In this episode I talk with Arlene Goldbard about her new book that I think takes on a quiet but consequential democratic problem: how, in unstable times, the hunger for certainty can slide into surrender—of discernment, of agency, and responsibility.Rather than offering answers or heroes, her book The Intercessor uses story to explore how people learn to stay in relationship, inquiry, and ethical choice without handing their power over to charismatic leaders, rigid belief systems, or the promise of spiritual or political shortcuts. In this conversation, we explore three deeply relevant themes:Intercession as a practice of discernment, and learning how to listen without disappearing yourself in the process. How artists and cultural workers can function as bridges , helping communities resist the pull toward false certainty. And repair as a practiced skill, not an abstract ideal, but rather personal, communal, and spiritual repair that only happens when people remain accountable to one another. You're right to call that out. No reason to shrink the ecosystem. Here it is restored—full cast, fuller descriptions, URLs embedded in the titles, and organized by the four categories you've been using.Notable MentionsPeopleArlene Goldbard: Cultural critic, novelist, painter, and longtime leader in community-based arts. Author of The Intercessor and In the Camp of Angels of Freedom. Her work bridges spiritual inquiry, democratic practice, and cultural organizing.Rabbi Arthur Waskow: Founder of The Shalom Center and a central prophetic voice in Jewish Renewal. A pioneer in linking Jewish spiritual practice with social justice, environmental activism, and interfaith organizing.Rabbi David Wolfe-Blank: Influential Jewish Renewal teacher known for his mystical depth and pedagogical clarity. A formative guide for many Renewal leaders, including Goldbard.Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi: Founder of the Jewish Renewal movement. Brought Hasidic mysticism, experimentation, and interspiritual dialogue into contemporary Jewish life.Paulo Freire: Brazilian educator and author of Pedagogy of the Oppressed. The church is called to be a conduit of grace, not a cul-de-sac that keeps God's blessings to itself. From Abraham's promise that all nations would be blessed through him to Israel's calling as a priestly nation, God's plan has always been missional. Today, the church fulfills Israel's original mission to reach every nation, tribe, and tongue. As believers, we are not merely forgiven but ordained as priests with three key responsibilities: intercession, representation, and witness. Living missionally means being ambassadors for Christ in everyday situations, from helping strangers to supporting foster care and participating in global outreach. We are gathering not to survive the culture but to be sent into it as instruments of God's Kingdom expansion.Support the show
The angels belong to Christ as they were made through him and for him, and he has made them messengers of his saving plan. We learn that angels have been present throughout the history of salvation, and the life of Christ is surrounded by the adoration and service of angels. Fr. Mike explains how in the liturgy, we join the angels in praising God, and all of human life is surrounded by angels' care and protection. He reminds us that all angels and saints have the power to intercede for us before God. Today's readings are Catechism paragraphs 331-336. This episode has been found to be in conformity with the Catechism by the Institute on the Catechism, under the Subcommittee on the Catechism, USCCB. The art of intercession is beyond our traditional concept of prayer. It calls us into a deep and profound comprehension of a sacrificial way of lifestyle that collaborates with the forces of heaven to bring about reformation and transformation to society. It flows from a selfless heart, fully and wholly devoted to God's kingdom purposes and prophetic mandate for man and creation. When we intercede, we step into a sacred calling, standing in the gap in relentless love and courage, aligning earthly realities with the divine will to shift the course of human affairs for individuals, communities, and entire nations. At its core, intercession is an act of love; it's an intentional, Spirit-led intervention on behalf of others. It's the moment when a human heart aligns with God's heart, pleading for His mercy, justice, and purposes to manifest in the earth. Whether it's for a family member, a city, or an entire nation, intercession carries the weight of heaven's redemptive plan. The Bible is filled with examples of intercessors who changed the course of history through their relentless, heartfelt prayers: Daniel, Nehemiah, Abraham, Moses, and countless others who stood before God on behalf of broken people and wayward nations.Consider Daniel's story in Babylon (Daniel 10). From the moment he began to pray, God dispatched an answer, but a spiritual adversary, the prince of Persia, hindered the response for 21 days. Daniel's persistence in prayer, coupled with angelic intervention, ultimately broke through the resistance. This account reveals a critical truth: intercession is not just a spiritual exercise; it's a confrontation with unseen forces that seek to oppose God's will. It requires tenacity, spiritual insight, and a deep understanding of the agencies at play in the spiritual realm.Intercession is heaven's ordained mechanism for transformation. If a nation is to experience revival, renewal, or restoration, it begins with a people who understand the ministry of intercession. These intercessors are the forerunners of change, the ones who labor in prayer to align earthly realities with heaven's purposes. But to be effective, intercession demands more than fervent prayers; it requires a clear understanding of the spiritual dynamics involved and a heart fully surrendered to God's redemptive plan.
The Prayer of Intercession
Pastor Ross speaks from Luke
The Movements of Intercession Isaiah 63
The Prophet is a fine example of how we should pray, coming to God confessing our sins, acknowledging we've been wrong and praying according to His word. It shows he was as tudent of the Bible watch and taking heed to the time of fulfillment of God's prophecy about what would happen when they violated His word and what the ppunish would be. It was inclusive of himself laso, even though there's no reported sin of his in the Bible ( Ezekiel 14:14-20 ).

