In Episode 213, we explore Luke 11:1-4 and the disciples' request that changed everything about how we pray. Jesus is in a certain place praying. As He finishes, one of His disciples comes to Him with a request that reveals something profound: "Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples." They didn't ask Him to teach them to preach. They didn't ask Him to teach them to heal or perform miracles. They asked Him to teach them to pray. Because they watched Jesus pray and saw something they didn't have—a connection, a depth, an intimacy with the Father that was unlike anything they'd ever witnessed. And Jesus gives them a template. Not a script to recite mechanically. Not a formula to perform. A framework to inhabit—a structure that shapes how we approach God and how we live our lives. Through guided meditation, discover the profound movement of this prayer. It begins with God: "Father, may your name be kept holy. May your Kingdom come soon." Before we bring our needs, we orient ourselves toward God. We remember who He is. We align ourselves with His purposes. We begin not with what we want but with who He is. Then it moves to our daily need: "Give us each day the food we need." Not next year's provision. Not a guarantee for the future. Today's. It's a deliberate invitation to daily dependence—to come back to God every morning with open hands, acknowledging that everything we have comes from Him and everything we need must come from Him. Then to our relationships: "Forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us." This is perhaps the most searching line in the prayer. We can't receive forgiveness with a closed fist. The posture that receives grace is the same posture that extends it. You cannot hold onto unforgiveness and receive God's forgiveness at the same time. And finally to our protection: "Don't let us yield to temptation." We acknowledge our weakness. We stop pretending we're strong enough on our own. We ask for God's strength to carry us through what we cannot face alone. This episode explores how this prayer is a complete life of faith in six lines—worship, dependence, forgiveness, and protection. Jesus didn't give us a recitation. He gave us a relationship. Learn how to take each phrase and make it personal, specific, and honest—filling in the blanks with your specific life, your specific needs, your specific sins, your specific temptations. Discover what it means to pray not as a religious duty but as a genuine conversation with a Father who knows you, loves you, and invites you to come to Him with everything. Find the depth and intimacy in prayer that the disciples saw in Jesus—and that Jesus is offering to you.

The sermon focuses on the transformative necessity of a dedicated, private prayer life. Drawing from a recent youth camp experience characterized by a "spiritual renaissance," the message challenges the congregation to move past cultural distractions and performance-based faith to seek a genuine, unhurried connection with God.Key Camp TeachingsErik begins by summarizing the core messages delivered during the recent youth camp, which laid the foundation for the students' spiritual breakthroughs:The Chalk Circle (Rodney Smith): A challenge to draw a metaphorical circle around oneself and pray fervently for revival to start exclusively within that circle.Discernment (Ralph Garcia): The importance of distinguishing between four distinct voices: God, the enemy, the world, and self. This is achieved through Scripture, the Holy Spirit, and wise counsel. The Power of Imagination (Travis): A call to stop surrendering the mind's eye to the enemy and instead use imagination to visualize God and cleanse the mind.Making Disciples (Robbie): A reminder that believers cannot lead others where they have not spiritually gone themselves.Student TestimoniesTo demonstrate the practical impact of these teachings, six students shared their personal breakthroughs from the camp:Ally: Overcame a strong reluctance to attend camp and experienced a profound sense of God's presence and peace during prayer.Carson: Broke free from a draining, performance-based faith and removed digital distractions (like phones) to find pure spiritual freedom.Evie: Conquered a lifelong fear of embarrassment and the judgment of others in order to fully surrender and worship openly.James: Navigated the fallout of a public mistake, a battle with pneumonia, and profound grief, ultimately finding the overwhelming presence of Jesus.Addie: Battled internal divides, anxiety, and shame by using Scripture (Philippians 4, Psalm 139) to renew her mind and silence lies.Liam: Transitioned from an inconsistent, wavering relationship with God to stepping up in leadership and finding clear spiritual direction. The Core Message: Fueling Ministry Through PrayerFollowing the testimonies, Erik grounds the message in Luke 10:38-42, using the story of Martha and Mary to illustrate the ultimate goal of prayer. The Danger of Distraction: Martha was frantic, working hard to prepare a meal for Jesus, but her busyness left her frustrated, burned out, and resentful. Erik warns against doing things for Jesus while neglecting to spend time with Jesus. The "Good Portion": Mary chose the better path by simply sitting at the feet of Jesus and listening. True spiritual peace and effectiveness come from proximity to God, not from frantic service.Motivations in Prayer: A healthy prayer life must seek the advancement of God's kingdom rather than personal glory. Erik challenges the congregation to examine if their prayers are focused on building up their own names or honoring God."No man is greater than his prayer life." — Leonard Ravenhill (Quoted by Erik Schlick)The sermon concludes with a call to action: to stop living out of anxiety or a desire for human approval, and instead adopt a posture of stillness, knowing that a public life of faith must be directly fueled by a private life of prayer. MY Devotional: Daily Encouragement from Leading The Way

