Let's a-go into a new year! This week on the NXpress Nintendo Podcast, Cameron Daxon, Marc Kaliroff, and Campbell Gill send off a momentous year with their final podcast recorded in 2022, and ring in a new year with an episode full of hot takes and spicy Nintendo predictions for 2023. Before all that, though, what better way to welcome the new year than with triumphant fanfare? The gang responds to a listener question by discussing their favorite fanfare themes in video games, and from Final Fantasy to Mario to Kirby to Metal Gear, they certainly have plenty to pick from! Then, to the Main Event: predicting Nintendo's 2023. We have a whole new year ahead of us, full of possibilities for surprises from the Big N. The gang takes turns making bold predictions about what Nintendo fans can look forward to: could this be the year we see Wind Waker HD on Switch, Advance Wars 1+2 Re-boot Camp make its long-delayed debut, or a new 3D Mario game to align with the upcoming movie? Will we ever see Metroid Prime 4, or the elusive next-gen Switch? The gang offer their takes on all these questions and more! Last but absolutely not least, Cameron closes out the show with an RPG extravaganza centered on the excellent new indie adventure Chained Echoes. Taking after the best SNES JRPGs of the roleplaying Golden Age, Chained Echoes is a gripping take on the classic genre formula with plenty of modern conveniences thrown in to boot. Turn-based battles, an engaging plot, and plenty of controllable super mechs, Chained Echoes has a little bit of everything you could want–and this discussion leads into a broader conversation on other great RPGs on Switch (Final Fantasy VII, anyone?). All this and more in this week's episode of NXpress. Happy 2023, everybody!
Hideo Kojima and his Metal Gear series is well known and highly regarded, except for one game in the series thats largely overlooked and thats Metal Gear Solid (Metal Gear Ghost Babel) on Gameboy Color. Its every bit as technologically impressive and written interestingly as any other game in the series and I finally played it. Lets talk about the little county of Gindra and its bide for independence by stealing a Metal Gear, hiring a mercenary outfit named Black Chamber and threatening the US to leave their country, but instead of negotiating with "terrorists" decides to just send in the legend Solid Snake to take out Metal Gear, but it's never as straight foward as it seems.
“And today we're talking about a gruff goat with a wooly throat. But more on that later.” High up in the mountains of central Asia lives a giddy goat with a lot of panache and a penchant for stomping its enemies into the dirt. But the rumor mill stops for no goat, not even for […]

I apologize in advance for the lengthy answer. I'd love to see more horror RPGs. So a character driven horror franchise like Resident Evil or Fatal Frame would lend themselves to the genre really well. I'd also like to see how a Stealth based RPG could pan out, so series like Metal Gear, A Plague Tale, Shadow Tactics: Blade of the Shogun, or Wildfire. Good candidates for tactical RPGs would be Mass Effect, State of Decay, or the Walking Dead. grrouchie - I would love to see an actual Zelda RPG, and I'd love some Sports RPGs as well. But, horror. I want a good, deep, bloody, scary horror RPG ngachacha - I think the Batman Arkham games would make great card based RPG games. Your party could be made up of Batman, Nightwing, Batgirl and the Redhood. Attack cards can consist of melee attacks or different Bat-gadgets. Make it happen Rocksteady! It's the episode before Halloween, so of course we have to cover one more "scary" game. And I can't think of a better option than one of the OG scary games, and honestly, just one of the best games on the NES altogether: Castlevania. This bad boy has been near the top of the "most requested" list for years now, but the issue was that I just didn't play a ton of it growing up. I used to rent it sometimes, but the Medusa heads and stairs gave me nightmares and I never went back. So I spent 3 days just binging the game in preparation of this podcast, and we actually recorded it minutes after I beat the game on stream (and I was still pretty riled up). My boy Mark McCue is my guest this week (he spent a large chink of this past week playing Castlevania to get ready for this episode as well), and we had a great time talking about stupid stairs, evil Medusa heads, a certain fight against a certain dead guy, and