This teaching explores the profound themes of intercessory prayer, emphasizing its roots in intimacy with Jesus, the partnership it fosters with God, and the importance of asking for the kingdom of God. Matthew discusses how intercession is not just about personal requests but about aligning with God's desires and purposes, highlighting the relational aspect of prayer. He also delves into the concept of the kingdom of God, explaining its present and future dimensions, and how every prayer of intercession ultimately seeks to bring about God's kingdom on earth.

“When Mercy No Longer Hides Rebellion”Teacher: Kerry BattleAhava ~ Love AssemblyThis Torah-based teaching examines Psalms 106 and 107 as covenant court records documenting Israel's response to law already given.Psalm 106 records repeated rebellion under mercy.Psalm 107 records restoration after affliction. These Psalms do not introduce new instruction. They expose how Israel behaved after instruction was made plain. This lesson moves from covenant indictment to covenant restoration and concludes with wisdom that separates obedience from presumption. This is not encouragement. This is accountability.WHAT WE COVER IN THIS MESSAGE1. Praise Under Law, Not EmotionPsalm 106:1–5Israel praises Yahuah, but blessing is defined by obedience, not expression. Covenant favor is requested, not assumed. Worship is governed by righteousness.2. Deliverance Without ApprovalPsalm 106:6–12Israel is delivered for Yahuah's Name's sake, not because of righteousness. Mercy reveals Yahuah's character, not Israel's standing.3. Desire, Authority, and Internal JudgmentPsalm 106:13–18Unsubmitted desire exposes rejection of counsel. Authority is challenged. Judgment follows. Appetite without restraint produces leanness of soul.4. Intercession Delays Judgment, It Does Not Redefine ObediencePsalm 106:19–23Idolatry provokes destruction. Intercession intervenes. Judgment is delayed, not dismissed. Survival does not equal approval.5. Fear Hardened Into RefusalPsalm 106:24–27Unbelief becomes rebellion. Delay becomes refusal. Judgment is sworn when trust is rejected repeatedly.6. Action That Preserves Life and Cycles That Destroy ItPsalm 106:28–43Righteous action halts death. Repeated compromise sustains cycles. Mercy returns, rebellion repeats.7. Restoration Under GovernancePsalm 107:1–42Those delivered must testify, give thanks, and change conduct. Crying out without transformation perpetuates distress. Increase tests obedience.8. Wisdom Separates After ClarityPsalm 107:43Hearing without obedience now establishes guilt. Wisdom closes the record.WHY THIS MESSAGE MATTERSMercy has been mistaken for approval.Deliverance has been used to excuse disobedience.Hearing has replaced obedience.Psalms 106 and 107 correct this disorder. These Psalms establish that mercy increases responsibility, intercession delays judgment without redefining obedience, and continued rebellion after clarity is no longer ignorance but refusal.Covenant memory does not comfort. It testifies.SCRIPTURE REFERENCES FOR STUDYPsalms 106–107Exodus 32; Exodus 34Numbers 11; Numbers 14; Numbers 16; Numbers 25Deuteronomy 1; Deuteronomy 8; Deuteronomy 10; Deuteronomy 30Judges 2Proverbs 11; Proverbs 13; Proverbs 24; Proverbs 26Ecclesiastes 3Ezekiel 18; Ezekiel 22; Ezekiel 33Isaiah 43; Isaiah 55Matthew 7John 5Romans 9; Romans 13Galatians 6Hebrews 3; Hebrews 10James 1Jude 1Every section is taught precept upon precept.ABOUT AHAVA ~ LOVE ASSEMBLYWe teach the Pure Word of Yahuah. No religion. No tradition. No compromise. Our teaching follows the Sovereign Blueprint:Law | Precept | Example | Wisdom | Understanding | Prudence | Conviction | Fruit of the Ruach | Final Heart CheckSUPPORT THE WORK — GIVE VIA ZELLEZelle QR at: ahavaloveministry.comZelle only.No CashApp.No PayPal.FINAL WORDYahuah remembers His covenant.Rebellion is recorded.Mercy opens a path of return.Wisdom establishes separation.Psalms 106 and 107 govern accountability after mercy has been revealed.Final Heart Check:Now that covenant clarity has been given, will your response show obedience and adjustment, or will it repeat what has already been judged?

