He was born Joshua Abraham Norton, but to San Fransisco in the mid 1800s, he was Norton the First, Emperor of The United States and Protector of Mexico. Sure, it was a made up title and he held no actual authority, but that didn't stop the citizens of San Fransisco (and one King of Hawaii) from showing him reverence. This episode dives into the history of Emperor Norton - including some of his more prophetic decrees - and then we collaborate with the AWESOME Shannon and Scott from the Song Salad Podcast! Today we sat and watched a particularly somber musical performance. I don't like being pessimistic, and sometimes observing a sad sight makes you seem mean spirited, but so it goes.

These random assorted vegetables are actually the lyrics to an unreleased song. A song that I wrote the lyrics to.
It's the 4-year anniversary of Song Salad, and to celebrate we're releasing our latest LIVE episode! Recorded at Rob Paravonian's Odd Rock Comedy Hour at QED Astoria in Queens, NY, we took topic & genre suggestions from the audience and wrote our song in about 40 minutes. Here's how it all went down... Writing partners Shannon & Scott tempt the salad spinner of fate as they write a short song about a random topic in a random style of music. It's episode 50! :::drops a funky beat::: How does a local, theater-loving, son of a teacher and a musician grow up to be an #Ableton Programmer and an orchestrator? Well, apparently by accident. Scott Wasserman stumbled into learning the Ableton system while working on a small project called #Hamilton. But he worked REALLY REALLY hard to get that lucky break, and has worked with some of #Broadway's most iconic figures, including Lin-Manuel Miranda, Alex Lacamoire, and Alan Menken. Scott is also the co-host of one of my favorite #podcasts, Song Salad, with his long time friend, lyricist Shannon Deep. Scott recently put up his first full orchestration of an original musical with "Austen's Pride" which is running through April 14. Visit ACT of CT for ticket information. You can see what else Scott has been up to at scott-wasserman.com - including #DearEvanHansen and #TheGreatComet. #musicaltheater #orchestration #ableton #songsalad #keepcreating
We are the very model of a modern history crush podcast this week, we have special guests Shannon (@sldeep) and Scott (@scottwasserman1) from the podcast Song Salad (@songsaladcast) joining us to pit composer and lyricist duos against one another! Gilbert and Sullivan vs. Rodgers and Hart, but only one person can be claimed hottest! Show notes at historicallyhot.com/episodes/musicandlyrics
In this episode, Scott Wasserman (Hamilton's Ableton Programmer) shows love for #HamiltonPR, talks his podcast Song Salad, and goes in on his experience working on Lin-Manuel Miranda's 21 Chump Street. Ep.14: This week we are joined by Shannon and Scott, the lovely people from "Song Salad". Their podcast is incredibly good and we were so happy to have them on DUED. We asked Shannon and Scott to give us a problem to fix so that we could go on and create a product about it. They did. We did. It was hilarious. When you are hosting a party and it's getting late, You want your friends to get out but don't know how to deal with the situation. Well that's when we stepped in and "solved" this our own way, the only way we know. WHO ARE YOU GONNA CALL?? (No not them)
