Ask Me How I Know: Multifamily Investor Stories of Struggle to Success
Success fatigue often makes leaders shrink back, fearing growth will look selfish. This episode reframes expansion as stewardship — showing how recalibration multiplies impact without betraying your past.Have you ever hesitated to grow because you worried it would look selfish — like you were leaving people behind or dishonoring what came before? For many high-capacity humans, that fear of “outgrowing” leads to role fatigue, decision fatigue, and the quiet exhaustion of holding back.In this episode of The Recalibration, Julie Holly reframes growth through the lens of stewardship. Drawing from her own tension in shifting from real estate into The Recalibration, and the story of Blake Mycoskie, founder of TOMS Shoes, Julie shows how expansion multiplies impact rather than diminishes it. Mycoskie's One-for-One model demonstrates that scaling isn't betrayal — it's fruitfulness that serves others at greater scale. From an Identity-Level Recalibration (ILR) perspective, the fear of selfish growth often comes from outdated roles:Loyalist — believing you must stay the same to prove gratitude.Servant (distorted) — thinking sacrifice means never taking up more space.Protector — shrinking so others won't feel left behind.Neuroscience calls this dynamic predictive processing: the brain assumes expansion equals disconnection, so it resists change to preserve belonging. But ILR rewires that pattern. It retrains the nervous system to recognize that growth doesn't sever belonging — it strengthens it by multiplying fruit. Here's the mic-drop truth: Without recalibration, growth feels like guilt. With recalibration, growth feels like grace. This isn't another mindset tactic or productivity strategy. It's the root-level recalibration that makes every other tool effective. If you're navigating identity drift, spiritual exhaustion, or the sense that success feels empty, this episode will give you a new frame for expansion — not as ego, but as stewardship.Today's Micro Recalibration:Where am I mistaking expansion for selfishness — when it's actually stewardship? How can I reframe growth as service, not ego?Who benefits when I expand into the fullness of my assignment? If this episode gave you language you've been missing, please rate and review the show so more high-capacity humans can find it. This isn't coaching. This is identity recalibration — and it changes everything.
When the battle comes to your doorstep, are you the man in the arena or just another voice from the couch? In week three of Toy Stories, Scott Nickell sat down on The Cutting Room Floor to unpack what didn't make it into his sermon. From David's courage to Saul's passivity, from critics to shepherds, Scott walks through four pictures of masculinity we all live out and only one of them reflects Jesus. This week's challenge: Ask yourself, “Who in my life is hurting because I'm not protecting them?” Then do something about it. Hosts: Neil Gregory & Scott Nickell What We Discuss: Four pictures of masculinity: the bully, the critic, the soft king, and the good shepherd Why Saul's passivity was more dangerous than Goliath's strength The overlooked influence of David's older brother What it means to be the “man in between” like Jesus Warrior-poets and the power of tenderness + toughness Why initiative is central to biblical manhood Competence vs. calling: why courage matters more than skill The power of stepping up, even when you've failed before About Southland Christian Church Southland is one church meeting in multiple locations across central Kentucky. Read Online“See that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that their angels in heaven always look upon the face of my heavenly Father.” Matthew 18:10The reality of angels is fascinating to most people, especially to children. The Guardian Angels, in particular, are often pictured in sacred art as walking hand-in-hand with children. And though this is true, they also walk hand-in-hand with each one of us throughout our lives. This is their sacred duty given to them by God. In quoting Saint Basil, the Catechism of the Catholic Church explains the existence of Guardian Angels by saying: “From its beginning until death, human life is surrounded by their watchful care and intercession. ‘Beside each believer stands an angel as protector and shepherd leading him to life'” (#336).Imagine, in an earthly sense, that you had a personal bodyguard to look after you day and night throughout your life. Perhaps this evokes two different sentiments. First, it would most certainly comfort you when there is imminent danger around. You would know you are not alone and that you would be kept safe from