Send us a text#DodlestonMessages #HauntedComputer #ParanormalInvestigation Did a ghost, alien—or something else—make contact through a 1980s computer? In this episode of Into the Fog, I explore the astounding case of the Dodleston Messages—one of the most baffling paranormal incidents ever recorded. In 1985, a man named Ken Webster began receiving eerie text communications on a BBC Micro computer. The messages appeared to come from someone living in the 16th century. But over time, the communications grew more complex, hinting at ghosts, time travel, UFOs, and possibly even non-human intelligence. This episode draws not only on the original account, The Vertical Plane, but also on material from the updated edition, which includes new details and clarifications not included in the first release.Whether you're familiar with the case or hearing about it for the first time, this video offers a fresh look at one of the most haunting and unexplainable stories in paranormal history. Was it a hoax? A haunting? Or something far stranger that defies logic?Listen to the end—and decide for yourself. For more on Peter Laws check out:www.patreon.com/peterlawsor www.peterlaws.co.uk

As April 2025 marks the 40th anniversary of the Arm architecture, I am re-releasing my episode with Steve Furber. What began as an ambitious project in a small corner of Cambridge, U.K., has grown into the world's most widely adopted computing architecture, now powering billions of devices – from sensors, smartphones and laptops to vehicles, datacenters and beyond. It was at 3pm on 26th April 1985, the chip that led to the world's first commercial RISC processor powered up... and changed the world!Steve Furber is a seminal computer scientist, mathematician and hardware designer whose work includes the BBC Microcomputer and the ARM 32-bit RISC microprocessor which can be found in over 100 billion devices today.Steve studied both Maths followed by a PhD in Aerodynamics at Cambridge University before joining Herman Hauser and Chris Curry at Acorn Computers. For the next decade, he would work with a first-class team of engineers and designers to revolutionise the home computer market before he and Sophie Wilson went on to design the ARM processor with a relatively small team and budget and with little inkling of the consequence it might bring to the world. In 1990, Steve left Acorn moved to Manchester where he is now Professor of Computer Engineering at the university there. He was charged with leading research into asynchronous systems, low-power electronics and neural engineering which led to the SpiNNaker project - a super computer incorporating a million ARM processors which are optimised for computational neuroscience. He is basically trying to reverse engineer the brain – a lofty ambition even by his own admission. In this wide-ranging conversation, we discuss Steve's life journey from studying maths with professors such as the famed John Conway and Sir James Lighthill to the highs and lows of building the BBC Micro and the story behind the ARM 32-bit RISC microprocessor.I thoroughly enjoyed talking to Steve and am overly excited about his SpiNNaker project which we also discuss today.Enjoy!--------------Steve Furber info / SpiNNaker info / Micro Men filmDanielle on Twitter @daniellenewnham and Instagram @daniellenewnham / Newsletter Watch Steve and Sophie talk about those early arm days tomorrow - buy your tickets here.
Skip to 15.30 to jump straight to the stories. In this episode, Becky delves into the heartbreaking case of Jessica Dishon, a 17-year-old girl from Shepherdsville, Kentucky, whose mysterious disappearance led to a harrowing investigation full of twists, false leads, and an unexpected resolution. What really happened to Jessica, and how did the truth finally come to light?Afterwards, Emma kicks off a brand-new paranormal deep dive with The Vertical Plane (Part 1)—a baffling case of alleged time-slip communication. In the mid-1980s, Ken Webster claimed to receive messages on his BBC Micro computer from someone in the 16th century. Hoax? Glitch? Or something far stranger? While the case itself is weird as hell, we can't help but laugh our way through the madness. We really hope you enjoy this week's episode, if you'd like to join us on social media you can find us @SCSK_podcast on tik tok, twitter and instagram, spine chillers and serial killers for facebook and you tube or email us at chillers.killers.pod@gmail.com.