Early in the morning, the women came to the tomb expecting to find death- but instead encountered life. In Mark 16:1-8, we witness the power of the resurrection, the empty tomb, and the message that changes everything: “He has risen.” This moment is not just history-it’s hope. Join us as we celebrate the beauty, mystery, and life-giving truth of the resurrection of Jesus.

The longest day, Jesus' crucifixion, gives way to the greatest day, the resurrection. Today we look at the evidence of a risen Savior; the empty tomb, an angelic announcement and many eyewitnesses. All of this evidence is incredible and compelling, but the gospel of Mark pushes us beyond the clues and towards a relationship with Jesus. Join us at 10:30 as we celebrate Easter and the greatest news of all, that by Jesus' death and resurrection we have life in His name!

Death to life. What a scene! No one expected it. No one prepared for it. And everything was changed because of it.
Sunday sermons from Chewelah Evangelical Free Church
Upon reaching Jesus' tomb that first Easter morning, the women were confused that the stone had already been moved and the grave was empty. Where is Jesus? So many things in life can raise the same confusion and fear. The question remains the same: Where is Jesus in all this mess? Where is Jesus? He has risen! He is here now! He is here in Baptism, the Lord’s Supper, and His Word. He is here as we live a life of faith and hope, even when there is misery…even when our last great enemy, death, claims us.

Did Jesus really rise from the dead? All of Christianity and genuine relationship with God rests on the answer to this one question. This Sunday we will examine the evidence recorded in Mark 16:1-8 and discover the basis of our faith and why it makes an eternal difference.

We can't defeat death, no matter how hard we try. The good news of Easter morning is that Jesus did defeat death, and he invites us to join him in his victory.

If the Gospel of Mark is “the beginning of the Good News of Jesus Christ,” Mark may be inviting each of us to “finish the story” of that Good News with our lives. But what if like the women at the tomb, our fear remains? The Longer Ending of Mark serves as an Epilogue that reminds us readers and hearers that no matter how the women felt and no matter where their fleeing took them, God’s presence and providence followed them unabated. Rev. Larry Hayward preaches on Easter Sunday, the Resurrection of the Lord. The Scripture lesson is Mark 16:1-8, 12-20.