physical harm. Another sentiment it may invoke is that of a loss of personal privacy. If someone were watching over you, day and night, you would always be aware of their watchful eye. Everything you said and did would be noticed. For some, this may not always be welcome. Why? Because this means they see all you do, including your sin. Fear of judgment, the loss of personal privacy and the like may be difficult to accept. But now imagine that this “bodyguard” is one who offers no judgment, acts with perfect love for you, keeps confidentiality with perfection and cares only for your well-being. Though it may be hard to imagine that such a person could exist, that person does exist in the person of your guardian angel.Your guardian angel is real, has a keen and powerful intellect, has a will perfectly united with the will of God, and was created for the single purpose of protecting you and leading you into the fulfillment of God's will. When you sin and stray, your guardian angel's only concern is to guide you back to God. When you are fearful or in trouble, your guardian angel's only care is to protect you and fill you with God's peace and courage. And though God could have provided you with all of these graces directly, without the mediation of an angel, He chose to do so through the mediation of your personal guardian angel. Only in Heaven will we fully understand the profound depth of love, protection, and care given to us by these angelic beings. Reflect, today, upon the intimate knowledge that your guardian angel has of you. As you ponder this reality, rejoice that someone knows you so well and loves you with a perfect love. This angel of yours not only loves you perfectly but also has been entrusted with great power from God to protect you and shepherd you to the fulfillment of your life mission. Prayerfully acknowledge the great gift that your guardian angel is to you and entrust yourself more fully to this angelic mediation.Angel of God, my guardian dear, to whom God's love commits me here, ever this day be at my side, to light and guard, to rule and guide. Amen. Guardian angel, pray for me. Scripture: David's Psalms. This is the final teaching in the “David…and the Heart of God” series. We will explore David's Psalms today. In 2 Samuel 23:1 we read that David is described as the sweet psalmist of Israel. David's psalms have influence and spoke to the hearts of people for millennia. C.S. Lewis said, “The most valuable thing the psalms do for me is to express that small delight in God which made David dance.” And Billy Graham said, “I used to read five psalms every day - that teaches me how to get along with God. Then I read a chapter of Proverbs every day and that teaches me how to get along with my fellow man.” 75 of the 150 Psalms were written by David. Some themes in David's Psalms with a few examples: Praise - Psalm 95:1-2, Psalm 57:9-11, Psalm 103:1-3. We are encouraged to begin everything with praise, it honors God and brings refreshment to our souls. Praise takes our eyes off ourselves and putts them on God. True meaning for life is found only in God our Savior. David teaches us to praise the Lord from the heart even when we feel like we're at the bottom of the pit, because God heals and His name is to be praised. Penitence - Psalm 32:1-2 & 5, Psalm 139:23-24, Psalm 51:1-2. David's psalms help us recognize we are spiritually poor and needy and we are to be humble before God because we are all sinners. David shows us words of confession for transgression because we can be confident that through faith in Christ, God forgives. Our sins are paid for through Jesus' sacrificial death. The Lord is merciful, He washes away our sin. Presence - Psalm 32:7, Psalm 145:18. God is near, He is present, we cannot flee from Him. His presence gives hope and healing. He is near to all who call Him. He is unfailingly present in our lives. Prayer - Psalm 25:4-5, Psalm 141, 2-4. Psalms are used for prayer, and are a good way to begin our day. They guide us in how to pray honestly before God and we see that through David's prayerful words we can draw near to the Lord. David's Psalms are filled with words asking the Lord for guidance, direction, strength against sin, power for the spiritual battle, and prayers seeking God and His face. Protection - Psalm:1 & 3, Psalm 18:1-2, Psalm 55:18 7 22. The Lord is our Protector and the One who defends us and we are to call upon Him. He is the Stronghold of our lives. God is our Rock, Shield, our Strength, our place of Refuge, our Fortress, our Deliverer. The Lord sustains us and He cares for us. Prophecy - Psalm 110:1, Psalm 22:1 & 16018 & 29-31. David spoke much prophecy about the coming Messiah. David shared prophetic words