most importantly, about why Castlevania is an all-time classic. And before we fall through some stairs, I scrape together another edition of the 'Remember The Game? Infamous Intro'! This week, we talk about the impact Goldeneye 007 will have on Nintendo's Switch Online subscriber count. Is the Xbox Series S becoming an issue? And can Pokemon only say their names, or are they named after the only word they can say?? Plus we have another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! We are SO excited about today's episode that we might just need to hide under a cardboard box. This week we're talking about Metal Gear Solid with voice actor, screenwriter, bonafide legend, Solid Snake himself - David Hayter (he/him). We chat about the origins of Metal Gear, the incredible, intricate mind of Hideo Kojima, how Snake's voice evolved over the years, and what makes this story so compelling (and so hard to compare to other stealth games. Sorry, Splinter Cell). Plus, David drops some HOT TAKES about the game and some bonus insights into David's genre-defining work as the screenwriter for X-Men and Watchmen. We're going to doing a LIVE episode of The Fandom Show on Twitch as part of Extra Life's Game Day, a 24 hour gaming marathon on November 5th, 2022. Welcome to Dev Game Club, where this week we complete our series on Far Cry 2. Brett describes to Tim some of the buddy system stuff he missed, and then the hosts look at later installments before turning to takeaways. Dev Game Club looks at classic video games and plays through them over several episodes, providing commentary. Sections played: Far Cries 3, 5, and 6 Issues covered: a cry too far, buddies dying and having to choose how, variants on missions and why you might not do one, being able to replace some buddies, punishing moments and impact vs lack of control, a false sense of agency, making a safe area dangerous, wanting to get to the Jackal, your buddies turning on you at the end, how much the weapons and enemies update, always having a fresh gun, real things in the world as progression items, the fork in the road, quality of life and usability and the loss of the commitment to useful player friction, becoming the "list game," automated gaming, caring more about why you're doing what you're doing, missing immersion and discovery, watching the minimap/playing the UI, increasing enemy variety and using damage types, stealth improvements, playing in a dark way, going campy, leaning on cultures and claiming not to be political, diagetic design/character embodiment, healing yourself or your buddies, the right feedback at the right times, the feedback in the world, audio design communicating so much, greater depth of simulation, useful friction and leading to interesting encounters, what games iterated on these ideas?, open world checklist, dealing with the "real world." Games, people, and influences mentioned or discussed: STALKER, Heart of Darkness/Apocalypse Now, Crysis, Arkham (series), Assassin's Creed (series), Ghost Recon (series), Metal Gear (series), Ratchet and Clank (series), GTA III, Metro (series), Just Cause (series), Saint's Row (series), This War of Mine, Dark Souls, Kirk Hamilton, Aaron Evers, Mark Garcia. It's a big news week this week as John, Solon, and Lorelai are here to go over it all as well as what they've been playing this week. Solon's been recovering from PAX and John's been playing more Xenoblade Chronicles 3. Lorelai has been pulling a demo week with the demos and betas for Havestella, Various Daylife, Valkyrie Elysium, and her future Game of the Generation Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty. AIn the news Babylon's Fall is shutting down, Deltarune is getting an update, Overwatch is going offline for a couple days, EVGA is leaving graphics card manufacturing, and major layoffs have hit G4TV and Fanbyte. We also go over all the news from the Nintendo Direct like Zelda : Tears of a Kingdom, Pikmin 4, Fire Emblem Engage, Octopath Traveler 2, and all the farming games. At the Sony State of Play, we say a new Team Ninja game, Tekken 8, Pacific Drive, and the show closer, a God of War controller. Finally, we go over everything from TGS from Like a Dragon: Gaiden, Like a Dragon: Ishin, Like a Dragon 8, Street Fighter 6, Mega Man Battle Network, and the ultimate rare Konami W. That's right, the remaster they've been teasing announcing forever wasn't a Bluber Team Silent Hill or a Metal Gear remaster. No, it was a Suikoden 1 and 2 HD