Send us a textYour body has been trying to talk to you—through tight shoulders, the jaw that clicks, and the tears that show up in a hip opener. We invited somatic therapist and hypnotherapist Megan Sherer to help us translate those signals into clarity, relief, and real change. Together we explore how emotions live in the nervous system and in fascia, the connective tissue that touches every muscle, organ, and nerve. When safety and movement return, that energy releases as heat, tremor, or tears. We dig into the difference between being trauma informed and trauma trained, why certain breathwork styles can overwhelm without the right container, and where talk therapy helps—and where it stalls. Megan walks us through attachment styles without turning them into identity traps. We also connect ancient wisdom and modern science, linking meridians and qigong to fascial lines, and bring nuance to cortisol and stress physiology. Most importantly, we share a simple starting point: honor your body's basic cues. Eat when you're hungry, rest when you're tired, pee when you need to, step away when you're overloaded. That small honesty builds interoception and trust so bigger emotions feel safer to process. If you're ready to stop overriding and start listening, you'll leave with a clearer map for nervous system care, relational healing, and sustainable self-respect.If this conversation resonated, tap follow, share it with a friend, and leave a five-star review. From 18th century London to the promise of a global cure: the 200-year history of Parkinson's disease. To mark the release of our 'Ask the MD' conversation with The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, and to welcome a new influx of listeners, we're sharing one of our very first episodes, first aired in August 2024. Watch our full 'Ask the MD' interview, focused on lifestyle strategies for boosting brain health, on the foundation's website: https://www.michaeljfox.org/news/lifestyle-strategies-boost-brain-health-ask-md-video Parkinson's, a neurodegenerative disorder most commonly characterized by tremors and other motor symptoms, is so complex, many medical professionals are starting to classify it as a group of diseases, rather than a single disease. In this episode, we explain those complexities, including: • The motor symptoms (e.g. cogwheel rigidity, bradykinesia) and non-motor symptoms (e.g. depression, sleep disorders) • How the industrial revolution may have brought about environmental factors which contribute to Parkinson's • The differences and similarities between Parkinson's and other neurodegenerative diseases, like Alzheimer's • How Parkinson's manifests in our brains • Why one nurse was able to detect Parkinson's through smell • The neurogenetics of Parkinson's, and the ethical quandaries of evolving genetic technology • Why lifestyle — nutrition, exercise, etc. — is so key to preventing and managing Parkinson's Joining us for this extensive conversation are three incredible guests: • Dr. Rachel Dolhun, Senior Vice President of Medical Communications at The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research • Dr. Michael Okun, evolutionary biologist, movement disorders specialist, and Director of the Norman Fixel Institute for Neurological Diseases • Dr. Matthew Farrer, neurogenetics expert and Professor Of Neurology at the University of Florida 'Your Brain On' is hosted by neurologists, scientists, and public health advocates Ayesha and Dean Sherzai. Movie of the Year: 1999The Sixth Sense (feat. Jay Sherer!)Chilling Classics and Narrative Genius in The Sixth SenseIn this spine-tingling episode of Movie of the Year, the Taste Buds turn their third eyes toward M. Night Shyamalan's unforgettable thriller, The Sixth Sense. Released in 1999, this film didn't just scare audiences—it redefined what moviegoers expected from psychological thrillers and suspenseful ghost stories. The Taste Buds examine what made The Sixth Sense an instant classic and how it continues to haunt and inspire audiences to this day.The Sixth Sense's Twist Ending: Spoiler Alert (Sort Of)You know the twist—but how did we get there? The Taste Buds break down the legendary ending of The Sixth Sense, discussing how Shyamalan masterfully planted clues throughout the film. This segment explores how the reveal reshaped the entire narrative, altered how we engage with movies, and elevated twist endings to a pop culture staple. It's one of the most talked-about twist endings in cinematic history, and for good reason.Death and Horror in The Sixth Sense: What Scares Us MostAt its core, The Sixth Sense is a meditation on death, grief, and unresolved trauma. The Taste Buds explore how the film uses horror to probe deeper emotional truths, crafting scares not from jump cuts alone, but from the deeply human fear of being unseen and unheard. This is horror with heart—and it hits hard, echoing themes found in other 1999 horror films like The Blair Witch Project. The Sixth Sense Performances: Toni Collette Deserved an OscarBeyond its eerie mood and smart script, The Sixth Sense shines thanks to stunning performances. Haley Joel Osment delivers one of the most iconic child performances in movie history, and Bruce Willis brings a quiet depth to a role that surprises in more ways than one. The Taste Buds also spotlight Toni Collette's heartbreaking turn as a mother grappling with the unknown. The performances anchor the film's emotional weight and elevate the ghost story to something transcendent.Guest Panelist Jay Sherer: Talking Story with The Story GeeksThis week's episode features special guest Jay Sherer, host of The Story Geeks Podcast. Jay brings his storytelling expertise and love for genre film to help unpack why The Sixth Sense is more than just a horror movie—it's a masterclass in character, pacing, and emotional resonance. Jay also draws fascinating comparisons to other narrative-driven films, such as Unbreakable and Signs.Bonus Segment: Enter Fight ClubIn a special bonus segment, the Taste Buds take on another 1999 mind-bender: Fight Club. What connects Fight Club and The Sixth Sense beyond their jaw-dropping endings? The Taste Buds compare their thematic undercurrents, narrative structures, and cultural impacts, offering fresh perspectives on how these two films reflect the anxieties of the late 1990s. It's a one-two punch of psychological cinema that still packs a wallop.FAQ About The Sixth Sense Podcast EpisodeWho is Jay Sherer?Jay Sherer is the host of The Story Geeks Podcast, a show that dives deep into the themes and structure of genre storytelling. Why is The Sixth Sense still relevant today? Its emotional core, brilliant performances, and unforgettable twist make it a timeless classic that continues to inspire filmmakers.Final Thoughts: We See Greatness in The Sixth SenseWhether you're revisiting The Sixth Sense for the first time in years or analyzing its ghostly layers for the hundredth time, this episode of Movie of the Year delivers sharp analysis, lively discussion, and plenty of...
