In this powerful message, "A MasterClass in Prayer," Pastor Derek Holmes unpacks Jesus’ response to one of the most profound requests ever made: “Lord, teach us to pray” (Luke 11:1-13). What unfolds is not just a model for prayer, but a window into the very heart of God. Pastor Derek reminds us that prayer isn’t merely a transaction—about getting what we want from God—but a transformation, where we are drawn closer to the Father’s will and presence. Whether you’re new to prayer or seeking a deeper connection with God, this episode invites you to reimagine prayer as a life-shaping relationship, not a religious ritual.

In our text, God gives us a picture of how He views us and what He wants our relationship with Him to be. Prayer is a vehicle to connect with God, communicate with Him, and develop relationships. In the first part of His answer, Jesus gives a pattern and a model of how to make that connection in the form of the Lord's prayer. Jesus goes on in the second part of his answer to give the example of a man waking his neighbor up in the middle of the night. The story's point is that He responds to the persistence of our asking and to illustrate that if we in our humanity will react to a friend's need, how much more will God respond to ours? Finally, He gives several examples of children asking for food and asks which of us would give them something dangerous. All of this illustrates God's love for us through human examples. If we love our children as we do, how much more is God's capacity to love His creation? He was moving them from the lesser to the greater.

Are we taught by Jesus parable to keep pestering or asking God for what we need until He finally comes around and grants us our prayer? Well a wrong understanding of scripture will lead to a wrong application and will find us following after wrong teaching. As we look at the the friend who comes at midnight to ask bread we will look to see what is Jesus teaching us to do in prayer.

One of the most obvious habits that Jesus had was prayer. Jesus was always praying! How do we grow healthy prayer habits in our lives? How do we pray for others like Jesus did?

According to Anne Lamott, when Americans tend to pray, they tend to pray three things: (1) thank you, thank you, thank you, (2) help me, help me, help me, and (3) I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. But what if there's more to prayer than that? And what if it actually matters WHO you're talking to? In this message, Pastor Max gives some practical advice on practicing praying to God.

Sunday PM Sermon
In this sermon Pastor Keith explains how God calls His people to be persistent in prayer using the prayer pattern that Jesus gave to His disciples, known as The Lord's Prayer. In Luke Jesus taught this way of praying to a disciple who asked Him to teach Him how to pray. If you desire to learn how to pray then you would do well to ask the Lord to teach you and then use the prayer pattern that He gave us in Luke 11 and Matthew 6.
Prayer is the tool that keeps us close to our Heavenly Father. How we view our Heavenly Father determines the intimacy we have with Him through prayer.
Pastor Joe continues with the Parables.