This week, Catherine Segars, host of the Christian Parent, Crazy World podcast, joins Jaime for a riveting discussion on the theology of intercession based on Watchman Nee’s classic book, Let Us Pray. In this joint episode, Catherine unpacks the stunning concept that God often waits for His people to pray before He acts. She explains the "Train Track" analogy—how God’s will is the locomotive, but our prayers lay the rails for His power to move on earth. Catherine also shares her dramatic personal testimony of warring in prayer for her miracle children in her 40s. What does it really mean to pray the way Jesus taught us to pray? In this message, we walk through the Lord's Prayer and discover a powerful pattern for intercession. Learn how putting the Father first shapes the way we pray for our needs, our struggles, and our daily lives—and how prayer aligns us with God's kingdom, power, and glory.
Gen. 18:22–33 Job 9:28–35 John 17:20–26 Heb. 7:23–28 Some say doctrine doesn't matter. It's all about devotion to God. But you have to know who God is and what He says about Himself in order to be devoted to Him—and that's what doctrine is. The doctrine of Christ's intercession shows this perfectly. In this message, we learn how to overcome the fears we have in approaching by through incarnation, mediation, and intercession of our faithful High Priest, Jesus Christ.
The readings for this homily: https://bible.usccb.org/bible/readings/011626.cfmFather Chris Alar, MIC, draws us into the dramatic Gospel scene of the paralytic lowered before Jesus and reveals why this passage speaks so clearly of the Sacraments of the Church. What Jesus responds to first is not the man's condition, but faith — specifically, the faith of those carrying him. “When Jesus saw their faith” (Mk 2:5; NABRE), He forgives sins before He heals the body. This moment reveals something essential about Catholic belief. Faith is never completely private. We carry one another to Christ through intercessory prayer, just as parents bring children to Baptism and the Church brings sinners to Confession. The paralytic is helpless, yet forgiveness is granted because of the faith of others — an image that mirrors infant Baptism, where grace is given through the faith of parents and godparents. Sin is wiped away, not by personal achievement, but by Christ's mercy working through His Church.Jesus exposes the deeper paralysis beneath the physical one: sin. Before restoring strength to the man's limbs, He restores communion with God. This points directly to the Sacrament of Confession, where Christ continues His ministry of forgiveness through priests acting by His authority: “Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them” (Jn 20:23; NABRE). Forgiveness is not the end — it demands a response. Christ commands the man to rise. Mercy empowers transformation.Father Chris challenges us to ask: After Confession, do we stay down, or do we get up? Repentance is not merely sorrow; it is conversion, transformation. The mat that once held us becomes a witness to what God has healed. Christ frees us so that we may walk — changed, restored, and sent forth. To deepen your understanding of Confession and Baptism, explore Understanding the Sacraments at ShopMercy.org. ★ Support this podcast ★

In a culture that is deeply spiritual but often wary of organized religion, we recognize that prayer can easily become detached from real presence and action. Drawing on Paul's letter to the Romans in Chapter 8, we are invited to see intercessory prayer as more than words—it is a way of standing with others in their pain and bringing that pain before God. We see this calling fulfilled in Jesus Christ, the true mediator who intercedes for us and restores humanity's original vocation.
Pastor Gabriel Hughes preaches from Romans 8:26-27, understanding what the Scripture means when it says the Spirit intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. Visit providencecasagrande.com for more info about our church!
In this powerful message, Pastor Douglas calls the church beyond routine, surface-level prayer and into a life of true intercession. Preaching from a place of lived experience, he reminds us that fasting and prayer are often met with resistance—not because they are ineffective, but because they are effective. Intercession is not reserved for the “extra-spiritual”; it is the calling of every disciple who follows Jesus. To follow Christ is to do what He did—to stand in the gap, to contend for others, and to come before God on behalf of the lost, the hurting, and the broken. Prayer, Pastor Douglas teaches, is not meant to be mechanical or obligatory, but fueled by intimacy, surrender, and perseverance.Drawing from biblical examples like Moses and deeply personal stories, Pastor Douglas challenges us to let our hearts be moved again. True intercession flows from love—a love so real it produces burden, compassion, and even tears. He invites the church to ask God for a heart that breaks for what breaks His, and for the “gift of tears” that awakens passionate, Spirit-led prayer. At its core, intercession is rooted in friendship with God, where prayer becomes dialogue, not duty. This sermon is a clear call to allow God to interrupt our lives, deepen our love for others, and use us as vessels of His power and mercy in a world desperate for hope. For more on LifePoint Church go to lifepointaz.com Check out our merch store https://lifepointaz-shop.fourthwall.comFind all our links in one easy spot https://linktr.ee/lifepointaz Follow us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/lifepointaz Follow us on Instagram https://www.instagram.com/lifepointchurchaz/

The Bible warns us to stay focused on Scripture so that we can avoid stumbling into sin. God may use us to intercede on someone else's behalf and help draw them to spiritual safety. Ultimately the first gap that must be crossed is the one between ourselves and God and that is only done through the cross of Jesus Christ.

We look at two more forms of prayer: intercession and thanksgiving. Fr. Mike emphasizes that in the age of the Church, intercession, or asking on behalf of another, is participating in Christ's mediation. He also emphasizes that in all things we must give thanks, even in times of suffering and grief. Today's readings are Catechism paragraphs 2634-2638.