Dr. R. A. Torrey once wrote that prayer is the key that unlocks the storehouses of God's infinite grace and power. In today's episode of the MY Devotional Podcast, Dr. Michael Youssef asks an honest question: If prayer is so powerful, why do we spend so little time doing it? Some believers struggle because they do not know how to pray or wonder whether God hears them. But Scripture assures us that the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and His ears are attentive to their cry. Others misunderstand prayer, treating it like a formula or a method for getting God to fulfill personal desires. Yet Jesus taught His disciples a simple prayer that centers on humility, worship, dependence, forgiveness, and surrender to the Father's will. Dr. Youssef reminds us that God is not our bellhop or servant. Prayer is not about manipulating heaven with eloquent words. It is our greatest form of communication with our heavenly Father—a place where we bare our souls, receive His grace, and deepen our relationship with Him. Well-phrased sentences will not usher us into the throne room of God. But a humble heart, a worshipful spirit, and a sincere desire to seek the Savior open the door to deeper fellowship with Him. Pray with me.  Precious Lord, teach me how to pray. I desire intimacy with You. Fashion within me a heart like Yours. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen. The voice you hear on the MY Devotional podcast is digitally generated with Dr. Youssef's permission. If today's devotional stirred a question, burden, or need for prayer, you don't have to walk through it alone.

Why is prayer so hard? Many Christians believe that God hears us, loves us, and welcomes us, but our actual prayer lives often feel distracted, awkward, inconsistent, or strained. Psalm 28 gives us a deeply honest picture of prayer. David cries out in desperation, asks for mercy, wrestles with the wicked, and eventually moves into praise and confidence in God. This message explores how Psalm 28 invites us to pray honestly and expect transformation. God does not invite only polished, eloquent, spiritually confident people to pray. He invites real people with messy hearts, scattered thoughts, fear, anger, doubt, and need. In this sermon, we look at why prayer is difficult, how Psalm 28 gives us permission to come honestly before God, and how prayer transforms us as we look upward to the Lord. Because of Jesus, we can come to the Father not as strangers, but as beloved sons and daughters.

What happens when following Jesus doesn't look like what you signed up for? In this message, guest speaker Jeff Stemple picks up where last week's sermon left off — right at the moment in Matthew 16 where Jesus begins speaking plainly about suffering, rejection, and death, leaving his disciples confused, disappointed, and wrestling with their faith. From there, Jeff walks us into one of the most breathtaking moments in all of Scripture: the Transfiguration. In Matthew 17, just six days after that difficult conversation, Jesus takes Peter, James, and John up a mountain — and what they witness there is God's direct answer to their confusion and disillusionment. His face shining like the sun, Moses and Elijah present, and a voice from heaven declaring the same words spoken at Jesus' baptism — with one powerful addition: Listen to him. That command is the heartbeat of this message. When the disciples were struggling most, God didn't offer an explanation. He gave a command. And that command still stands for us today.Jeff unpacks three ways we can get to a place of genuine, obedient listening: seeing Jesus for who he truly is (not merely who we want him to be), resisting our desire to control and manage our circumstances, and following Jesus back down the mountain into the ordinary obedience of everyday life.If you've ever felt disillusioned in your faith — like the experience isn't matching the advertisement — this message is for you.Watch all our sermons on our youtube channel "Flipside Christian Church"Join us in person 8:00am, 9:30am & 11:00am every Sunday morning.37193 Ave 12 #3h, Madera, CA 93636For more visit us at flipside.churchFor more podcasts visit flipsidepodcasts.transistor.fm

Prayer can easily become routine, performative, or something we only turn to in emergencies. But Jesus taught prayer as a daily relationship with God—not a religious performance. If you've struggled with consistency, distraction, doubt, or feeling distant from God, this message will help you build a stronger prayer life rooted in Scripture. In this sermon, you'll learn: Why prayer is more than religious routine How to pray when you don't know what to say What Jesus taught about private prayer and authenticity Why daily dependence on God changes your mindset How unforgiveness and temptation affect your spiritual growth What it means to pray for God's will instead of your own Prayer is not about perfect words. MY Devotional: Daily Encouragement from Leading The Way

