Five years ago, on March 19th, the Governor issued the stay at home order California needed to survive the Covid pandemic. Covid changed our lives. Some of those changes, like Zoom, are here to stay. Assembly Democrats legislative initiatives helped Californians survive the pandemic. On this episode we look back at the onset of the coronavirus pandemic and talk with current lawmakers, including Assemblymember Dr. Darshana Patel, about their personal Covid stories, how it changed the way the legislature works and what needs to be done to prevent another pandemic.
What's in a name? Lets talk about it. Also, where were you 5 years ago? Exec. Produced by Cyrus Poe
In celebration of the 5-year anniversary of Warriors At Work, I am resharing my first ever interview with the “ultimate mentor and motivator” Jean Otte in early 2020. Experience a special journey into entrepreneurship with the extraordinary Jean Otte, Founder of WOMEN Unlimited, Inc. From Jean's very humble beginnings in London during World War II to the building of a nationally recognized organization, Jean talks openly and honestly about fear, uncertainty and courage as she faced many obstacles over her career. Jean Otte was the embodiment of grit, humor, clarity, ambition, and courage. As my mentor, she challenged anything mediocre. She was direct, intuitive, and never shy about giving advice. Jean had an incredible ability to balance big-picture thinking with tactical execution. She could hold space for fears and insecurities while guiding you toward confident decisions. I still hear her voice when I'm feeling unsure or insecure. Her influence shaped me in ways I can't fully express, and for that, I am deeply grateful. (2:15) Jean shares with us some of her experiences growing up in England during WWII. (8:30) Did Jean's determination and independence come from her experiences while growing up? (12:21) Jean shares her motivation for starting her own company. (21:46) What was Jean's transition like, to move from a corporate position to starting out on her own? (26:40) What were some of the first things Jean did notice that proved her new venture was going to succeed? (31:32) Jean shares how her mentor, Jack Urish, was an integral throughout getting WOMEN Unlimited, Inc. off the ground. (36:18) What has been Jean's greatest accomplishment building this business? (39:23) What was a point of frustration or concern for her during that same time? (42:05) What advice would Jean share for those just starting out? (45:46) Who or what brings Jean joy? What frustrates Jean? What scares her and how does she overcome those fears? Who would she want to meet, alive or dead?(52:06) What daily practice or ritual that keeps Jean alive and connected?Subscribe: Warriors At Work Podcasts Website: https://jeaniecoomber.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/groups/986666321719033/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jeanie_coomber/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/jeanie_coomber LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jeanie-coomber-90973b4/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCbMZ2HyNNyPoeCSqKClBC_w

Our special fifth-anniversary episode! This week, we take a trip down memory lane to reflect on five years of clean energy news, predictions, and surprises. James takes us through just how much progress has been made in clean energy since we started the podcast five years ago. The growth is staggering, even compared to the most optimistic 2020 predictions! The Baltic states have officially disconnected from the Russian power grid and joined the EU grid. Workers literally cut the cord and took pieces home as souvenirs, along with safety, security, and peace of mind. Celebrating Five Years Our first show aired on February 12, 2020, in Brian's bomb shelter studio, where we recorded the first five episodes. How Predictions Held Up Back in 2020, some clean energy forecasts missed the mark—by a lot: A 2020 climate report estimated 2.5 million EVs on the road by 2030. We're at 85 million today, with four years to go. EV Boom in Five Years In 2020, 2.9% of new car sales in Canada were EVs—by the end of 2024, it was 13.2%. There were only 4 million EVs in the world when we started. Now, 4 million EVs are sold every two months. China's Rapid Growth In 2020, China exported 1 million cars. By 2024, that number skyrocketed to 6.4 million. When we started the podcast, there were 8 million EVs worldwide. Now, China alone produces 238,000 plug-in vehicles every day! Join the Clean Club at https://www.patreon.com/c/cleanenergypod for exclusive content, ad-free episodes, and more! The Lightning Round Ozempic is reportedly messing with climate predictions by reducing food consumption. Less food, less pollution! Over $2 trillion was invested in the global energy transition in 2024—a record-breaking amount. The U.K. would need a forest twice the size of London to offset its airport expansion emissions. Oxford University, at 699 years old, is replacing gas heating with heat pumps to cut carbon emissions. The Baltic states successfully cut ties to the Russian power grid and are now fully synchronized with the EU grid. Thank you for five years of listening! Here's to the next five! It's five years this week since we left the EU. Isn't everything going brilliantly? Special guest Anand Menon of UK In A Changing Europe joins us to assess the many, many achievements of Global Britain. Has Brexit changed Britain irrevocably? What destroyed the Tory party: leaving the