While reincarnation is not a new topic to Ben and Pat, what do stories of past-lives, or those of the dreamed realities often shared from coma survivors, tell us about spiritual consciousness? On the latest episode of 4Thirty, the guys awaken as they test the limits of the human psyche and try to uncover the the mysteries surrounding our conscious reality. The guys also share their usual dose of funny anecdotes and 'odd news' this week, including an update or two from the world of sports. How did a 20th century British woman's reincarnation conviction lead to breakthroughs in our understanding of Ancient Egypt? Does our understanding of 'time' differ from that of the spiritual realm? Are 'out-of-body' experiences more accepted fact than fiction? Did a current Major League Baseball player recently recreate Jose Canseco's infamous outfield blunder? For answers to these questions and an infinite amount more, give the latest episode of 4Thirty in the Morning a listen!

Toby Wilkinson is one of the world's leading Egyptologists, whose books have ranged across the full sweep of pharaonic history. His latest, The Last Dynasty: Ancient Egypt from Alexander the Great to Cleopatra, covers the 300-year Ptolemaic period — stranger and more modern-feeling than the Egypt of the pyramids, built around commerce and cosmopolitanism rather than divine kingship, and home to the greatest concentration of scientific talent the ancient world ever saw. Tyler and Toby cover how Alexander took over the empire almost without a fight, why Alexandria became the Manhattan of the ancient world, whether the era was as philosophically fertile as it was scientifically, whether your ancient doctor's visit had positive expected value, what Egypt was actually exporting and selling, whether living standards rose above subsistence or stayed Malthusian, how the ethnic divide between Greek rulers and Egyptian subjects shaped society, what constrained the Ptolemaic Empire from becoming the next Rome, whether Cleopatra has been overhyped, what Julius Caesar was really thinking when he sided with her over her brother, the new frontiers in archeology, whether Herodotus can be trusted, what ancient Egypt knew about Israel and India, when Egyptian jewelry peaked and why, what triggered the sudden emergence of civilization across the ancient world, why a six-year-old Tyler knew King Tut better than Napoleon, and much more. Send us Fan MailIn the last episode, Assyria sacked Thebes, the jewel of Amun and the ancient world. They looted the temples and laid waste to the treasury. The Assyrians nominally held Egypt, but Tanutamun was secure in Napata. His death in 656 B.C. ended the Nubian domination of Egypt. This episode focuses on the 26th Dynasty, the Saite Period of Egypt. Checkout the video version at:https://www.youtube.com/@DWAncientEgyptSupport the showThis Podcast series is available on all major platforms.See more resources, maps, and information at:https://www.dwworldhistory.comOutlines, Maps, and Episode Guides for this series are available for download at:https://www.patreon.com/DWWorldHistory

What would you do if your life was omitted, reduced to an overlooked footnote, or filed away as an anomaly? In this episode, Dan and Elizabeth turn a lens on the practice of history itself, interrogating the choices and power structures that have traditionally left women out of the history books. They retrace the lives of three women who once stood firmly in their moment: Hatshepsut, a pharaoh who consolidated power in Ancient Egypt; Joanna Ferrour, a peasant whose voice briefly direct the Peasants' Revolt of 1381; and Ada Lovelace, a Victorian thinker whose ideas arrived well before the world was ready for them. Each was successful in their time. And yet each of their world-changing contributions were quietly edited out, only to be rediscovered generations — or even millennia later. So what does it mean when the practice of history fails to record the world as it was? And what happens when history's failures reveal themselves, much later, as triumphs to a new generation? – As always, Dan's royal favourites can chime in anytime on the royal court on Patreon at patreon.com/thisishistory. And don't forget to listen to this season's accompanying bonus episodes for this miniseries, where Dan and Producer Al are dissecting the biggest historical failures as submitted by the royal favourites. In this episode, they discuss Catherine Parr's failed arrest, and what the Crusades reveal about success and failure. – A Sony Music Entertainment production.
