dusted off and wrapped in budget terminology. We're the testing ground, that's how it always works. Start with disabled people. Normalize the tactic. See who complains, see if you can get away with it. Then expand to the next group. We're the canaries in the coal mine. We die first. And we're already choking. The Roll Call of History: Every Empire Does ThisWant to know how I know this is a war crime? Because every failing empire does exactly this. Brings colonial violence home. Every. Single. One.France took torture techniques from Algeria, brought them home for Paris riot control. The U.S. militarized policing in the Philippines, deployed in Ferguson. Britain did the exact same thing: tactics used in the Irish colonies, in India, that came home to British workers as labor disputes escalated. This isn't speculation. This is documented history. The Ottoman Empire in its death throes: Armenian genocide, Greek genocide, Assyrian genocide. Ancient Rome. Ancient Egypt. Every single one.The pattern is always the same. It starts with unpopular groups: Jews, immigrants, disabled people, people they call “defective,” “foreign,” “unproductive.” Test on them first, see if anyone notices, see if anyone stops you, then expand.Scholars have a term for this: the “boomerang effect.” Or “internal colonialism”—when you apply colonial logic to your own people. Black radical thinkers saw this first, by the way. They recognized the pattern decades ago.The Gaslighting Ends HereSo when someone says “You're being dramatic”? No. I'm being historically accurate.“That's hyperbolic.” The Rome Statute disagrees. I can read you the details.“You can't compare domestic policy to war.” Every empire in history already done that. They already made that comparison for me.We're not comparing tragedies. “Who's suffering more than who?” We're recognizing tragedy. When policy debates require trigger warnings like this article, like this livestream, maybe it's not policy. When negotiations threaten survival, maybe they're not negotiations. When efficiency means starvation, maybe it's not efficient. It's fucking violence. That need for trigger warnings says it's violence. Not discourse. We're not being fragile. We're being informed. We're watching it happen in real time. Hell, it's obvious in every bowl of beans I eat instead of a hell of heavily tariffed hamburger. What We DoLiving through empire in decline: deadly for many. But here's what we do.We call it as we see it. We refuse sanitized language. When they say “policy,” we call it violence. Because starvation kills as sure as a bullet. Just slower. When they say “negotiate,” we name it hostage taking for the purpose of political power. When they say “efficiency,” we shout starvation tactics. It's medieval siege by budget. No catapults. No cannons. Just clean spreadsheets. We document the pattern. We recognize what's really happening while it's happening. We tell the truth about what we're witnessing. And we survive together. How? Let's talk again soon on meaningful resistance, survival, and mutual aid. I'm nearly ready to share my thoughts next week in my next livestream. The Picture I Want to Leave You WithTrump brings Gaza war crimes home. Not as a metaphor—as a moral diagnosis.Same tactics, similar intent, different location, same fucking outcome.Starvation is starvation. Siege is siege. Death is death. Even if the law reserves “war crimes” for battlefields and guys in uniform.Starting with autistics, starting with disabled people, starting with poor people, starting with anyone who needs to eat and expanding from there. Because that's how it always works. That's not drama, not autistic overreaction. If I ever hear that again—fuck the gaslighting we've lived through all our damn fucking lives. That's international law in definitions. That's documented history in its examples. That's pattern recognition across eras. We're just the ones recognizing it first.ClosingListen, that's all I got really. This episode, it's why I do these livestreams. Why I need this community, you guys.Because when they gaslight us, we need witnesses. We need truth. When they isolate us, we need each other. When they threaten our survival, we need to document what's happening in real time.See you next week around the same time. A unique study of the engineering and tools used to create Egyptian monumentsPresents a stone-by-stone analysis of key Egyptian monuments, including the statues of Ramses II and the tunnels of the SerapeumReveals that highly refined tools and mega-machines were used in ancient EgyptFrom the pyramids in the north to the temples in the south, ancient artisans left their marks all over Egypt, unique marks that reveal craftsmanship we would be hard pressed to duplicate today. Drawing together the results of more than 30 years of research and nine field study journeys to Egypt, Christopher Dunn presents a stunning stone-by-stone analysis of key Egyptian monuments, including the statue of Ramses II at Luxor and the fallen crowns that lay at its feet. His modern-day engineering expertise provides a unique view into the sophisticated technology used to create these famous monuments in prehistoric times.Using modern digital photography, computer-aided design software, and metrology instruments, Dunn exposes the extreme precision of these monuments and the type of advanced manufacturing expertise necessary to produce them. His computer analysis of the statues of Ramses II reveals that the left and right sides of the faces are precise mirror images of each other, and his examination of the mysterious underground tunnels of the Serapeum illuminates the finest examples of precision engineering on the planet. Providing never-before-seen evidence in the form of more than 280 photographs, Dunn's research shows that while absent from the archaeological record, highly refined tools, techniques, and even mega-machines must have been used in ancient Egypt.Christopher Dunn is a master craftsman and engineer with thirty-five years of experience. In the last twenty years, he has published a dozen magazine articles on his theories about ancient technology, including the much quoted Advanced Machining in Ancient Egypt in Analog.https://gizapower.com/Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/earth-ancients--2790919/support.