Remaster, and Lorelai is incredibly emotional about it. It's another weird energy Sunday morning recording! It's also our version of a "beach episode," the calm before the storm that is the MLB playoffs. We bring our dear friend Manu AKA @ManuclearBomb onto to the show to talk about TV for a while, specifically the new Star Wars, Dragon Show, and Hobbit Show. We also talk about regional accents and Metal Gear, then get into some actual baseball stuff including the Cubs, Pujols getting to 700, and a little bit of talk about the upcoming playoffs. Outro: Mike Oldfield - Nuclear And be sure to go sign up for our patreon! October is going to be a great month for subscribers as we have lots of great guests and extra watch alongs coming up! 📱 Twitter: @ReconectadosPod Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/ReconectadosPodcast/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/reconectadospod/ Jabote: @Jabote22 Manu: @ManuGmn
Hello all you Ed-Heads, Timbos, and Candice Ian infatuated. This week we have a hum dinger of an episode. We are joined for the first time by my role model, Kurt Russell as the one and only Snake Plissken. Who Candice dated a guy that was convinced Kojima took no inspiration from for the Metal Gear series. A harsh inditement on the intellect of Candice, and her romantic interests at the time. Tim is largely checked out this episode, I think he was wounded by how dope Snake's hair looked, or maybe he was too distracted by a Pam Grier with proper modulation. Which is when the electric eye, which is a green type of tube... 20 bucks if you get that referance. Anyhow, subscribe to hear our Barbarian review at https://www.patreon.com/bloodybits Hit us up on twitter. you can check us out on twitter. In one of this year's most unexpected moves, PlayStation has decided to increase the price of its newest console in multiple territories around the globe. When someone thinks of video games, they might imagine playing their favorite games with their friends or competing against others for the top score in competitive-style leaderboards. Naturally, these services need internet access to function, but not everyone takes time to think about the servers that host these features — at least not until a company announces that they're going to shut them down. We discuss our favorite ones that have gone by the wayside, as well as the current services we'll miss most when they are inevitably shut down. We'll also be talking about Sony's acquisition of Savage Game Studios and the new PlayStation Studios Mobile Division, how Nintendo is apparently not involved in the new Switch DRM initiative, Konami's confirmation that a new game from one of their world-famous franchises will be announced at Tokyo Game Show, and how the last remaining cartridges found in Alamogordo landfill's Atari Tomb will be sold on eBay. Finally, class is in session with Professor Ryebread in our Gaming History 101 segment. In this episode, we're looking at the history of Hideo Kojima and the Metal Gear series. We love our sponsors! Splinter Cell is a tough episode for me. I was once a secret agent that snuck into Government agencies to steal briefcases full of data sticks, and it isn't something I like to talk about. Also, it's a really impressive game, but it's a stealth game, and as an impatient dipshit, I fucking hate stealth games. So this is one of those episodes where I'm trying to walk the line and explain why I don't really like it, but why there's not really a lot wrong with it, either. It's not perfect, but it's revolutionary as hell. And honestly, I think it has a better game engine than it's stealthy opposition, Metal Gear. My buddy, Bradley McCue, returns to the show this week. He's a big Metal Gear fan, I don't particularly like stealth games, and I thought we'd be the perfect duo to review a stealth game that isn't Metal Gear. And before we anger all you Splinter Cell junkies, I sneak in (see what I did there?) another edition of the 'Remember The Game? Infamous Intro'! This week, we get into our most satisfying gaming moments. A listener asks me what I would have done differently if I could go back in time and call the shots at Sega. And will physical copies of modern video games be sought after like NES cartridges are in thirty years? Plus we have another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 Xbox badasees: Hitman 2, Max Payne, and Thief: Deadly Shadows. Are you on social media? Of course you are. So follow us!
