Welcome back to another episode of Locked on Seminoles, your favorite daily Florida State Seminoles sports podcast! Drake and Dave break down the newly-released 2023 schedule for Florida State, and explain why they believe it sets up well for a playoff run. First, Drake and Dave discuss the opening third of the schedule—9/3 vs. LSU in Orlando; 9/9 vs. Southern Miss; 9/16 @ Boston College; and 9/23 @ Clemson—and discuss the fact that despite the difficulty of playing LSU and Clemson in the same month (and to start the season), having their most challenging games early provides the Seminoles a buffer to make the playoffs even with a loss. Then, the guys tackle the middle third of the schedule following a bye week on September 30th (after Clemson)—10/7 vs. Virginia Tech; 10/14 vs. Syracuse; 10/21 vs. Duke; and 10/28 @ Wake Forest—in what Dave coins the “control your destiny” part of the schedule, as the Seminoles will be favored and should beat each of these 4 teams (3 of which will be played at home in Doak), like good teams are supposed to do. Finally, they assess the final third of the season—11/4 @ Pitt; 11/11 vs. Miami; 11/18 vs. North Alabama; and 11/25 at Florida—and argue that getting Miami late could actually be a good thing, notwithstanding the fact that the Miami and Florida games fall within 3 weeks of each other. Yet again, FSU will be favored in each of these games and should control its ACC Championship and playoff destiny, without an overly high level of scheduling difficulty (thanks, ACC?). As always, thanks for making Locked on Seminoles your first listen each and every day. We thank y'all for all the love and support and hope you enjoy the show. We're back with another edition of the Yolk with Doak, our series with golf architect Tom Doak. Andy and Tom devote a portion of this episode to discussing Ballyneal Golf and Hunt Club, Tom's acclaimed 2006 design in the Chop Hills of Colorado. They talk about Ballyneal's conception, how the owners influenced the final product, comparisons to Coore & Crenshaw's Sand Hills, and the holes that required the most earthmoving. In the second part of the episode, Tom fields listener questions about Old Macdonald at Bandon Dunes, whether par 3s can be strategic, holes with two greens, and the notion of playing a hole down another hole's fairway. They also discuss Pinehurst more generally, touching on the strengths of Donald Ross's No. 2 course and the importance of Coore & Crenshaw's 2010 restoration of it. Welcome back to another episode of Locked on Seminoles, your favorite daily Florida State Seminoles sports podcast! Drake and Dave continue Miami hate week and dig deeper into Florida State's matchup against the hapless Hurricanes, offering reasons why FSU should win resoundingly in this matchup and the implications of doing so, and bringing back a special guest (yup, it's Max!) to join in the fun! First, the guys discuss big picture issues with Mario Cristobal's Canes this season which are particularly exploitable in this matchup, including a putrid offense, first half scoring woes, and key defensive deficiencies, among many other things which revolved around the question: is there a massive regression around Tyler Van Dyke or is is the coaching and scheming of Josh Gattis and Mario Cristobal. Next, they bring in a special guest that you know and love to discuss key statistical areas that Florida State should particularly look to exploit, including and especially explosiveness defense, which suits well an FSU offense that's thrived on chunk plays. If Middle Tennessee State could do it, Jordan Travis then should just have an absolute field day against the Canes right? Finally, they weigh the implications of a Florida State win against the Hurricanes, especially on the recruiting trail, and discuss why this is a virtually must-win (and perhaps must-big-win) matchup. Implications around recruiting, perception and optics among her fanbase, Norvell and company have a chance to step up to the plate and go yard against the University of Coral Gables. Welcome in to Noles News Now, your audio home for all things happening in Florida State athletics on the Tomahawk Nation podcast network. Yeah, it's Monday again. But at least its an FSU game week Monday. Thanks so much for tuning in. I'm Brian Pellerin on this Monday October 24th. I hope you used the Florida State football bye week and followed the team's lead in picking up some rest and preparing for the stretch run. Mike Norvell's team got that opporunity to heal up their bodies and minds, clear that 3 game losing streak and charge toward the final 5 games of the season. That stretch run starts with Georgia Tech in Doak this weekend. Kickoff for that is at noon on the ACC Network. Florida State opened as 20.5 point favorite so oddsmakers like them to snap that losing skid and roll through the Yellow Jackets. G-T is 3-4 on the seson with those wins coming against West Carolina, Duke and Pitt. The losses to Clemson, Ole Miss, UCF and Virginia. If FSU takes care of themselves, they should be able to handle business and move one win away from bowl eligibility. Of course, that's the lowest of expectations for this team down the stretch. Fans are hoping for much more and so is our Seminole Wrap crew. Jon Marchant, Max Escarpio and myself discussed on this week's episode available today. We looked at the team's still on the schedule, gave our confidence in FSU winning, which ones we expect to give them problems -- the answer there might surprise