For this week's Haunting Season-themed Bonus Episode we're chatting all about the mythology of Zombies and Revenants! To start off with, which is which? Because one dates from Medieval times, and the other comes from a word invented by an English poet in 1819.And if we look further back, to Ancient Egypt, Ancient Mesopotamia, Greece, Rome and Scythia, what root creatures and legends can we find that travel forward through history to become 'The Zombie' and 'The Revenant.'One is rooted in fear surrounding death, too, and society showing due respect to the dearly departed, while the other is rooted in racism, yet both end up in the same place.A world of paranoia, filled with the fear of others, and about the belief the End Times are coming.Mix in a little bit of Samurai and Cowboy mythology and a sprinkling of Science Fiction and it turns out we've ended up exactly where we wanted to be.A place where zombies could be anywhere, or anyone... but don't worry, as zombies can be cute now, so, presumably, less dangerous?Three Ravens is an English Myth and Folklore podcast hosted by award-winning writers Martin Vaux and Eleanor Conlon.Released on Mondays, each weekly episode focuses on one of England's 39 historic counties, exploring the history, folklore and traditions of the area, from ghosts and mermaids to mythical monsters, half-forgotten heroes, bloody legends, and much, much more. Then, and most importantly, the pair take turns to tell a new version of an ancient story from that county - all before discussing what that tale might mean, where it might have come from, and the truths it reveals about England's hidden past...Bonus Episodes are released on Thursdays plus Local Legends episodes on Saturdays - interviews with acclaimed authors, folklorists, podcasters and historians with unique perspectives on that week's county. With a range of exclusive content on Patreon, too, including audio ghost tours, the Three Ravens Newsletter, and monthly Three Ravens Film Club episodes about folk horror films from across the decades, why not join us around the campfire and listen in?Learn more at www.threeravenspodcast.com, join our Patreon at www.patreon.com/threeravenspodcast, and find links to our social media channels here: https://linktr.ee/threeravenspodcastProud members of the Dark Cast Network.Visit our website Join our Patreon Social media channels and sponsors Hosted on Acast. This week on F.A.T.E. (From Atheism to Enlightenment), we're journeying deep into the heart of ancient Egypt's sacred mysteries with the extraordinary Fotula Foteini Adrimi — a powerful psychic medium and spiritual teacher chosen by Goddess Isis to bring forth the long-hidden wisdom of the Golden Age.As a child, Fotula's psychic visions were dismissed as “wrong,” but she courageously stayed on her path. Guided by Mary Magdalene, Goddess Hekate, and Isis, she was initiated into profound spiritual teachings from the ancient world. Through visions of her past lives in Egypt, she was shown the ways of “the Living Light” — knowledge meant to guide humanity back to its original divine nature. In this fascinating conversation, we explore: •

fWotD Episode 3083: Tell es-Sakan Welcome to featured Wiki of the Day, your daily dose of knowledge from Wikipedia's finest articles. The featured article for Monday, 13 October 2025, is Tell es-Sakan.Tell es-Sakan (Arabic: تل السكن, lit. 'Hill of Ash') is a tell (a mound created by the accumulation of the remains of consecutive settlements) about 5 kilometres (3 mi) south of Gaza City in Palestine. It was the site of two separate Early Bronze Age urban settlements. Ancient Egypt expanded its territory into southwestern Palestine in the latter half of the 4th millennium BCE and during this time Tell es-Sakan was founded as an administrative centre for the Egyptian colonies in the region. It was inhabited from about 3300 BCE to 3000 BCE. After a period of abandonment a Canaanite city was established around 2600 BCE and inhabited until about 2250 BCE, after which Tell es-Sakan was permanently abandoned.Tell es-Sakan functioned as a trading post and was positioned along what was probably a dried-up channel of the Wadi Ghazzeh – a watercourse that is dry most of the year but in the Bronze Age would have been navigable. The settlement may have been a successor to Taur Ikhbeineh, a nearby site inhabited in the 34th century BCE. At its discovery in 1998, Tell es-Sakan was the oldest known