POPULARITY
The hope of Christ's return should be the primary motivator in every Christian's life. And if it were we too would be known for our work of faith, labor of love, and steadfastness of hope.
What do we do when love is defined as smiling at evil? What do we do when hate is saying anything is wrong? What do we do when an America many of us love seems to be passing into the night? What do we do? I would say we have to answer these questions biblically and strategically, as if the church would even agree on what biblically and strategically looks like. Here is where we need to hear the theme of Thessalonians is staying the course, for the end is great. Our staying the course is the best chance for America to turn from idols to the living God. What does staying the course look like.

The world feels a bit upside down right now, doesn't it? Nothing feels "normal" and it seems things are constantly changing around us. Honestly, it's hard to decipher at times how to navigate each day or even each moment. It seems too often, that no matter our efforts, the same difficulties and sins are seen over and over again in our culture and lives. But what if this upside down feeling is a good thing? What if we could see what's going on around us as a catalyst to turn our world upside down in a positive way? How can Jesus help us to do that? As we begin our new sermon series on the book of Thessalonians, we will see how others turned their world upside down through the gospel and how we can follow their lead in our times right now.

We are told by our Lord that our mission in the world is to make disciples. Yet, for many of us, this is a task that is done best by the professionals. Pastors, teachers, missionaries: these are the ones who are really expected to make disciples. Yet, in this small overlooked book we find a young church that nevertheless flourishes not only in being disciples, but in making them as well. Their example is one for us to follow. Let us see how we can become better at both ends of this mission for the church, turning to ! Thessalonians to become better both at being disciples and become disciple-makers.

Pastor Marc Sharp continues the new series on the letters of Paul to the Thessalonians. We began in Acts 17, where we read the story of how Paul (along with Silas and Timothy) came to the city of Thessalonica in Macedonia (modern day Greece). Their preaching caused a riot to break out, causing them to flee to another city. How would you like to be so effective in proclaiming the gospel that everywhere you went, civil unrest ensued, and you had to be whisked out of town in the dead of night? Follow with us the adventures of this band of brothers!

In a society where idolatry abounded, the New Testament believers came to God and left their old ways behind them. We too are called to a new way of life. This Bible message calls us to a holiness in the midst of the foolishness of the idolatry practiced today. What does a model believer do? We gain inspiration from Paul in his letter to the church at Thessalonica. In it, he writes what a joy to him they are and thanks them for their faith, hope, and love. That’s a church worth imitating! That’s a church we can model ourselves after. Model Godly behavior by following Godly examples!
The model church is one that is unified, labors in faith and love, waits patiently for the rapture, imitates the Lord, receives the Word of God, has joy, and shares their faith with the world.