What makes “the prayer of a righteous person” so effective? Dr. Michael Youssef points to Daniel's plea in Daniel 9:4–19 as a clear model for believers today—and then highlights the key components you can practice immediately. First, start with praise. Daniel doesn't rush into requests; he begins by magnifying God as “great and awesome,” faithful to His covenant of love (Daniel 9:4). Prayer isn't merely a tool to get what we want—it's fellowship with God, cultivating an intimate relationship through adoration and thanksgiving. Second, confess your sins. Daniel doesn't minimize Israel's guilt or make excuses. He owns it plainly: “we have sinned and done wrong… we have turned away” (Daniel 9:5). Dr. Youssef reminds us that honest confession isn't self-condemnation—it's God's pathway to restore us to the fullness of right relationship with Him. If you've felt stuck in prayer, distracted, or discouraged, this devotional will help you reset your approach: praise God for who He is, confess what He reveals, and pray from a heart that longs to be aligned with Him. Prayer: God, I want to praise You today for Your love and for the gift of salvation. Thank You for giving us Your Word to provide examples like Daniel for us to follow. Forgive my sins, my Redeemer. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen. Scripture Focus: “The Lord lives! Praise be to my Rock! Exalted be God my Savior!” (Psalm 18:46). Learn more in Dr. Michael A. Prayer moved from improvisation to communion.Others recognized the same hunger. James realized his spontaneous prayers had drifted into performance—aimed at people, not God. Mario found freedom from the anxious loop of “Am I saying enough? Am I praying right?” The ancient patterns didn't smother the Spirit; they formed the heart—Scripture-soaked, Christ-centered, time-tested.Then came the moment Eddie couldn't shake. During the Divine Liturgy, his two-year-old tried to make the sign of the cross—clumsy, sincere, unforgettable.“This is why Christianity outlasts civilizations and fashions,” Eddie reflects. “It isn't just for us—it's for them, when we're gone.”The man who almost branded Sola Scriptura into his skin is now learning the rhythms of ancient Christianity—not rejecting Scripture, but receiving it within the prayer-shaped life of the Church. The vow “never Orthodox” didn't end in an argument. It ended in adoration. If you've ever said your own version of “never,” or longed for a prayer life that's deeper than resolve and stronger than mood, Eddie's journey is your invitation. What does choosing joy really mean when you’re living through pain, pressure, or exhaustion? In this deeply personal solo episode, Choosing Joy host Deborah Joy Winans Williams sits down—not as an actress or celebrity, but as herself—to answer your questions, share her heart, and reflect on what joy looks like when it’s uncomfortable, spiritual, and hard-won. Deborah opens up about motherhood, mental health, faith, grief, self-worth, and how she learned (and is still learning) to choose joy daily—not just on stage, but in real life. From the lessons of her Winans family legacy to her girls' trip epiphany with Merle Dandridge to the quiet prayers that sustain her, this episode is a soulful, grounding invitation to go deeper. Whether you’re a woman of faith, an artist in progress, a mother in motion, or just someone trying to pour from a not-so-full cup—Deborah’s raw honesty and wisdom remind us that joy isn’t a mood... it’s a decision. What if I told you that locked within your neurobiological architecture lies an ancient energy technology so powerful it was guarded by Hawaiian Kahuna priests for centuries?! We're talking about mana force – the  primordial creative current that quantum physics is only beginning to  understand! These Kahuna masters weren't just spiritual practitioners – they were reality engineers who recognized that Mana – this primordial creative force– could be generated, directed, and amplified through specific protocols! They developed a technology of consciousness through a specific technique that allowed  them to bend reality, to heal instantaneously, to manifest with precision that would seem supernatural to the uninitiated! Mana Force, written about by Madeleine C Morris in her mind blowing book Mana Force Power is the operating system of reality itself! It's the living, breathing current of creative potential that flows through all existence – and it's been dormant within you, waiting for the right moment, the right sequence, the right activation to come online! This is an experiential technology designed to trigger a fundamental shift in your energetic signature! In this episode we're not just learning about this power – we're activating it.

We are lifelong learners in the school of prayer. The Church offers various guides to help us grow and cultivate our prayer lives. These include the family, the saints, priests, religious brothers and sisters, prayer groups, spiritual directors, and more. These individuals and communities teach us to pray in different ways and inspire us to persevere in prayer. Fr. Mike invites us to reflect on how God calls us to lead others in the Faith. Today's readings are Catechism paragraphs 2683-2690.