Egyptian fortification and the only known Egyptian fortified settlement beyond the Nile Valley. A fortification of a potentially similar age was found at the Egyptian settlement of Tel Erani in 2013. After the Canaanite city of Tell es-Sakan was abandoned in the 23rd century BCE Tell el-Ajjul was established 500 metres (1,600 ft) to the south, likely as a replacement. The tell was discovered during a building project and subsequently investigated as part of an international collaboration between Palestine's Department of Antiquities and Cultural Heritage and the French National Centre for Scientific Research. Though there were plans for further archaeological research, fieldwork halted after the 2000 season due to the start of the Second Intifada, a Palestinian uprising against Israeli occupation. Finds from Tell es-Sakan have been exhibited in France and Switzerland. The site covered around 8–9 hectares (20–22 acres), of which 0.14 hectares (0.35 acres) has undergone archaeological excavation; a much larger area has been destroyed as a result of construction and conflict. In 2017, the Hamas government's Land Authority began bulldozing part of the site to clear the way for a building project, but halted following opposition from various groups, including the government's Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and the Islamic University of Gaza. The site was further damaged as a result of the Israeli invasion of the Gaza Strip in 2023–25.This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 00:31 UTC on Monday, 13 October 2025.For the full current version of the article, see Tell es-Sakan on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Bluesky at @wikioftheday.com.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm standard Aditi.

Forget everything you've been told about the Great Pyramid. Tonight on Strange Planet, engineer and author Christopher Dunn takes a sledgehammer to the orthodox narrative of ancient Egypt. For decades, Dunn has argued the Great Pyramid wasn't a tomb at all—but a machine: a precisely engineered, resonating power plant capable of generating energy, detecting earthquakes, and perhaps even safeguarding entire civilizations. From Tesla's shadow looming over the Giza Plateau to newly discovered underground structures, Dunn reveals a hidden history that could change our future. Was Egypt's greatest monument the blueprint for a clean-energy revolution the elites don't want you to know? GUEST: Christopher Dunn is a British-born engineer with over 50 years of experience in manufacturing and precision engineering. Combining his technical expertise with a lifelong passion for ancient mysteries, Dunn authored the groundbreaking The Giza Power Plant: Technologies of Ancient Egypt, Lost Technologies of Ancient Egypt, and his latest, GIZA: The Tesla Connection. His meticulous research challenges mainstream Egyptology, offering hard evidence that the Great Pyramid was not a tomb, but an advanced energy machine. A sought-after speaker, Dunn bridges the gap between engineering and archaeology, uncovering a lost chapter of human history that may hold the key to our future. A new exhibition at the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge, UK, called Made in Ancient Egypt, reveals untold stories of the people behind a host of remarkable objects, and the technology and techniques they used. The Art Newspaper's digital editor, Alexander Morrison visits the museum to take a tour with the curator, Helen Strudwick. One of the great revelations of the past two decades in scholarship about women artists is Michaelina Wautier, the Baroque painter active in what is now Belgium in the middle of the 17th century. The largest ever exhibition of Wautier's work opened this week at the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, and travels to the Royal Academy of Arts in London next year. Ben Luke speaks to the art historian who rediscovered this extraordinary painter, Katlijne Van der Stighelen, who has also co-edited the catalogue of the Vienna show. And this episode's Work of the Week is Robert Rauschenberg's Bed (1955), one of the most important works of US art of the post-war period. It features in the exhibition Five Friends: John Cage, Merce Cunningham, Jasper Johns, Robert Rauschenberg, Cy Twombly, which this week arrives at the Museum Ludwig in Cologne. We speak to Yilmaz Dziewior, the co-curator of the exhibition.Made in Ancient