-You can find Edward October (our doorman) from Octoberpod AM here : https://open.spotify.com/show/5cESmW8JiW8O1NMrX4ul4mOr Find him on You Tube : https://www.youtube.com/@OctoberpodHomeVideoEmma's Etsy store is here if anyone wants spooky merch, only just opened so lots more to come! https://thecuriouscraftroom.etsy.com Hosted on Acast. What began as a love triangle turned into a chilling tale of greed, betrayal, and murder, culminating in a public execution that would challenge the very nature of capital punishment in Great Britain. (The Murderous Mannings) *** In 1720, amidst a perilous pirate attack on the Atlantic, a newborn's cry changed the course of destiny. Ocean-Born Mary, christened by buccaneers and gifted with a bolt of green silk, would grow from a maritime legend into a symbol of courage and resilience in colonial New England, her extraordinary birth weaving a tapestry of fact and fiction that continues to captivate imaginations centuries later. (A Pirate's Godchild, Ocean-Born Mary) *** On the morning of June 20, 2001, Andrea Yates shocked the nation by drowning her five children, one by one, in the family bathtub. Years of untreated mental illness, compounded by religious fanaticism and postpartum psychosis, culminated in this unimaginable tragedy. Was it the work of a tortured mind, or something darker at play? (Did The Devil Make Her Do It?) *** Deep in the ancient folds of the Appalachian Mountains, where time seems to slow and shadows linger, legends have taken root for millennia. These peaks have become a breeding ground for supernatural tales that blend seamlessly with the landscape. The sheer age and untamed nature of Appalachia have given birth to a rich tapestry of myths, from the Mothman, to ghosts, to the Devil himself. (Modern Mythology and Ancient Appalachia) *** In the heart of Preston, Ladywell Street is infamous for a chilling spectral presence capable of shifting forms—from eerie footsteps to a blood-soaked apparition known as the Bannister Doll. Once a beautiful young woman, Dolly Bannister met a tragic death at the hands of her father, a punishment for a crime she didn't commit. Now, her restless spirit seeks retribution, haunting the streets and striking fear into anyone who dares to cross her path. (The Haunting of Ladywell Street) *** In 1984, a sleepy English village became the unlikely stage for a mind-bending mystery when a schoolteacher's computer began receiving messages from a man claiming to be from 1546. As past and present collided through a BBC Micro, Ken Webster and his friends found themselves entangled in a web of Tudor English, future prophecies, and inexplicable phenomena that would challenge everything they thought they knew about time and technology. The boom of home computers and electronics in the 1970s and 1980s was as much a success of entrepreneurial endeavor and technological innovation, as it was of the blossoming worldwide supply chain. One of the company's that made it all possible was Wang Corporation and our guest today, Raymond Yang was their representative in the UK. He helped make sure that the BBC Micro got into UK schools and traveled the world securing suppliers for all manner of electronics. How did that business work? Where did his career lead after this? Raymond tells us of an amazing journey that includes not only manufacturing, but web startups and environmental education. The boys across the pond are finally ready to unveil the latest and greatest British computer - the BBC Micro. Acorn won out over the other bids and is poised to make a load of money with the BBC beginning their series educating the public on computer literacy using the new machine. But how are the games?! That's what we aim to find out! We do just that and more on this week's episode which also features Rear Guard and Stone of Sisyphus from Adventure International, War of the Worlds by Cinematronics, and Tactician by Sega!Website -https://historyofvideogamespodcast.comTwitter - https://twitter.com/HistoryofVideo1Email - historyvgpodcast@gmail.comHosts - Ben & WesMusic - Arranged and recorded by Ben
In Bolo's world, players form alliances, pilot tanks and command little green men. Original text by Steve Silberman. GlobalTalk Overview, or how to run AppleTalk over TCP/IP around the world. Gurshuran Sidhu quote at the end of this episode: “It worked across very large multi-segment networks… Apple's own corporate network [for example]. You could print on a printer in Sweden from Cupertino, and all those constructs were there [in the 1980s], on shipping products, not in a lab.” GlobalTalk hijinks: the initial hard disk image was infected with nVIR A, an AppleTalk zone named “KennyLoginsDangerZone”, “World's Fastest ImageWriter”, “We've been trying to reach you”, heresy, and of course people started playing network Spectre before I finished production of this episode. Watch things unfold in realtime: search for #globaltalk anywhere(?) in the fediverse. Stuart Cheshire talks about DNS-SD, a.k.a. Zeroconf, a.k.a. Rendezvous, a.k.a. Bonjour, with introduction by AppleTalk architect Gurshuran Sidhu! The same thing at Google with terrible audio, but without Microsoft. Stuart Cheshire's list of Bolo links from the mid-1990s. Naturally they're all dead, but archive.org has you covered in most cases. Ladmo, the Bolo brain that impressed all your nerd friends. “Acorn: A World In Pixels”, a book covering BBC Micro games, documents some early Bolo history. There are, as of this writing, only two Macintosh Bolo videos on YouTube. You should fix that. Avie Tevanian on Apple-versus-NeXT snobbery, and motivating engineers to improve TCP/IP usability.