even about the day that Jesus would be on the cross a thousand years before Jesus' death. David understood prophetically the love of Jesus who would say, “It is finished.” And through prophetic understanding David saw the finished work of Christ. Pastor ends by encouraging us to read through David's Psalms this week: 2-9, 11-32, 34-41, 51-65, 68-70, 86, 95, 101, 103, 108-110, 122, 124, 131, 133, 138-145 Now What? I'm Joe Buttice, and in EP03 of The Uncrowned Podcast we press deeper into what this re-centering really means: God first, faith first, same core values—louder conviction. The Uncrowned is a movement calling men to what God created us to be. Not chasing earthly crowns—walking in calling. If you've felt “unqualified,” this one's for you. I sit down with Benjamin Williams—husband of 22 years, father of 7, church elder, and creator @RelentlessPositivity. Ben shares a raw testimony: hedonism and addiction → Matthew 11:28 → repentance → a life rebuilt in Christ. We talk men's mental health, the emptiness of success without God, and why mission > metrics in content and in life. I open up about rebuilding after addiction and social media burnout, and how purpose got louder when I stopped chasing vanity numbers and started chasing one transformed life at a time. We get real about today's culture—civil discourse, traditional values, and why reclaiming Priest • Provider • Protector isn't a slogan; it's an assignment. Priest: set the spiritual temperature at home and in community (Gen 18:19; Deut 6:7; Josh 24:15). Provider: more than money—presence, formation, worship, brotherhood (1 Tim 5:8; Luke 5:16). Protector: not just locks and fists—tone, patience, emotional safety (Eph 5:25; Jas 1:19; Col 3:19; 1 Pet 3:7). We wrestle with work, economy, and control, then anchor it in Matthew 6:33—seek first the Kingdom, steward hard, and trust God with the rest. We hit idolatry and distraction (“bread and circuses”), and why brotherhood matters now more than ever. If you're looking for a practical primer on the masculine soul, Ben recommends Wild at Heart (Eldredge): a battle to fight, an adventure to live, a beauty to rescue. 7-Day Challenge: Priest: Read 1 Proverb daily and pray out loud for 30 seconds—by name. Provider: Block 1 phone-free hour for wife/kids/brothers this week. Protector: Ask, “What haven't you felt safe to tell me?” Listen. Don't defend. Pray together. If this hit your spirit, follow/subscribe, rate & review, and share with one brother who needs it today. Join the Uncrowned community for accountability and updates on retreats, and if you're ready to build a God-first rule of life—habits, leadership, communication—my 1:1 coaching for men is open. In this week's episode of The Uncrowned Podcast, host Joe Buttice breaks down the three traits of a Godly man—Priest, Provider, Protector—and why Christian masculinity means more than titles. It's a God-first lifestyle: setting the spiritual temperature at home, providing more than money (time, presence, and spiritual formation), and protecting emotionally so your wife and family feel safe to speak truth without fear. Expect Bible-backed principles, short parables, and real-world application for both husbands and single men. If you're ready to stop drifting and start leading with intention, this is your roadmap. You'll learn: What spiritual leadership looks like day-to-day (simple rhythms of prayer, Scripture, and worship). Why provision is more than a paycheck (church, friendships, family worship, and presence). How true protection includes emotional safety, calm tone, and patient listening. A 7-day challenge to live out Priest • Provider • Protector right now. Scripture used (ESV/NKJV): Genesis 18:19 • Deuteronomy 6:7 • Joshua 24:15 • 1 Timothy 5:8 • Luke 5:16 • Ephesians 5:25 • James 1:19 • Colossians 3:19 • 1 Peter 3:7 • Proverbs 15:1 Please don't forget to like, share, and subscribe to the podcast so we can reach as many men as possible! In this deeply moving and powerful episode of The Surviving Siblings® Podcast, host Maya Roffler is joined by Michael Tobin, who shares the raw and unfiltered story of losing his older brother, Jimmy, to homicide in 1992. Over 30 years later, Michael reflects on how this traumatic event shaped his life, his family, and his ongoing mission to keep Jimmy's memory alive. Michael recounts the joys of growing up in a big Irish-Catholic family in the Bronx, the tight-knit neighborhood where breakdancing, graffiti, and hip-hop shaped their youth, and the bond he shared with Jimmy—a wisecracking, creative, loyal soul who was beloved by all who knew him. But in April of 1992, that world was shattered when Jimmy was chased down and killed just 100 yards from their front door.