EU, Liz Truss or Boris Johnson's own hubris? What's the real reason why Labour won't touch this issue? Send us a textFive years of the EstoBro TV Podcast is worth something to celebrate on the holiday the Gents are most thankful for. Matty EstoBro and Theo 'TV' V. have been as thick as thieves since their glory days in college, and they do not plan on stopping curating podcast episodes in their passion project. Join the pair as they take the listening audience in for a vintage feel on how they once originally started the show, by discussing the topics they are most passionate about. Starting off with the sports segment with the 'Good, Bad, and Ugly,' after the results of fight weekend earlier this November (12:00), as they highlight the victory of Jon 'Bones' Jones at UFC 309 and criticize the results of the boxing match between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul. As they turn their attention to the entertainment part of the show, the Gents were right on the mark on how Wicked and Gladiator 2 would do well on their debut at the box office (33:30). With Red One still getting a great deal of flack, they also start dismissing the credibility of MetaCritic with their latest ranking lists: first to be confused of the greatest holiday films of this century, followed by the ranking list of Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson's films that he has starred in. We cannot have entertainment without music (49:50), and the latest news is Kendrick Lamar's latest album dropped with GNX as a surprise release. They also highlight the latest rapper in K-Dot's crosshairs with Lil Wayne, as there has been much speculation of this since the former was selected to perform at the Super Bowl Halftime show in New Orleans. The following segment is the latest in nerd culture (56:40), with the latest nominations for this year's Game of the Year Awards and an update on how anime breaks into the trading card scene with Union Arena. The show concludes with some vintage segment, 'Who has the munchies?' (70:55) going into detail about the proper way to make a Thanksgiving leftovers sandwich and EstoBro's latest entry in the 'Chicken Sandwich Wars.' The Gents want to thank their listening audience for supporting the program over the past 5 years and wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving!Like the song that closes the show? Stephanie has a fun surprise for anyone who has loved the show for some time! She is joined by her husband Jonah, for the first time on the show, to celebrate a momentous milestone: the fifth anniversary of the podcast! Through a heartfelt conversation, they invite you to explore the themes of spiritual growth, understanding God's love, and the journey of faith. They hope to point us to God's faithfulness and the transforming power of His presence. In a world rife with distractions, Stephanie and Jonah invite you to remember our need for intentional presence. They discuss practical steps like spending quiet time with God, paying attention to distractions, and listening to the Holy Spirit's nudges. This investment in intimacy with God allows for discerning His guidance and being His hands and feet in daily life. Scripture challenges us to engage our faith deeply through Christ. Jonah opens up about his spiritual journey, transitioning from a works-based faith, to understanding sanctification as a divine gift through the Holy Spirit's work. He highlights the importance of obedience stemming from gratitude rather than religious vanity, noting the critical need to avoid the pitfalls of pride and self-righteousness. Stephanie asks Jonah about a Bible character he relates to. Jonah finds a connection with King David, appreciating his acknowledgment of grace and his deep yearning for divine presence. He draws a beautiful parallel with an imagined “third brother” in the parable of the prodigal son, the brother who is content simply being in his father's presence. This will inspire you! Make sure to listen. Jonah admires David's profound understanding of grace and his relentless pursuit of God's presence. David's journey, especially as portrayed in Psalm 56 and Psalm 27, serves as a roadmap for seeking God's presence amid crises and life's challenges. Jonah encourages us to embrace God's goodness, trusting Him with our sorrows and tears, much like David did. Jonah's aspiration to reject shallow spirituality is another powerful point. He invites us towards deeper wisdom and joy through God's presence, rather than transient cultural practices, urging us to develop mindful habits centered on Christ. This intentionality in connecting with God's presence is essential in today's distraction-filled world. Stephanie and Jonah provide practical advice for growing in grace and holiness. They emphasize that sanctification should not be self-centered, but focused on reflecting Christ's image on earth. This aligns with God's broader goal for us - of transforming us from within, in order to then share love externally, cultivating an internal source of life that impacts outward actions. As they conclude the episode, Jonah and Stephanie reflect on the journey of Gospel Spice, expressing gratitude for its impact over the past five years. They offer a prayer of thanksgiving for the ministry and its listeners, invoking God's guidance and blessings. Fun Fact from the Episode: Stephanie and Jonah usually chat in French, but for this special episode, they switched to English, making the conversation an adventurous and fun challenge for them both!