you -- and gave our predictions for the team's final record. Again, that's on Seminole Wrap this week. Episode dropping today. A bye week also gives the coaching staff a chance to get out on the recruiting trail a bit more as well so now is a great time to check back in with our recruiting and transfer portal thread looking at the Tribe for 2023 to see where the staff was out making moves. Elsewhere, Link Jarrett got his first win as the FSU baseball coach, sorta. The Noles beat Kennesaw State in its first exhibition game of fall ball. Whole lot of midnights between now and the actual start of the year... Opening Day is February 17th against James Madison. Speaking of exhibitions! the men's basketball team also wanted to get in on the fun... they'll hold their own on Thursday against Newberry College. Admission for that one is free. Gotta like that. The women's basketball team has their first exhibition on Sunday. The soccer team got a big bounceback win yesterday defeating Pittsburgh 1-0 with a second half goal and volleyball had an excellent weekend, posting two sweeps. Those straight set wins were over Virginia Tech and Wake Forest. That'll do it for today's Noles News Now. Until Wednesday, I'm Brian Pellerin. Thanks for listening. Learn more about your ad choices. Tom Doak has a reputation for being difficult. Golf media has described him as socially awkward and emotionally remote, traits that are often overlooked in favor of the brilliance he's brought to course designs around the world. But there is much more to Tom Doak and his public persona than people have discussed or know about–until now. With unflinching candor, Doak digs deep on “my media reputation as an asshole,” discussing what he's learned about himself through group therapy and addressing his complicated relationships with peers like Gil Hanse and David McLay Kidd. It all makes for a riveting conversation about the forces that shape our lives–some that we might change, and others that we learn to accept.

Happy Monday... Noles Nation... Welcome to your first official game week of 2022. The Florida State Seminoles football team is back on the field at Doak for a game that matters this weekend. Get the tailgates and TVs ready. Football is back. Thank you so much for listening to Noles News Now, your podcast home for all the news happening around Florida State sports three times a week. I'm your host Brian Pellerin on this Monday morning, guiding you through the weekend that was. The biggest note, yeah, I already told you. Fall camp is finished and football is here. And if it doesn't quite feel like football yet for you, look in this article and check out the video of Jordan Travis smashing the rock. It's a sign of achieving a goal, overcoming obstacles and showing progress and work from a player that has the mindset to win so to end fall camp. It makes sense that the undisputed leader of this team, quarterback Jordan Travis, took the hammer and closed camp the best way possible. Travis gets his first chance to show off the improvements he's made in his passing game this weekend against Duquesne. Nobody needs to take that leap as much as the Noles signal caller. We'll see that Saturday, but there's still plenty of game week activities to see between now and then. First and foremost, it'll be Mike Norvel's weekly press conference today. In case you forgot how that goes, each Monday Norvell adresses the media -- typically recapping the week before after reviewing the film and looking ahead to this weekend's game. With no game to review, he'll probably tackle many of the same questions as he has this offseason with some extras about Duquesne. We'll have a recap of that presser posted on Tomahawk Nation dot com later today with the highlights. This week on Seminole Wrap, Max Escarpio and myself take a look at some of the biggest standouts from the final week of fall camp, look ahead to what we want to see from FSU against Duquesne and some news out of Baton Rouge as LSU appears to be down an offensive playmaker for the FSU on top of the already lingering QB battle there. Lots going on as we do a final fall camp episode. Later this week, we'll drop a full season preview to get you set for the season ahead as well looking at predictions, wins-losses, surprises and more. That episode expected Friday. The final fall camp episode is available now in your podcast feed. College football not the only sport getting underway as plenty of future Noles gridiron stars have started their high school seasons. Among them, Benedictine High School QB and FSU commit Luke Kromenhoek. He dropped 4 touchdowns in the first half of a 45-0 route that included a nice dime down the right sideline you should find in this article if you haven't seen it already. Meanwhile, the FSU soccer team has notched their first W of the season. After a draw in their opener on Thursday against 12th ranked South Carolina, the Noles beat Georgia in Athens 3-1 to get the first win of Brian Pensky's tenure as head coach. Florida State jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first 28 minutes and never looked back. They return to Tallahassee for their home opener on Thursday against Auburn. That's it for this Monday's Noles News Now. We'll be back on Wednesday to update on the biggest happenings early on this opening game week of 2022. Until then, be sure to follow this feed so you're up to date on the latest this football season. Thanks for listening. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