For this week's episode, we are joined by Ali Mositi, who is the lead designer and producer of the indie video game Full Void. Not only do we get into the development of Full Void, learning about its conception, the hurdles faced, and the Evercade release, but we also have a lovely discussion on Ali's early video game experience and how he learned to make games thanks to the Commodore 64, the BBC Micro, and, of course, the Amiga. Many thanks to Ali for his time to appear on the podcast! You can find Ali on X His studio, Out of the Bit on X And find links to the store pages for Full Void below. Nintendo Switch Steam Evercade

The seminal videogame was given the manga treatment in 1999, a lot has changed since then, yet it tells an ancient form of myth that permeates all cultures and spurs on our talk today. Skip synopsis @ 6:52 Email: WeAppreciateManga@Gmail.com 123: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Story and Art by Akira Himekawa Based upon the work of Yoshiaki Koizuma, Tôru Ôsawa, Kensuke Tanabe, Yusuke Nakano and Shigeru Miyamoto Translation by John Werry, Honkyaku Center inc. and Steven “Stan!” Brown Lettering by John Hunt A young boy by the name of Link lives in the elusive kokiri forest, he feels himself to be not like the other elf like inhabitants of his home. At a certain age the Kokiri receive a guardian fairy yet link is often bullied for not having one. It is only when the tribe leader and elder of the forest falls ill that he sends the fairy Navi to Link. Link heeds the call of Navi so to help the leader of his tribe, the great Deku tree. Although Link defeats the monster residing within the Deku tree, he is unable to save the tree's life. Before it withers, Link is given one of three sacred stones, the stone of He is also told that the nightmares that plague him are visions of an impending doom and that an evil force has made its move by successfully attacking the Deku tree. Link is also told that he is born of Hylian parents, that he must go to his people and warn the princess of Hyrule, Princess Zelda. And so, Link is given a sword from his former bully, and carves a wooden shield from the remains of the Deku Tree before he sets out on his journey. Zelda tends to enjoy the company of her subjects by disguising herself as a commoner. She finds Link and sees he is not accustomed to the hustle and bustle of a town square, but they depart when shady types seek out and try to harm the girl, in her haste she drops an ocarina. Eventually Link trespasses on royal grounds and discovers that the girl whom befriended him earlier is in fact Zelda. Link returns the Ocarina that Zelda left behind and she explains to Link how the ocarina is a valuable heirloom. She tells Link of the nefarious Ganandorf, leader of the Gerudo, who she suspects of conspiracy against her father, the king. She sends Link on a journey to find other sacred stones. If Link succeeds then he will fulfil the prophecy of unlocking the temple of time, and with Zelda's help he will become the hero of time. She also explains the Triforce to Link, three magical relics that allows who ever touches them to recreate the world so that it reflects their heart, or their hatred. She believes this is what Ganondorf is seeking. Link succeeds in acquiring the stones but on his return to Hyrule, his nightmares have come true. The Kingdom is being attacked on a stormy night. Zelda flees with her bodyguard on horseback. She throws the Ocarina at Link as she is being chased by Ganondorf, whom treats Link with disregard, not knowing the power Zelda has bestowed upon the young boy. Context: · According to official sources (Hyrule Historia), ‘Ocarina of Time' is a prequel to ‘A Link to the Past' and all previous games in the franchise before 1998. ‘Skyward Sword' which was released in 2011 would replace Ocarina of Time as the new starting point in the franchise. Some games feature the same Link where as others are more so re-incarnations of Link as he appears in ‘Ocarina of Time' an example of this is ‘Wind Waker' where boys wear green when they come of age and the events of Ocarina of Time are mere legend. · The videogame crash of the 80's is often described by the legendary anecdote that Atari buried thousands of unsold E.T. cartridges out in a New Mexico desert. On another note, the videogame cartridge was invented by Jerry Lawson for the channel F game console, before Atari's console. · Nintendo's revival of the videogame industry from 1983 to 1988 saw them dominate 80% of the market. Whilst in the UK videogames were more of a cottage industry, with Sinclair's ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64 and the Amiga from Amstrad being successful. BBC Micro from Acorn was an educational device made to teach computer literacy to children, albeit it had games, it was never made to compete with Nintendo. 1990: NINTENDO and the JAPANESE SOFTWARE boom | The Money Programme | Retro Computing | BBC Archive - YouTube · Nintendo 64, stepping up to the Playstation (released 93/94) in 1996, shown 3D videogaming done right and with intellectual properties/brands that people notice and care about. Although in Japan Sony was neck and neck competing with Sega. Nintendo's innovation came from its analogue controller and high spec hardware that had a slot for upgrading RAM. However, the weakness of the Nintendo 64 was down to the manufacturing cost of software. With the cartridge format being outdated for the time. Topics: · What Zelda meant to children in the 90's and our history with the game. · In the game Link is an avatar for us as players, but does the novel take the opportunity to flesh out the character and make him his own person? · Link's popularity with girl characters seems like a heavy male power fantasy then something that has anything worthwhile to say but there is a symbolic take to this too; before Link is ready to be perceived as a capable man, he serves these girls and their affection illustrates him being tested on his growth towards manhood. In other words, a chivalrous man is a heroic one is the perceived message. Link needs to be brave to be loved, and he needs to be loved to succeed.

