Religious prayer on behalf of others

In this message, Pastor Dehavilland unpacks Jesus' teaching on the Lord's Prayer, revealing that intercession is more than bringing requests before God. It's learning to pray from God's heart, aligning our lives with His will, and becoming people who stand in the gap for others. As you journey through Matthew 6, you'll discover that prayer isn't just something we do—it's an invitation into deeper intimacy with the Father and participation in His Kingdom on the earth. Whether you're new to prayer or have been walking with the Lord for years, this message will challenge, encourage, and equip you to grow in a lifestyle of powerful, Spirit-led intercession.
The art of intercession is beyond our traditional concept of prayer. It calls us into a deep and profound comprehension of a sacrificial way of lifestyle that collaborates with the forces of heaven to bring about reformation and transformation to society. It flows from a selfless heart, fully and wholly devoted to God's kingdom purposes and prophetic mandate for man and creation. When we intercede, we step into a sacred calling, standing in the gap in relentless love and courage, aligning earthly realities with the divine will to shift the course of human affairs for individuals, communities, and entire nations. At its core, intercession is an act of love; it's an intentional, Spirit-led intervention on behalf of others. It's the moment when a human heart aligns with God's heart, pleading for His mercy, justice, and purposes to manifest in the earth. Whether it's for a family member, a city, or an entire nation, intercession carries the weight of heaven's redemptive plan. The Bible is filled with examples of intercessors who changed the course of history through their relentless, heartfelt prayers: Daniel, Nehemiah, Abraham, Moses, and countless others who stood before God on behalf of broken people and wayward nations.Consider Daniel's story in Babylon (Daniel 10). From the moment he began to pray, God dispatched an answer, but a spiritual adversary, the prince of Persia, hindered the response for 21 days. Daniel's persistence in prayer, coupled with angelic intervention, ultimately broke through the resistance. This account reveals a critical truth: intercession is not just a spiritual exercise; it's a confrontation with unseen forces that seek to oppose God's will. It requires tenacity, spiritual insight, and a deep understanding of the agencies at play in the spiritual realm.Intercession is heaven's ordained mechanism for transformation. If a nation is to experience revival, renewal, or restoration, it begins with a people who understand the ministry of intercession. These intercessors are the forerunners of change, the ones who labor in prayer to align earthly realities with heaven's purposes. But to be effective, intercession demands more than fervent prayers; it requires a clear understanding of the spiritual dynamics involved and a heart fully surrendered to God's redemptive plan.
Pastor Russell Johnson opened in Romans 8:26-28 with a memory from his years as a young youth pastor in Winnsboro, when a girl in his ministry lost her grandfather and met him in the hospital hallway, screaming and without words. Pastor Russell said those speechless moments are exactly where we experience the active presence of God. Our trouble in prayer is a content problem rather than a technique problem: we do not know what to ask for, and Paul includes himself in that weakness. The word Paul chooses describes physical frailty, an inherent limitation rather than a moral failure. Romans 8 records three groans: creation groaning under futility, believers groaning as we wait for the redemption of our bodies, and the Spirit Himself groaning too deep for words. These are labor pains, not death pains. The Spirit takes our stumbling prayers and pleads our case before the Father, while Christ intercedes at His right hand. Because the Father searches hearts and knows the mind of the Spirit, our prayers cannot arrive garbled. Pastor Russell closed with David in Psalm 139, who moved from being searched to inviting the search, and with an invitation into the Vision 2030 season of prayer and fasting.

