In this episode, we explore the gift of tears and the importance of allowing ourselves to cry. We reflect on our experiences with crying and talk about how tears, especially in painful moments, can be a powerful expression of surrender, lament, and hope when offered to God. With the help of the Holy Spirit, our sensitivity and capacity to cry reflect the way we were beautifully created to respond to what breaks God's heart. We discuss the vulnerability of crying, the pain of resisting it, and how Jesus crying out on the cross reveals the value of our own cries. Whether you're too tired to cry, afraid to show need, or already feel safe expressing emotion, we invite you to see crying as an act of worship and intercession. In our sorrow, God meets us with love, truth, and the hope that He can actually do something with our pain. The Gospel confers an immense value to our cry, reminding us that it can be an invocation, a protest, a desire, a surrender. It can even be the extreme form of prayer, when there are no words left. Samuel teaches about the importance of prayer, especially intercession, explaining that it starts with personal connection to God and extends to praying for others. He uses biblical examples to show that everyone is called to intercede, encouraging listeners to persist in prayer for others until spiritual growth and unity with Jesus are achieved.
It should be obvious to anyone that the problems besetting America and the whole world will need Divine intervention. It is to the intercession of the Mother of God, that the Church and civilization has often turned.
Do Orthodox Christians “worship icons”? Is Orthodoxy “works-based”? If you've heard those claims and weren't sure how to respond, this episode is your Bible-and-history reality check—clear, charitable, and straight to the point. What Protestants Often Miss About OrthodoxyA surprising witness: Martin Luther once described Greek Orthodox believers as “the most Christian people and the best followers of the gospel on earth.” That startling line sets the stage for a serious, Scripture-anchored look at salvation, saints, and sacred images.1) Salvation: Moment or Journey?Orthodoxy doesn't deny conversion moments—it simply insists the New Testament speaks of salvation in past, present, and future (you have been saved, are being saved, will be saved). Think medicine, not just legal acquittal: sin is a sickness Christ heals, and the Church is the hospital where grace transforms us into His likeness.2) Faith & Works: James's Actual ArgumentJames 2 doesn't pit faith against grace—it shows that living faith is energetic. “Faith without works is dead” is like a body without a soul: the works don't earn salvation; they animate faith, revealing the life of Christ within. This is why the Fathers speak of theosis (2 Peter 1:4): by grace, believers partake of the divine nature, cooperating with God's energies as He reshapes us.3) Saints & Icons: Honor vs. WorshipOrthodoxy draws a bright line between veneration (honor) and worship (adoration due to God alone).Bowing isn't necessarily worship. Scripture shows people bowing in honor without idolatry.Images aren't automatically idols. From the cherubim over the Ark to symbolic imagery throughout Scripture, the Bible distinguishes forbidden idols from holy reminders that direct hearts to God.Intercession is biblical. If the “prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective,” it remains so for those alive in Christ (Hebrews 12:1). We ask the saints to pray with us, not instead of Christ.4) Earliest Christian PracticeArchaeology and early Christian witness show that sacred images and prayers for the departed were part of the Church's life from the beginning—not late medieval inventions. The point isn't art for art's sake; it's Christ-centered remembrance that teaches the faith to hearts, minds, and even our senses. Why this mattersIf you love Jesus, Scripture, and the unity He prayed for, you'll want to understand how the apostolic Church held these truths together: grace-filled transformation, living faith that acts, and worship that engages the whole person. Whether you're Protestant, Orthodox, or just curious, this conversation offers a road map through common objections toward a richer, more historic Christianity.Join us as we walk through the texts, the Fathers, and the first centuries of the Church—and see how today's Orthodox faith connects to the faith once delivered to the saints. Please leave a comment with your thoughts!
Prayer has the power to change everything—but we must be willing to press in. In “Intercession for a Wicked City Part 2,” Pastor Bayless explores how Abraham's persistent prayers for Sodom reflect our calling to pray for the lost today. You'll be challenged to pray for your enemies even when you don't feel a burden to do so. And you'll find out how to pray for those who don't know the Lord. Listen now and get equipped to bring the lost and hurting people in your life before God!
This Message is brought to you by the Senior Pastor of the global, multicampus ministry, Petra Christian Centre, Pastor Ayo Ajani.
The art of intercession is beyond our traditional concept of prayer. It calls us into a deep and profound comprehension of a sacrificial way of lifestyle that collaborates with the forces of heaven to bring about reformation and transformation to society. It flows from a selfless heart, fully and wholly devoted to God's kingdom purposes and prophetic mandate for man and creation. When we intercede, we step into a sacred calling, standing in the gap in relentless love and courage, aligning earthly realities with the divine will to shift the course of human affairs for individuals, communities, and entire nations. At its core, intercession is an act of love; it's an intentional, Spirit-led intervention on behalf of others. It's the moment when a human heart aligns with God's heart, pleading for His mercy, justice, and purposes to manifest in the earth. Whether it's for a family member, a city, or an entire nation, intercession carries the weight of heaven's redemptive plan. The Bible is filled with examples of intercessors who changed the course of history through their relentless, heartfelt prayers: Daniel, Nehemiah, Abraham, Moses, and countless others who stood before God on behalf of broken people and wayward nations.Consider Daniel's story in Babylon (Daniel 10). From the moment he began to pray, God dispatched an answer, but a spiritual adversary, the prince of Persia, hindered the response for 21 days. Daniel's persistence in prayer, coupled with angelic intervention, ultimately broke through the resistance. This account reveals a critical truth: intercession is not just a spiritual exercise; it's a confrontation with unseen forces that seek to oppose God's will. It requires tenacity, spiritual insight, and a deep understanding of the agencies at play in the spiritual realm.Intercession is heaven's ordained mechanism for transformation. If a nation is to experience revival, renewal, or restoration, it begins with a people who understand the ministry of intercession. These intercessors are the forerunners of change, the ones who labor in prayer to align earthly realities with heaven's purposes. But to be effective, intercession demands more than fervent prayers; it requires a clear understanding of the spiritual dynamics involved and a heart fully surrendered to God's redemptive plan.