Egypt, Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, UK, 3 October-2 April 2026Michaelina Wautier, Painter, Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna30 September-22 February 2026; Royal Academy of Arts, London27 March – 21 June 2026.Five Friends: John Cage, Merce Cunningham, Jasper Johns, Robert Rauschenberg, Cy Twombly, Museum Ludwig, Cologne, Germany,3 October-11 January 2026Student subscription offer: stay connected to the art world from your first lecture to your final dissertation with a three-year student subscription to The Art Newspaper for just £99/$112/€105. I'm back again this week with four more "lost cities" for you. First we'll explore the Egyptian city of Thonis-Heracleion that literally sank beneath the Mediterranean Sea and was rediscovered some 1,200 years later. Next, we'll hop over to Jordan to discover the ancient Nabataean city of Petra with it's grand facades etched into the red rock landscape. After that it's off to Cambodia to learn about the not actually lost at all Khmer city of Angkor. And finally the mountains of Peru where majestic and little understood Machu Picchu looms among the picturesque peaks. But, while it's fun to think about "lost cities," the obvious lesson of this week's episode is: be careful what you call "lost" and be careful how easily you throw out the term "discovered." These words carry weight and they've already caused a lot of damage. Let's fix that. Support the show! Send us a textIn the last episode, we discussed the 'Golden Age of Ancient Egypt'. We left off with the death of Amenhotep III and the rise of his son, Akhenaten. This biography highlights King Akhenaten. The most unique Pharaoh to have ever ruled Egypt, he attempted to change the very foundation of Egyptian thought, and directly challenged the priests of Amun.Checkout the video version at:https://www.youtube.com/@DWAncientEgyptSupport the showThis Podcast series is available on all major platforms.See more resources, maps, and information at:https://www.dwworldhistory.comOutlines, Maps, and Episode Guides for this series are available for download at:https://www.patreon.com/DWWorldHistory

How much can a tiny insect tell us about our relationship with nature? This podcast episode unfolds as a chronicle—tracing one insect, the scarab, across time and place. From the banks of the Nile in Ancient Egypt, to the French Alps twenty years ago, to today's Mediterranean shores, and even millions of years back, when a scarab's body lay buried until archaeologists uncovered it.Why has an insect once worshipped as a god by our ancestors lost its place in our modern cities? What made it so important that our ancestors kept it so close? What wisdom does it hold? And how can we rebuild this relationship—not only with it, but with other living beings?⭐ If you liked the episode, please share it and rate it 5 stars on your favourite platform.Sources:https://ancientegyptonline.co.uk/khepri/https://www.naturalhistorycuriosities.com/insects/scarab-beetles-and-their-meaning-in-the-ancient-egyptian-history/Cover: Illustration of Egyptian scarabs (public domain, from an early archaeological catalogue)Hosted by Ausha. The war of the words. Following his strategic defeat at Kadesh, Ramesses set about putting his version of the story into wide circulation. Today, art and texts of this conflict survive at the temples of Abu Simbel, Karnak, Luxor, Abydos, and the Ramesseum. Among those texts, we have the “Literary Record” or “Kadesh Poem.” A lengthy, dramatised version of the events, painting Ramesses as the great hero. In this episode, I introduce the Literary Record and then read it in full, with musical accompaniment by Jeffrey Goodman. LIVESTREAM about "The Art of Kadesh" on Sunday 14 September. The Ancient Egyptians had a very different idea about death than most people do today. And the idea of mummification is (excuse the pun) wrapped up in so many modern ideas, that we can lose its real purpose.Joining Anthony and Maddy today to take us through the gory details of mummifying a body, and explaining where the term 'mummy' even comes from, is Dr. Campbell Price, author and Egyptologist at University of Liverpool.Edited by Tom Delargy. Everybody's heard about Ancient Egypt. But just downriver, the kingdom of Kush was one of the most powerful states in the Nile valley. Sudanese-British journalist Zeinab Badawi gives us a lesser-known history of Africa's great historical triumphs.