Prayer Moment 4 of 4 in JulyPrayer for Deeper PrayerEntering His Presence (Outer Court): Pray that believers across the Buddhist world will begin each day with thanksgiving and praise, moving beyond routine and into genuine worship (Psalm 100:4).Cleansing and the Word (Inner Court): Pray that Christians will pursue daily renewal through honest reflection, confession, and fresh time in God's Word, so they are pure and ready for the work He has called them to (Psalm 51:10; Psalm 119:105).Intercession in the Holy of Holies: Pray that a spirit of deep intercession will rise among God's people, and that they will move beyond their own requests and stand in the gap for the millions of Buddhists who do not yet know Jesus (Ezekiel 22:30; 1 Timothy 2:1).
Teaching from 1 Timothy 2:1–8, Ryan Moore explains that prayer is learning to live with a continual awareness that God is present and available. Prayer reshapes what matters to us, gives us access to God through Jesus rather than our own achievement, and changes our hearts before it changes our circumstances. October 15, 2022 - Inspired by J.C. Ryle's treatise on Prayer. Way back in season 6 of our podcast, we took an extended look at “A Call to Prayer” by J. C. Ryle; those episodes turned out to be some of our most popular. For the next few days, we want to revisit a sampling of those episodes. If you find them encouraging, as I do, this review might spur you back to our 2022 and 2023 episodes to hear everything Pastor Ryle has to say about our call to prayer. Thank you for listening. Drop July 20, 2026We truncated our introduction for the last half of our October episodes. Our shorter introduction ends at the 3:18 mark if you would like to skip to that mark. This way, you have less to wade through. But this I do say, that not praying is a clear proof that a man is not yet a true Christian. He cannot really feel his sins. He cannot love God. He cannot feel himself a debtor to Christ. He cannot long after holiness. He cannot desire heaven. He has yet to be born again. He has “yet to be made a new creature. He may boast confidently of election, grace, faith, hope, and knowledge, and deceive ignorant people. But you may rest assured it is all vain talk if he does not pray.”Subtly woven into this paragraph are the four main elements of prayer, Confession, Worship, Thanksgiving, and Intercession. These are undeniable marks of a heart saved by grace and one that is longing for knowledge of the Savior.Indeed it was David's fellowship with the God of his salvation that made him confess:Psalm 27:13I would have despaired unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the LORD In the land of the living. 14 Wait for the LORD; Be strong, and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for the LORD.Even in the best of times, God's people need strength, courage, and patience. Rev. Obeng highlights the Syrophoenician woman's desperate plea for her daughter to teach us about intercession. While order in prayer matters, raw faith matters more. You don't need complex theology or perfect protocols to intercede for your children. Sometimes, the most powerful, persistent prayer is simply, "Lord, help!"

The Biblical Office of the Evangelist: Restoring God's Harvesters for the Last Days | KIB 539 Kingdom Intelligence Briefing Description The Church desperately needs to rediscover the biblical office of the evangelist. In Episode 539 of the Kingdom Intelligence Briefing, Dr. Michael Lake continues his series on the biblical Fivefold Ministry by examining what Scripture actually teaches about the office of the evangelist. Far removed from modern celebrity culture and emotional revivalism, the true evangelist is a herald of God's Kingdom who faithfully proclaims the Gospel, calls sinners to repentance, equips believers for soul-winning, and establishes disciples for Christ. Mary Lou Lake begins this episode by sharing an encouraging word on God's promise to quicken His people (Romans 8:11), praying for healing, restoration, renewed strength, and spiritual refreshing for the remnant. She also discusses the importance of strategic prayer for our nation, including praying over spiritual strongholds influencing Washington, D.C. Dr. Lake then explores the biblical foundations of the evangelist through the ministries of Noah, Jonah, Isaiah, John the Baptist, Philip, Timothy, and ultimately Jesus Himself. This study challenges many modern assumptions while calling believers back to authentic New Testament ministry built upon repentance, discipleship, holiness, and covenant faithfulness. This message is an important continuation of our Fivefold Ministry series and serves as a call for God to raise up true evangelists who will prepare the harvest before the return of Christ. The Bible gives us significant counsel about how to treat sin and sinners -- especially sin by brethren or former brethren. Unfortunately, it is rarely heeded, and this leads to a slew of unintended consequences. Let's see what the Bible tells us in regard to this phrase.Proverbs 17:9 KJVHe that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth very friends.1 Peter 4:7-8 KJVBut the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer. And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.James 5:19-20 KJVBrethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him; Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.Related Podcasts:— Unto Whom Much is Given— The Law of Faith— The Law and Grace— What of Works?— Missing the Mark— Faith and the Christian Experience— Obedience is the Consequence, not the Cause— Search Me, O God— Forgiveness is Our Solemn Duty— Beware Self-Righteousness— Godly Sorrow, True Repentance— Why Do We Seek Wisdom?— Having the Right PerspectiveRelated Podcasts at TrueWisdom:— Joseph and His Conflicts— Squandered Blessings— Grace, Grace, and More GraceText UsSupport the showSend questions or comments to: BibleQuestions@ASBzone.comThe Key Principles of Effective Bible Study is a resource which outlines core concepts shown in the Scriptures that will help you to better understand many Biblical themes and doctrines. Listen in as we continue our series on norms in the early church according to the book of Acts. The filling of the Holy Spirit is a prominent theme in the early church and the advance of the gospel. In this episode, we share insights from Acts into how to be filled with the Spirit. Spirit-filling is mentioned at least 10 times in Acts. These instances fall into two categories: - A general character trait about a person. Examples: The 7 chosen to serve (Acts 6:3-5); Stephen (Acts 6:8); Barnabas (Acts 11:23-24). - A special filling at a specific moment in time that resulted in special power – often boldness in gospel proclamation. Examples: *Acts 2- Believers spoke in tongues, testifying to mighty acts of God; 3000 saved.*Acts 4:8-12- Peter, filled with the Spirit, preaches with boldness. *Acts 4:29-31- All believers praying for boldness and signs and wonders; place shaken and they were all filled with Spirit and continued to speak the word with boldness. *Acts 7:55- Stephen, full of Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God. *Acts 13:9- Paul and Barnabas on Cyprus during the first missionary journey, proclaiming the word of God, and this magician/false prophet was opposing them and trying to keep the proconsul from believing. Paul made Elymas blind, resulting in the proconsul believing when he saw what occurred. *Acts 13:52- Disciples filled with joy and Holy Spirit. -Eph. 5:18 – “Do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit.” Books Referenced: The Ministry of Intercession by Andrew Murray. The Baptism and Gifts of the Spirit by D. Dr. Michael Brown teaches on the power of intercession — prayer that presses in and stands in the gap for others. From the Hebrew word maphgia to the example of Jesus, Paul, and the Holy Spirit's groanings within us, he unpacks what it means to identify with those we're praying for, carry the weight of their need, and contend in authority for breakthrough.
Heaven is not about a place but a person, whose presence makes everything paradise; so, He must be our priority here if we want to be there. Think about it: If you carry the presence of the Person who makes Paradise what it is, would you say your life reflects Heaven?

