Romans 12:1–2 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. 2 Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. (NIV) Luke 9:23–24 Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me. 24 For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will save it. (NIV) Luke 14:27 And whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple. (NIV) 2 Components of a Living Sacrifice 1. You must leave where you are Genesis 12:1 The Lord had said to Abram, “Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father’s family, and go to the land that I will show you. (NLT) Genesis 12:4 4 So Abram departed as the Lord had instructed and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he left Haran. 5 He took his wife, Sarai, his nephew Lot, and all his wealth—his livestock and all the people he had taken into his household at Haran—and headed for the land of Canaan. When they arrived in Canaan, (NLT) Genesis 11:31–32 One day Terah took his son Abram, his daughter-in-law Sarai (his son Abram’s wife), and his grandson Lot (his son Haran’s child) and moved away from Ur of the Chaldeans. He was headed for the land of Canaan, but they stopped at Haran and settled there. 32 Terah lived for 205 years and died while still in Haran. (NLT) 2. You will leave when you remember the promises of God Genesis 12:2-3 2 I will make you into a great nation. Daily Scripture Readings: If you're reading along with us, today's McCheyne Reading Plan passages are: Deuteronomy 32 Psalm 119:121-144 Isaiah 59 Matthew 7 Take 15-20 minutes to read these chapters, then come back and join me. Bible Focus: 1 Kings 19:11–13 (ESV): 11 And he said, “Go out and stand on the mount before the LORD.” And behold, the LORD passed by, and a great and strong wind tore the mountains and broke in pieces the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. And after the wind an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. 12 And after the earthquake a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper. 13 And when Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his cloak and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. And behold, there came a voice to him and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?” In this episode of Five by the Fire, host Pastor Fury (Armand Sheffi) delves into the crucial topic of hearing completely from God. The discussion centers around the story of Elijah from 1 Kings 19:11-13, exploring how God's voice often comes in unexpected ways. Pastor Fury begins by examining Elijah's journey from a place of power to feeling lost, setting the stage for a powerful encounter with God. Through this biblical account, listeners are encouraged to broaden their understanding of how and where God might speak to them. Two key takeaways emerge from the discussion. First, God's voice isn't always found in spectacular events. Instead, it often comes as a quiet, still, small voice, emphasizing the importance of seeking God in moments of stillness. Second, God can and does speak through unexpected sources, challenging listeners to remain open to hearing God in any space or through anyone. The episode provides practical advice on cultivating a listening heart and developing a mindset that's ready to learn from God in every context. Pastor Fury encourages listeners to be like Elijah, always ready to hear God's voice, even in the most unlikely circumstances. This week, we kicked off our new sermon series in the book of Esther! Co-lead pastor Alex Leyva walked through Esther 1:1-22. In these verses, we see King Ahasuerus throw multiple banquets to celebrate his power, then exile his Queen Vashti because she refused to come when he demanded to show her off. While God isn't mentioned in the book of Esther, we see symbols pointing back to him throughout the book, particularly in the compare and contrast between him and King Ahasuerus. We compare the way they reign, the feasts they celebrate, the treatment of their brides and their execution of law and justice. In every context, we learn that King Ahasuerus is a poor imitation of the real God. Praise God! Only a perfect king is worthy of absolute power, and we worship the perfect King.

Are you hearing God's voice?Often we call out to God in prayer for answers to life's problems, but do we accept the opportunities when God brings them our way? Today, Jerry and Adrienne teach through the scripture regarding God's will for the believer. We can go in so many odd directions while wearing the Christian label. Often times we end up like Nicodemus and we know Jesus is God, but sometimes our hearts become hard like the other pharisees. Has hypocrisy tried to get a foothold in your life? In your family's life? Step back and listen to the wind of God's Spirit. We need to discern His will. Sometimes we listen to false teachers who have their own motives. Listen to the very Words of God and let it soak into your body and give you true strength for walking in the right direction. Perhaps God is guiding you right now. Perhaps you have resisted His will for fear and insecurity. Be bold and wise enough to follow through after you have recieved God's "Go-Ahead." May 7, 2023 - Blind Spot, “Missing God's Grace” by Southwest Christian Church
Gospel for the Fourth Sunday of Lent - John 9:1-41In another multi-layered, long Gospel from John, we actually see many of the same attributes that we did last week. Faith is a progression. However, there are two other points of note. Like the blind man in the story, how do we answer the question when people ask us who Jesus is? And how often do we get caught up in the non-important details and miss the presence and action of God in our midst? If we do, we're in good company.Special thanks to Bridget Zenk for her composition and performing of our intake and outtake music. Thank you for listening and blessings on your Lenten journey! I can be reached at pdjoezenk@gmail.com if you have any questions or comments.

