We all know something is broken — and the self-help industry, social media highlight reels, and hustle culture are all trying to fix it. But what if the problem runs deeper than any of those solutions can reach? This Palm Sunday, Brett Ferguson opens Luke 19 and asks a question that cuts right to the heart: who — or what — are you trusting to redeem you? Walking through Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem, Brett unpacks three reasons only King Jesus can redeem: he has unique authority over all things, he is the long-promised Son of David, and he is moved by deep compassion for broken people. The sermon lands with a challenge that leaves no comfortable middle ground — crown him or kill him, but don't just like him. Here's a couple key takeaways - Jesus has authority over every area of your life — not just your circumstances, but your heart, your habits, and your affections. - Jesus is not a self-help guru or life coach — he came to be King, and he's asking for full surrender, not casual admiration. - Whatever shame or brokenness you carry, there is no path in your life that King Jesus cannot redeem. Why did Christ leave the glory of heaven? Why did Christ come to earth? Why did Christ die on the cross for our sins? These are primary questions that we must understand. If we get the answers to these questions wrong, we will end up rejecting Christ just like many in the crowd on that first Palm Sunday. When Jesus arrived in Jerusalem on that Palm Sunday, the majority of the crowd was overwhelmed with excitement. Christ their King was entering Jerusalem to take His rightful place. Before the week is over, however, they will reject Him and put Him on a cross shouting, “Crucify Him!” Why? Because they didn’t understand who Christ was. They did not understand who they were, and they did not know why He came. For that reason, they rejected Him. Sadly, many are making the same mistake today. This weekend as we look at Christ’s triumphal entry marking the beginning of the Passion Week of Christ, I pray that God will make clear to us through His Word and Spirit who we are, who Christ is, and why He came. And I pray that many will come to trust in Him as Savior and submit to Him as Lord. I pray you will join us!

Palm Sunday's parade exhibited excitement and enthusiasm about the coming of Christ to Jerusalem; however, as His procession continues to Good Friday their cheers gave way to jeers. Although our loyalties may change, Christ is faithful to the end. Unlike the crowds, Jesus keeps His focus on His purpose: to suffer and die for the salvation of all people. Since Christ was loyal to His Father’s will, we find confidence in Him at all times.

Palm Sunday is the culmination of Jesus' ministry and the pivotal fulfillment of prophecy where Jesus is presented to the Jews as their Messiah and king. Instead of accepting Jesus as Who He was, the crowd placed on Him their own desires of a military leader who would restore independence. The religious leaders were envious of Jesus and fearful of the Romans. Jesus marched onward to fulfill His mission. Music by the Gospel Light Singers.