What happens when a controlling husband not only silences his wife — but continues to terrorize her loved ones, even from behind bars?By the end of September 1990, 26-year-old Microsoft employee and young mother Jami Sue Hagel Sherer had vanished from Redmond, Washington. Her family, friends, and coworkers searched desperately for answers, and Microsoft even posted a reward to help locate her.But while the community scoured the area for Jami, her husband, Steve Sherer, showed little interest in helping. Just days after her disappearance, he became preoccupied with having his car detailed, staged a suicide attempt, and eventually threatened investigators and prosecutors as the case against him began to build. In Part Two, we follow the years-long investigation that finally brought Steve Sherer to justice. From the incriminating evidence found in his possession to the testimony that unraveled his story, prosecutors built a case strong enough to convict Steve of Jami's murder — even without her body. But the story didn't end with his 60-year sentence. Even behind bars, Steve wasn't finished. What he plotted from prison would leave investigators stunned — and Jami's family in even greater danger.Listen now to Part Two of this haunting case as we uncover the investigation, trial, and the shocking twist that proved Steve Sherer's reign of terror didn't end with his conviction.Visit our website! You can be successful, self-aware, and high-functioning—and still completely lose yourself in a relationship. In this episode of The Divorce Revolution Podcast, I'm joined by integrative therapist and somatic practitioner Megan Sherer for a deeply honest conversation about how even the most self-sufficient women can unconsciously self-abandon when love is on the line. We unpack how nervous system conditioning, attachment styles, and childhood trauma shape our romantic patterns and why it's so hard to walk away from someone who feels like home, even when they aren't safe for your healing. If you've been losing yourself in relationships that require you to shrink, fix, or prove your worth, this episode is for you. What happens when a picture-perfect life hides a dangerous secret — and a young mother suddenly vanishes? In September 1990, 26-year-old Jami Sue Hagel Sherer vanished without a trace from Redmond, Washington — leaving behind her young son, her close-knit family, and a trail of unsettling questions.Jami's life appeared perfect: a promising career at Microsoft, a new family home, and a bright future ahead. But behind the façade was a much darker reality — a volatile marriage to her controlling husband, Steve Sherer, a man with an explosive temper, a documented history of domestic violence and drug abuse, and a jealous streak that left Jami constantly on edge.In Part One, we trace Jami's life leading up to her disappearance: her seemingly idyllic upbringing, the escalating turmoil in her marriage, and the final moments before she told Steve, “It's over. I want a divorce.”Was that the breaking point that led to her vanishing — or did Steve's jealousy drive events to a deadly conclusion?Listen now to Part One of this haunting two-part case — and stay tuned for Part Two, where we dive into the investigation, Steve Sherer's shocking behavior in the aftermath, and the resolution that finally brought answers for Jami's loved ones.Visit our website!Find us on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Patreon, & more! Jennifer Sherer and Nina Mast from the Economic Policy Institute have authored an article that insists lawmakers must act to strengthen standards, not erode the existing minimal standards designed to safeguard children from exploitation. They share insights into why weakening child labor protections could have detrimental effects on the middle class and the overall economy. Nina Mast is an economic analyst for the Economic Analysis and Research Network (EARN) at EPI. She also worked on issue campaigns at The Hub Project and efforts to advance a progressive economic worldview at the Groundwork Collaborative. Jennifer Sherer is the director of the Economic Analysis and Research Network (EARN) State Worker Power Initiative. Her work focuses on expanding the ability of working people to achieve racial, gender, and economic justice through organizing, collective bargaining, and public policies that promote worker voice.
