What a HOT topic we have this week. You might be cringing hearing this phrase or maybe getting engaged in the Spring was or is your dream, so come one and all! There was no one better to bring along for this conversation other than Ellie Bruns because of her "chill" energy when it comes to dating and marriage. The push to get married quickly or rushing a relationship timeline is becoming more and more of a theme in this generation so we had to talk about all the ins and outs! We are simply #pumped for y'all to hear this one!!!!
Liberty University, my alma mater, had a saying, “Ring By Spring.” A ring by spring was normal on our campus as a way to help Christian students focus on marriage instead of pre-marital sex. The pressures of marriage were far beyond my campus grounds. What's the rush? And is this a good or bad idea when we don't really know who we're marrying?
Zak and Louisa Lalic join Josie to talk about meeting and dating while in university. The conversation gets candid as they dig deep into how Zak intentionally pursued Louisa and how it ultimately led to a “zoom” wedding. In this episode, we are thrilled to speak with Marie, who comes from a fundamentalist southern baptist background. After being homeschooled her entire K-12 years, Marie eventually attended one of the most well-known and highly controversial Christian Evangelical colleges, Liberty University. Marie has major insight into what it was like to attend this conservative school and will spill the tea on how most students achieved their “Ring by Spring.” Follow us on Instagram @themodestyfiles for updates and bonus content.
This week we’re discussing one of the most dreaded and revered concepts at Christian colleges: the “ring by spring” phenomenon. Students talk about it at George Fox. They talk about it at Gonzaga. And it is apparently also the title of a Hallmark movie. We use the concept as a bridge to thinking about the romantic relationships between the ancestors in Genesis chs. 12–50: Abraham and Sarah, Isaac and Rebekah, Jacob and Rachel and Leah, Joseph and Asenath. And…others. Were these marriages “good” marriages? What should we make of their methods of engagement (often in arranged marriages)? Dr. Doak and Dr. Payne debate.
In this episode, Sharee and Katie discuss the "Ring By Spring" culture at small colleges as well as what it looks like to grow and change in the early years of adulthood. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/sharee-nurse/message

"Ring By Spring" is a phrase used primarily in small conservative, religious universities, indicating that a person ought to have a ring on their finger by the spring semester of their senior year in college. Quotes include: “Do you know how many months of Tinder Premium you can get for the price of a liberal arts degree?” “We’re starting a new segment on the show called “Are They Still Married?" “Tinder Premium is not cheap. But, if there was a program that allowed you to received unsubsidized or perhaps subsidized federal loans for Tinder Premium – we’d have something to talk about”
Continuing our Ring By Spring series, TA spoke on what the Bible says about biblical sex.
Guest speaker, JP gave us five things to look for in someone you're wanting to pursue a relationship with.
This message focuses on our relationships with others as Dale encourages us to ask the questions, "Am I self-righteous? Am I angry? Am I lustful?".
In this message, Dale talks about love and what it means in relationships, towards God and towards others.
This week, Dale kicked off the new semester with a message about the importance of the season of singleness and answers the question, "What is singleness and what do I do in singleness?".
Dawn and Megan take on a 2014 Hallmark Channel Original, "Ring by Spring." The premise? A woman hears from a fortune teller that either she will "get a ring by spring" or never get a ring then her boyfriend breaks up with her, so she tries to figure out why no one wants to marry her and falls in like with business consultant client. Tangents include me almost beginning to sing "Take on Me," us coming up with a theme song for the fortune teller that's eerily reminiscent of a Duckburg-related show's theme, the recruiting slogan for the US Army, and Dawn pining for a life of travel or at least moving to Canada if nothing else.
We're taking a new direction this week with a gushy, chick-flicky trip to the Hallmark Channel. A Ring By Spring may or may not have had us questioning our very sanity.