Justice and mercy can feel like they pull in opposite directions, but Genesis 18 shows us a God who holds both together without contradiction. When God visits Abraham on His way to Sodom, nothing about that visit is accidental. He shares a meal, reaffirms His promise, and draws Abraham into a conversation about what He is about to do. Abraham never argues that Sodom is innocent. He knows better. Instead, he intercedes for any righteous people who might be there, and in doing so, he models what it looks like to bring our deepest concerns before God in honest conversation.Scripture is clear that every person falls short of God's standard, and that shortfall is not a minor infraction. Replacing God with yourself as the center of your life is, at its core, treason against the rightful King of everything. But the same passage in Romans that declares everyone guilty also declares that justification is available as a gift through Christ. Jesus is described as the propitiation, the mercy seat, the place where the sacrifice is made. He absorbed the penalty so that God could be both just and the justifier of those who trust in Him. That is not a loophole. That is the cross. The faith this calls for goes all the way to the center of a person and reorients everything. Abraham is the pattern. He believed God's promise when it made no earthly sense, and it was counted to him as righteousness. God described His relationship with Abraham using the Hebrew word yada, a word of deep, intimate knowing, the same word used for the closest human bond. Jesus echoes this in John 15, calling His followers friends rather than servants. God does not want mere compliance. He wants closeness. And the primary way that closeness is built is through prayer, through showing up in conversation with God day after day, bringing questions, fears, and confusion, and learning through that process who He actually is. Abraham stopped negotiating at ten not because he ran out of arguments, but because he had learned enough about God to trust Him with the rest.

Welcome to the Influence Podcast! I'm George P. Wood, executive editor of Influence magazine and your host. Joe Oden writes the following in his new book, Empowered to Pray: In an hour when many leaders are fixated on numerical growth, how to accommodate and make seekers feel comfortable, leadership strategies, higher education, and enhanced communications, we observe that well-intended leaders are trying to advance the kingdom of God in their own strength. However, when we look at the ministry of Jesus and the early church, we find a different path forward. … Their foundation was prayer, and everything they did originated from their private and corporate devotions. In this episode of the Influence Podcast, I talk to Oden about the importance of prayer for Christian ministry, as well how the Lord himself teaches us to pray. Oden is an evangelist, ordained Assemblies of God minister, and director of the AG World Prayer Center. He is also author of Empowered to Pray: Advancing the Kingdom of God Through Prayer and Intercession, published by Gospel Publishing House. Genesis 18v16-33 with Gavin Bennett When confronted with injustice, suffering, and evil, it's easy to wonder what difference our prayers can make. God's invitation is not to bargain with him but to partner with him through intercession, trusting that his grace reaches into the darkest places and that our prayers can help bring his kingdom to earth. We may try to re-define God as someone or something more pleasing to us, but it’s an act of rebellion that leads to destruction. Think about it: How can you determine if there is there a golden calf in your life and what will you do about it?

But if God is this close to us, what is He doing? We know the Word is the source of God's revelation, but what is the daily impact of His presence?God does amazing things in the lives of His people. He works in us, on us, and around us in great ways. Let's explore a few of those mighty acts. He is involved in the lives of unbelievers and believers, in personal ways.
