In starting Amity Brew Co back in 2020, the team wanted a business that stood for community, friendship and good beer. And more than four years on, they can proudly say they've achieved just that. But that doesn't mean they're planning on slowing down, though. Far from it. Because in 2025, the West Yorkshire business is set to take its next exciting step.Amity Brew Co is the brainchild of Russ Clarke, Verity Clarke and Richard Degnan. Opening their doors in 2020, the business is based in Sunny Bank Mills, a commercial and cultural destination in the heart of the local community of Farsley, Leeds.Founded in 1829, these glorious Mills are being regenerated by the sixth generation of the family owners. As a result, they are creating a blend of work, leisure and culture, offering beautifully restored creative business spaces for both small and large organisations like breweries. And since starting out, Amity has gone on to create a wealth of fantastic beers. They've become a central community hub and provided employment, too. The brewery also graced the cover of our very own publication in March 2022, and you can conveniently read our profile of the team's early days via the link above. But nearly three years is a long time, and much has changed since then. So last week with caught up with co-founder Russ to reflect on how the team has maintained its community ethos since day one. Why a strong core range will always complement new and seasonal beers, and how 2025 will mark a year of positive change for the much-loved brewery.
It always brings me great joy to publish the recordings of the panel discussions we have at FyneFest each year. This year's were our best and busiest yet, with our new Origins Tent making our small portion of the festival feel more accessible and welcoming than ever before. Thanks to everyone that came down, and if you enjoy the sound of this, then head to fynefest.com this week to secure your tickets to next year's festival. We'll be back again, hosting more talks and tastings just like this one!Speaking of which, this has to be one of the most fun, most bonkers discussions we've had so far. The premise was a simple one: We talked up our favourite traditional beer styles. Styles like bitter, mild, porter, stout and old ale. A simple premise, really, but one that proved to be really effective. Traditional beer styles and cask dispense are having what feels like a moment right now, so here's hoping this turns out to be the beginning of something lasting, rather than a flash in the pan.Huge thanks again to our panellists, Jamie Delap of Fyne Ales, Bob Cary of Good Chemistry Brewing and Russ Clarke of Amity Brewing. Thanks also to Aidy Fenwick of Fyne Ales for helping us to organise these talks, and for running samples to our (very) thirsty audience. A last note: instead of publishing all five talks we recorded at FyneFest in one go, this time we're going to intersperse them between regular episodes. We hope this will keep things feeling a bit fresher (and it also means you won't be waiting as long for some of the fantastic interviews we've been recording to come out.) We hope you enjoy listening, and if you're enjoying the Pellicle podcast be sure to subscribe and leave a rating in your streaming app of choice, and tell some friends about us!We're able to produce The Pellicle Podcast directly thanks to our Patreon subscribers, and our sponsors Loughran Brewers Select. If you're enjoying this podcast, or the weekly articles we publish, please consider taking out a monthly subscription for less than the price of a pint a month.

Russ Clarke brings out a message challenging individuals and the Church about wandering sheep, the need for spiritual guidance and food, how the Church in this generation are guilty of sending the sheep away hungry and how this whole miracle points to Christ, who He is and what He came to do.
Russ Clarke delivers a message taken from 1 Samuel 17. The state of the army of Israel, Saul cowering in his tent, fear amongst the men. Then David comes along. Here unfolds the heart of David in delivering israel from the enemy, conquering the giant and most importantly of all how the person and work of Jesus Christ is revealed in this story.
Russ Clarke delivers a message from 1 Samuel 17 and the surrounding chapters describing how Israel went from being a feared army whom the God of heaven and earth was with, to a fearful people hiding in caves and holes from Goliath. How did this happen? Why did the great army of God run in fear from one man? And what does this have in common with the Church of today?
Is Russ Clarke's TerraTech the next Minecraft? The Guardian certainly thinks it's a contender and a growing fanbase and list of awards are proof of its early success. Russ is founder of game developer Payload Studios and is the lead developer of TerraTech. He joins Mike and Pete in the studio for this edition of Crowd Scene. TerraTech is a physics-based game about exploring an alien planet, mining resources and blowing stuff up! But it’s not a typical video game – as you explore worlds you’re inventing, finding resources and building vehicles– in that sense it’s not unlike a new kind of Lego. In fact, as Russ puts it, TerraTech is like "Lego with guns". Russ set out to raise £35,000 on Kickstarter to bring TerraTech to life and by the end of the campaign, more than 1,600 backers took the total over £39,000. Russ shares a wealth of advice both as an entrepreneur and as a crowdfunder. If you enjoy this episode, please post a review of Crowd Scene on iTunes. Thanks for listening. As ever, all show notes for this episode – including links to everything mentioned in the show – can be found on our website crowdsceneshow.com

West London Games is a British independent game studio founded by Russ Clarke to develop the ultimate exploration and combat game, TerraTech. Russ has previously worked at London’s Ideaworks mobile studio until 2012. He developed the first prototype for TerraTech by himself shortly afterwards, pulling in his experience from working on beloved franchises like Metal Gear, Call of Duty, Resident Evil, Tomb Raider and Fable. After spending some time working as a consultant he returned to the TerraTech prototype to turn his vision into a full blown indie project. Join us as we discuss the radical growth of "Let's Plays" and how they can be beneficial to the developer. Moreover, we start with his first machine, the BBC Micro, and how the experiences for gamers in the UK contrasted those of gamers in the US in the 80s and early 90s.
