Who is Jesus? This is a loaded question. But, it is also the most pivotal question you will ever be asked. In Matthew 16, Jesus asks His disciples the same question -- "Who Do You Say That I Am?" This question and the way we respond to it can set the course for our eternity.

Ever wondered what in the world the Lord is doing in the world right now? Ever longed for a great cause to give yourself to, or a place of belonging? All of these more noble aspirations find their fulfillment in the simple, yet powerful, words of Christ in Matthew 16:13-20. In this episode, Chris Kipp delivers a sermon entitled "I Will Build My Church". Renaissance Church - Richmond, Texas ren-church.org #alloflifealltheearth
Many of us can think of someone in our neighborhood, work, school, family, or friend circles who is lost. Someone who really needs to see Jesus for who Jesus really is. But we often jump in and attempt to get them to the finish line (or a point of decision) before we prayerfully assess what's going on. The TRUTH of the matter is God is already at work. As Rick Richardson says, "Before we talk to people about God, we need to talk to God about people."

We hear a message from Jesus about His church in Matthew 16:13-20. We are reminded of some of God's purpose, mission, and vision in creating the Church, as well as Calvary's more specific role in that work as well. We are also reminded that Jesus is building his church and that he invites us to join him in his work.

In today’s passage, a pivot point in the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus poses a question to us: who do we say that he is? The confession of Jesus as God’s anointed Messiah is the confession that determines our destiny and serves as the foundational principle upon which his church, his kingdom, is built. Join us as we unpack these important verses!
Rev. Dr. Larry Hayward preaches on the Twenty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time. The Scripture passage is Matthew 16:13-20.
This message is a straight forward defense of the local church in light of Jesus Christ's own words and His call to hear what the Spirit says to the churches.

For several Sundays in our Gospel, we have heard about Jesus’ great miracles, namely, the feeding of the five thousand, walking on water, and healing the Canaanite woman’s daughter. Like the disciples who experienced these things firsthand, by our hearing the Gospel, the Holy Spirit enables us also to confess Jesus as the Christ. This confession is powerful, and with it the Church will not be overcome by its enemies but will prevail. Together we rejoice that our faith is built on the solid rock of Christ and boldly confess that to others.