In this episode of Pray the Word on Ezekiel 13:17, David Platt warns us of the danger of missing God's Word.
Many people think there is only one way to miss God: to run from Him through flagrant disobedience and outright rebellion. But there is another far more subtle way to miss Him: by going through the motions of "obedience" with a heart that is far from Him. Using the work of Tim Keller in "The Prodigal God" and the "The Prodigal Prophet", this sermon explores how Jonah misses God in Jonah 4:1-4 in this second way, producing anger, superiority, slavishness, and emptiness in his heart. It then examines how God pursues his wayward prophet once again, seeking to reorient his heart around mercy. July 31, 2022
The God Of War Ragnarok saga continued to rage on this week. As Thursday came and went without a reveal in sight, 'insiders' and 'leakers' were forced onto the defensive. That's when some so-called God Of War 'fans' took matters into their own hands in a desperate attempt to discover that much-discussed release date. There was some good news this week though! We chatted about Nintendo's latest Mini-Direct, which featured a wealth of 3rd-party content heading to the platform, and also discussed the future of FromSoftware, looking at where Miyazaki & Co will go following the success of Elden Ring. Enjoy!
Marty Solomon and Brent Billings consider the Pharisees' reaction to the raising of Lazarus, as well as the story of Mary anointing Jesus for burial.“Missing God in the Name of God” (sermon) — University Christian Church, YouTubeThe Jewish Annotated New Testament
On a small handful of occasions in the Gospels, we are told that Jesus wept. We all know about Him weeping outside the tomb of Lazarus. Most people are not as familiar with the occasion when Jesus wept over an entire city. He literally lamented over them. Why did He do so? Because the people there missed the timing of God visiting them with Heaven's very best offer. God offered them Jesus. And they said NO. In this episode of Mavericks & Misfits, Jeff releases a strong prophetic exhortation to the listener to ensure that they are not missing out on what God is presently doing around them. God makes seasonal offers for us to experience Him in unusual ways. Outpourings of power, gifts, resources and opportunities are offered to God's people at various levels at various times. We cannot afford to be ignorant of how we must be positioned both to recognize and receive such offers from Heaven. This episode helps up to wake up and step up to receive the pears that God is presently offering us.

God is doing a new thing...don't miss it! As we approach 2022, let's prepare our hearts as individuals and as a church for how God wants to work in our lives!Isaiah 43:1-16. Preached by Tommy Vinson on December 26th, 2021.
22, 3-2-SHOW NOTES & COPYRIGHTS, 10/17/21 As far as today's show notes are concerned, I want to announce, very loudly and clearly, that I used spell check and any misspellings are not from my fingers tapping on the letters on the keyboard. That's all I have to say. Now it's up to you, Dave. . . . . . . . . . . . . _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Today we have poems about Jesus being the Bread of Life, the wonder of God's way, a couple of the amazing things God has done for me, and God's rest. MATTHEW 16:6 (Living In God's Rhyme, pg. 179) I tremble in fear as I write these words, Not in fear of what the reader may think. I tremble in fear, in awe of God that stirred My heart to believe I can be his scribe. Throughout the Old and New Testaments There are warnings about false prophets. Warnings were given during the times of the law And again today knowing all his people saw. During the times of the Law God's chosen ones were instructed As they sought their release To eat unleavened bread. Today we are saved by unleavened bread Jesus the bread of life knew no sin. In Matthew we find that the rulers of the law, The Pharisees and the Sadducees, fought what they saw. Though seeing they were unbelieving, Missing God's mighty wonder and awe. After refusing the demands of those who were blind Jesus left the religious leaders and others behind. When they went across the lake, the disciples forgot to take bread. “Be careful,” Jesus said to them. “Be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.” Matthew 16:5,6 The disciples perhaps confused, Or perhaps like a writer confounded, Wondered if what he said Was because they didn't bring any bread. Knowing of their discussion, Jesus asked, “You of little faith, why are you talking among yourselves about having no bread? (Matthew 16:8) And he reminded them of the times They gathered baskets and baskets of loaves That were left over, which were more, More than they had when they began. Jesus continued, “How is it you don't understand that I was not talking to you about bread? Be on guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.” (Matthew 16:11) Then the disciples knew as we should know That it was not the yeast used in the bread That they should guard against, but the preaching Of those leaders in power and their false teaching. Today there are those who profess To know better than the rest, That the Jesus they teach They will show you how to reach. God's ways are not our ways And any word we add or change That leads a one in need astray, For us life will become stranger, Stranger with danger. Jesus, the Bread of Life, needs no yeast. Nothing needs to be added, no nothing, How do we improve on perfection, Ours through his death and resurrection? We need to read God's word, We need to pray for wisdom To know the words of man we have heard Are the words that rule God's Kingdom. ©2018 Living In God's Rhyme by Tim Carter Ok, the last 2 lines are confusing or mis-written. It has been 4 years since I wrote this poem. My hope is that I was trying to say that we need to pray for wisdom so we know if the word man speaks are the words of God, that rule His kingdom. Maybe I should have written: To know the words of the Son of Man we have heard Are the words that rule God's Kingdom. or, To know the words of man we have heard Are not the words that rule God's Kingdom. I'II work on getting that changed. I'm not going to try to get out of this with my poetic license. Let's see how the next one goes. THE WONDER OF GOD'S WAYS (Living in God's Rhyme, pg. 182) God's love is shown and Jesus is known As the words of King David are heard...