Shoulder pain is a common ailment, particularly among the elderly. Conditions such as rotator cuff tendinitis or rupture, subacromial impingement, frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis), and acromioclavicular joint osteoarthritis are prevalent and can significantly impact an individual's quality of life. To address this issue, two remarkable high school girls from Ireland, representing Rehabilation Nation, will showcase their groundbreaking device for shoulder and arm rehabilitation at this year's Maker Faire Rome - The European Edition. Shoulder Rehabilitation, an Innovative Device by Rehabilation Nation The project, aptly named "Shoulder Pulley Exerciser," offers an innovative solution for those suffering from soft tissue lesions in the shoulder. By strengthening and improving a range of motions in the shoulder, this device aims to provide effective rehabilitation while offering valuable feedback to both users and their physiotherapists. The shoulder, a marvel of biological engineering, is not merely a simple 'ball and socket' joint but rather a complex structure composed of four articulations, supported by an intricate arrangement of bones, muscles, and ligaments within and outside the joint capsule. Its ability to withstand heavy physical demands over an extensive range of motion makes it susceptible to various articular and peri-articular pathologies. Traditionally, treatment for adhesive capsulitis (frozen shoulder) involved range-of-motion exercises, corticosteroids, and numbing medications injected into the joint capsule. In some cases, arthroscopic surgery was necessary to alleviate the condition. However, the Shoulder Pulley Exerciser by Rehabilation Nation provides a non-invasive alternative that eliminates the need for surgery. The design and construction of this innovative device enable sufferers to engage in a range of shoulder exercises, including rotation, abduction, and flexion, all from the comfort of their own homes. The device features a sturdy rope that can be easily and securely fastened to any standard door using the provided attachment. Users can adjust the rope's length to their requirements by simply knotting it accordingly. Additionally, two easy-grip non-slip foam handles ensure that the device is not only easy to use but also comfortable. One of the notable features of this device is the integration of a microswitch into the cam mechanism. This microswitch detects each 360-degree rotation, triggering the input of a BBC Micro bit. The Microbit, programmed with six subroutines developed under the guidance of physiotherapists, facilitates increased movement and reduced pain. By modifying the pulley system and incorporating the microswitch, the Shoulder Pulley Exerciser provides real-time feedback to users and their physiotherapists, both visually and audibly. The Rehabilation Nation shoulder exerciser offers an invaluable tool for the rehabilitation process. It allows users to perform internal and external rotation exercises, effectively aiding in the recovery and strengthening of the shoulder joint. By empowering individuals to take charge of their own rehabilitation, this device promotes independence and convenience, ensuring that users can exercise at their own pace without compromising on the quality of their treatment. Rehabilation Nation's contribution to the field of shoulder rehabilitation is truly remarkable. These two young innovators from Desmond College in Limerick, Ireland, have combined their passion for technology and healthcare to create a device that has the potential to improve the lives of numerous individuals suffering from shoulder pain. To learn more about the Shoulder Pulley Exerciser and the incredible work of Rehabilation Nation, visit their website at rehabilation-nation.ie. You can also follow their journey on Twitter at @rehabnation2023. Let us applaud these young inventors and support their endeavors in the field of shoulder rehabilitation. "Dodleston Messages", a series of messages from the sixteenth century allegedly received in 1984 by author Ken Webster through a BBC Micro computer supposedly haunted by ghosts. The story was published in 1985 in the British tabloid newspaper, the Daily Mail.