There may have been a time or two in our lives we felt like we hit rock bottom. What do we do when we hit rock bottom? There is always hope because as Jesus prayed for Peter that his faith would not fail him, Jesus has prayed for us. Peter may have faltered, but his faith did not fail him. There is a sifting we all will go through but we must seek the Lord during that sifting.
Send us a textKorah is unhappy that he is not a priest, so he convinces Dathan, Abiram, and many leaders to challenge Moses and Aaron. Moses prays and tells everyone to bring bowls of incense so God can show whom He has chosen. The next day, God stops the rebellion: the ground opens under the ringleaders, fire falls on the 250 men with incense, and a disease spreads among the crowd until Aaron runs with his incense to save the people. Finally, God makes Aaron's walking stick blossom with flowers and almonds so everyone knows He chose Aaron to serve. This story teaches why jealousy is dangerous, why God's work is holy, and how He wants us to trust His choices with humble hearts. Romans 8:26-28 How does the Spirit help us pray?
If you want to know that God hears your prayers, you need to know that His Spirit is within you and guiding them. Think about it: If God’s Spirit is within you, are you making sure that He’s guiding your prayers and not just being expected to deliver them.

In this episode of Chai Beauty, I reflect on Session Six of the When You Pray Bible study, which focuses on interceding for others in prayer. While it's easy to pray for friends, intercession often challenges us most when it involves those who are difficult to love or those we've been separated from.I share how scriptures like 1 Peter 5:8–11 and Romans remind us that suffering is universal—and that God calls us to stand firm in faith by lifting others up, even in our own trials. Through personal stories and lessons, I explore the tension between selfishness and obedience, what it means to truly love with patience, and why forgiveness and reconciliation matter in God's eyes. We'll explore:Why interceding can feel harder than personal prayerLearning to pray for those who challenge usThe privilege of caring for others as God cares for usWhy forgiveness is for you, and reconciliation is for usLiving out patient, protective, and unconditional Christian love
One of the greatest privileges of prayer is intercession—praying for others. It's easy to make prayer only about ourselves, our needs, and our struggles. But discipleship calls us to lift up those around us—to carry their burdens before the throne of God. When you pray for others, you are partnering with Heaven to release blessing, protection, and breakthrough into their lives. Our springboard for today's discussion is:“First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people.” — 1 Timothy 2:1 (ESV)Paul's words to Timothy remind us that intercession is not optional—it's foundational. Prayer is not only about our walk with God but about advancing His Kingdom in the lives of others. Intercession is one of the most selfless acts of love a disciple can give.So how do we pray for others effectively?* Pray specifically. Don't just say “Lord, bless them.” Ask God to reveal specific needs—healing, courage, provision, wisdom. Call out their name before the Father.* Pray Scripture. Nothing strengthens prayer like aligning it with God's Word. Pray verses of hope, healing, and strength directly over their situation.* Pray persistently. Jesus taught persistence in prayer through the parable of the persistent widow (Luke 18). Don't give up after one prayer—keep lifting them up until the breakthrough comes.* Pray with compassion. Let your heart feel their burden. True intercession flows from love, not obligation. When you intercede, you are literally standing in the gap for someone else. Ezekiel 22:30 tells us that God looked for someone to stand in the gap. Today, you can be that person.Never underestimate how your prayers can shape someone's destiny. You may not see immediate results, but your intercession invites God's hand into their life in ways unseen. And often, as you pray for others, God begins to soften and strengthen your own heart as well.Question of the Day:Who in your life is God calling you to pray for today with intentionality and faith?Mini Call to Action:Pick one person and commit to intercede for them daily this week—by name, with Scripture, and with expectation.Prayer:Lord, give me a heart of compassion for others in prayer. Teach me to intercede faithfully, to pray Your Word over their lives, and to believe for breakthroughs on their behalf. Use me as one who stands in the gap.Let's Get To Work!Your prayers for others matter. Stand in the gap today—you may be the reason someone else finds victory tomorrow. Thanks for reading My Reasons To Believe! The events of the past week in the United States were shocking and sickening. The murder of innocents: Two school children, a young war refugee, a conservative activist. And that's not even the whole list. Many people are hurting and even afraid. And, it would seem, many people are also celebrating murder and reveling in extremely divisive politics. What in the world is a Christian to do? Pastor Chris gave a heart-felt and pastoral response to the rawness of the world by starting with a look at Moses and one of the (many) times he interceded for his nation. Join us for what we hope will be an encouraging and hopeful message.
