Icon Church Elder, Ben Wishall, preaches on Isaiah 6:1-7 which is centered around God's unimaginable holiness and helps us to rightly respond as believers in Christ.
Are you believing all the lies, or are you believing in the truth? In the Bible the Truth isn’t a WHAT…the Truth is a WHO. Jesus IS the Truth, not facts about him, but HIM. Let’s learn to say “NO MORE!” to the lies that we are told daily and believe in the Truth of […]
We come to the end of this story, sermon #50 from the book of Acts. It ends with a rather frustrating cliff hanger. Paul has reached Rome, and the Gospel has spread all over the Empire. But he is still awaiting a trial when the book abruptly ends. We have no idea what happened to Peter and the other 12. And the story ends with Paul awaiting his trial before Nero where he could die or go free—which happened? If we read this story as primarily a narrative about early Christian leaders, the story ends without a resolution. But if we understand Acts as the story of God and the beginning of the mission of God, we realize the book of Acts is just the beginning. As Scripture, Acts ends. But the story goes on, and we get to be a part of it. For God’s glory we are still telling the story. We are Acts 29. This sermon will be a primer on church history and the advance of the Gospel to the ends of the earth, and a reminder that the story is not done. Therefore, we are still called to this big plan and have our moment to join the story.
In our most DESPERATE times we can still see God’s Provision, we are sustained by his Providence, and we are guided by Prophecy in his Word, to help us remember that he is never far away from us! And in those times, like David, we must continue to Praise His name! Check out more […]
Pastor Ravon Johnson teaches from Deuteronomy 31:6,8 and 2 Corinthians 5:17-20. He teaches how these passages show that every believer in Christ is meant to fulfill the work of God's kingdom here on earth. Despite demonic powers and our own sin that can war against God's kingdom, we have been given courageous faith to advance His kingdom and live holy in an unrighteous world.
In this section of 1 Samuel we see Jonathan surrendering his ALL to David and saying “Whatever you say, I will do for you.” Have you surrendered your ALL to Jesus? Saying, “Jesus, I surrender everything to you. It’s ALL or Nothing. Whatever you say, I will do for you.” And, are you continuing to […]
Guest pastor Luke Davis teaches from Psalm 62:5-8, which reminds us of the truth that God is our one true refuge and how we can and should run to Him.
Guest speaker Jeff Vanderstelt teaches from 2 Corinthians 12:7-10 on how the path to strength and wholeness actually comes through surrendering to our weakness before God.
In this world we will have Triumphs, much like David had. But, we are also promised to have Troubles. If we only see the Bible for the good, nice, easy parts, we are missing the entire story, because there are Hard Parts to the Christian life as well. But, take heart, Jesus has overcome the […]
Jesus LOVES seeing people get what they don’t deserve! As David becomes more popular with the people and God continues to bless him, Saul’s envy begins to breed a lot more sin in his life! Does the sin in your life have a root of envy? Understanding GRACE is how we uproot ENVY. Check […]
In No Hurry with Cole Douglas Claybourn
Being in community with people is one of the strongest desires we feel as humans. As adults, finding that community can be a challenge, but the church can be a great place to look. A new book by Barnabas Piper, "Belong," seeks to equip churches and churchgoers about how to best cultivate a sense of belonging within the context of a church family. Barnabas joins me this week to talk about his new book and the ideas inside of it. This is one of the first books in the new Love Your Church series, which is being written by a collection of Bible teachers from Acts29, a church planting network. “We are looking for something personal, something deeply meaningful, something with which we can identify," Barnabas writes in the first chapter of the book. "And this book is an invitation to find that in the church, because God wants us to …Part of God's perfect strategy is offering hurting, tired, worn out, needy sinners like you and me a place to belong in … A place in which to encounter the profound, transformative, healing, restoring grace of Jesus Christ.” This is the third time Barnabas has been a guest on the show, and I always appreciate his perspective on a number of topics. If you're interested in hearing more, you can check out The Happy Rant Podcast, where Barnabas is a co-host, as well as the Happy Rant Podcast book, which he and his co-hosts wrote. In both the podcast and the book, Piper and the others touch on a wide variety of topics that fall under the purview of Christian and church culture, and they bring a good mixture of wit and humor to the table. Barnabas and I talk about that book as well and the heart behind it. You can connect with Barnabas and learn more about his other books at barnabaspiper.com. Thanks for listening!