Camila is super excited about a children's toy computer and then the girls chat about the BBC Computer Literacy Project from the 70s/80s. They discuss the TV programing which brought the need for it to the eyes of parliamentarians, how it built on previous literacy projects which combined TV shows with adult education curriculums, the creation of the BBC Micro computer and BBC Basic, and the state of computers in the mind of the public at the time. In 1989, a man named Ken Webster released a book titled "The Vertical Plane" in which he made a remarkable claim. He said that just a few years earlier, while living in the quaint English village of Dodleston, he began receiving messages on his BBC Micro computer. What's so strange about that you might ask? Well according to Ken, those messages were coming from a man living on the same property in the 16th century. Steve Furber is a seminal computer scientist, mathematician and hardware designer whose work includes the BBC Microcomputer and the ARM 32-bit RISC microprocessor which can be found in over 100 billion devices today.Steve studied both Maths followed by a PhD in Aerodynamics at Cambridge University before joining Herman Hauser and Chris Curry at Acorn Computers. In this wide-ranging conversation, we discuss Steve's life journey from studying maths with professors such as the famed John Conway and Sir James Lighthill to the highs and lows of building the BBC Micro and the story behind the ARM 32-bit RISC microprocessor.I thoroughly enjoyed talking to Steve and am overly excited about his SpiNNaker project which we also discuss today.Enjoy!--------------Steve Furber info / SpiNNaker info / Micro Men filmDanielle on Twitter @daniellenewnham and Instagram @daniellenewnham / Newsletter
Hello and welcome to the Danielle Newham Podcast where I interview tech founders and innovators to learn the inspiring, human stories behind the game-changing tech we use every day.I wanted to come on here quickly to wish you all a fantastic 2023 and to thank you all for being part of this podcast journey with me. I appreciate everyone who has listened and shared their favourite episodes in 2022 – truly, I couldn't do this without you all.I also wanted to thank the incredible guests I had on in 2022 from Klout founder Joe Fernandez to Dr Mary-Lou Jepsen, Jack Butcher, Rony Abovitz and many more. I was honoured to share your stories with the world. And I am looking forward to sharing more incredible inspiring stories with tech founders and innovators this year such as Steve Furber who was a principal designer for the BBC Micro computer and ARM's 32-bit microprocessor which is now in many billions of devices. But before we move into 2023, I thought I would re-share the most-listened to episode of last year which is my conversation with Jimmy Soni, author of The Founders: The Story of PayPal and the Entrepreneurs Who Shaped Silicon Valley. I think this is a great story revisit at the start of this year as it has all the elements which make up a great tech innovation – grit, hustle, immigrant entrepreneurs, many of whom have gone on to create huge waves in the world. A hugely inspiring and true story behind the well-known PayPal mafia.Enjoy!
In 1984 in Dodleston, England Ken Webster, a high school teacher living in an 18th century "fixer-upper", experienced something very strange. He and his two roommates returned home one evening from the local pub, as they approached their home they noticed a pulsing green light coming from their cottage's windows. As the entered their cottage they noticed something that completely terrified them. Their computer screen had a strange message written on it…The computer wasn't connected to any network, and no one else had been home. This was the beginning of the strange incoming messages that would be left…eventually followed by Ken's responses. Messages back and forth to someone that lived in that very home - but, in the year 1541. The past wasn't the only place messages were relayed to this BBC Micro computer. They also came from the future...the year 2109. This week on That Would Be Rad - we dive deeper into what these strange messages say, what they predict, and of course where we think they came from. We'll peel back the layers of this story to reveal other strange oddities that occurred in the house even prior to having the computer. Things like, 6 toed footprints on the floors, walls, and ceiling. Possible poltergeist activity, and much more. Was this all an elaborate hoax? Did Ken Webster and his roommates stumble upon a portal that spanned AT LEAST 3 timelines? Was this another version of the Trickster Archetype? Perhaps even one familiar to Native American lore...Mannegishi? Is this the key to the Vertical Plane? Proof that time travel exists? Press play to find out. Max took us back to his childhood, at 6, when he got his first BBC-Micro computer. We spoke about learning BASIC and C++, using manuals and documentation instead of Stackoverflow, and how he studied chemistry. Max talked about depression, how he started working in open-source, and how alternating between open-source and paying gigs set him up for working on tea.xyz nowadays. We finished brushing over tea's innovation and why you should look into it.
