Who is Jesus? This is a loaded question. But, it is also the most pivotal question you will ever be asked. In Matthew 16, Jesus asks His disciples the same question -- "Who Do You Say That I Am?" This question and the way we respond to it can set the course for our eternity.

FIFTH SUNDAY OF LENT ORDER OF WORSHIP Rev. Kendra Lovelace Balliet Organist: Jim Ross Music Ministry: Pic-A-Longs Prelude - Celtic Hymn (Hans-Andre' Stamm) - James Ross, organ Be Thou My Vision - Pic-A-Longs Welcome *Call to Worship Leader: Lenten travelers, how long have you traveled this road with your gaze pointed down at the dust and gravel and asphalt as you walk or limp or roll down the path? People: Sometimes it is easier to look at the road than at the people who share the journey with us. Leader: Lift up your heads! Look, listen, reach out a hand. Who are your neighbors on this road? People: We lift our heads and look to our Savior who journeys with us and helps us notice our neighbors all around us. Leader: This is the Lenten journey—to learn to love God and love our neighbors just as Jesus showed us. People: Our journey teaches us to lose our lives to God as we find and follow Christ in our service to others. Leader: Come, let us worship God who caravans with us on this road to the cross. People: Come, let us worship! Amen. *Opening Hymn "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God" #110 *Prayer of Confession Leader: Come let us turn to our God, who is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love. Let us pray. People: Love that knows no boundaries: we crowd our lives with so much activity that it is hard to find time for you. We become so focused on ourselves, we can overlook those around us who are searching for hope. We fill our spiritual emptiness with junk, rather than feasting on your Word. Abundant Mercy, forgive us. Open our eyes, that we may see your new covenant written in plain sight on our hearts. Open our hearts, that we may join you in serving the broken of the world. Open our love, so we may pour it out as abundantly and graciously as your love is given to us in Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen. Words of Assurance Leader: In love, God sent Jesus to bless and redeem God’s people. God forgives us our sins and restores us to new life. Let us rejoice in God’s mercy. All: Amen! FIFTH SUNDAY OF LENT Rev. Kendra Lovelace Balliet Scripture Matthew 16:13-20 Sermon Series “Journey of Stones” Sermon: “Upon This Rock”
Ever wondered what in the world the Lord is doing in the world right now? Ever longed for a great cause to give yourself to, or a place of belonging? All of these more noble aspirations find their fulfillment in the simple, yet powerful, words of Christ in Matthew 16:13-20. In this episode, Chris Kipp delivers a sermon entitled "I Will Build My Church". Renaissance Church - Richmond, Texas ren-church.org #alloflifealltheearth
Many of us can think of someone in our neighborhood, work, school, family, or friend circles who is lost. Someone who really needs to see Jesus for who Jesus really is. But we often jump in and attempt to get them to the finish line (or a point of decision) before we prayerfully assess what's going on. The TRUTH of the matter is God is already at work. As Rick Richardson says, "Before we talk to people about God, we need to talk to God about people."
COMMON GROUND CHURCH of the CMA
We hear a message from Jesus about His church in Matthew 16:13-20. We are reminded of some of God's purpose, mission, and vision in creating the Church, as well as Calvary's more specific role in that work as well. We are also reminded that Jesus is building his church and that he invites us to join him in his work.

In today’s passage, a pivot point in the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus poses a question to us: who do we say that he is? The confession of Jesus as God’s anointed Messiah is the confession that determines our destiny and serves as the foundational principle upon which his church, his kingdom, is built. Join us as we unpack these important verses!
Rev. Dr. Larry Hayward preaches on the Twenty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time. The Scripture passage is Matthew 16:13-20.

For several Sundays in our Gospel, we have heard about Jesus’ great miracles, namely, the feeding of the five thousand, walking on water, and healing the Canaanite woman’s daughter. Like the disciples who experienced these things firsthand, by our hearing the Gospel, the Holy Spirit enables us also to confess Jesus as the Christ. This confession is powerful, and with it the Church will not be overcome by its enemies but will prevail. Together we rejoice that our faith is built on the solid rock of Christ and boldly confess that to others.

Have you ever felt the empowerment of someone handing you the keys to a vehicle? In this episode, Jason Bollinger looks at the words of Jesus found in Matthew 16:13-20 as Jesus hands the keys of the kingdom to the disciples. We are bombarded with questions every single day. In many cases we don't even notice how many questions we face. Some are no big deal and don't have a whole lot of lasting effect, but there are some life-altering questions we must answer... "Do you take this person to be your lawfully wedded spouse?" Now that is a heavy question that can alter your life! In Matthew, Jesus asks His disciples a question we all must answer. He asks, "Who do you say that I am?" In this message, Pastor Derek Holmes looks at why this question is the most important question ever asked that we must answer.
