Neal Hallford joins to discuss his new book Heroes of Might and Magic: 30th Anniversary Retrospective. The history of HoM&M games is, in many ways, an "epic story" that tells the history of the video game industry and the related human drama in general. Since it's Neal, we also meander into other interesting things, including Planet's Edge, Betrayal at Krondor, and Dungeon Siege (including why they named Farmer "Farmer"). A game company trying to launch seven games all at the same time is probably not the wisest idea. The "box of rocks" approach to writing for games. Neal's new Planet's Edge: Fractured Empires project. Singular vision / small teams versus large teams in game design. Neal has very strong feelings on trends that have hurt the video game industry. What's the connection between Star Trek and Heroes of Might and Magic? The fine line game creators have to walk in making sequels by adding new stuff worth buying, but not changing things so much that it alienates the audience. Trevor joins Paul and David to discuss the God of War videogame series which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. Music: Andre Jetson - Bipolar (Original Mix)
It's hard to believe that Balance Music has been around for 25 years. When we first started, there was no grand plan—just a love for electronic music and a desire to share it. We never imagined that what began as a small project in Australia would grow into something that reaches people all over the world. Later this year, we'll mark this milestone with a huge venture as we travel to Croatia to host Balance Croatia Festival, the first-ever music festival dedicated to progressive and melodic house. This is going to be a moment 25 years in the making, and we couldn't be more excited! Last year, to commemorate the 25 years, close friend of the label and an artist we deeply admire, Joe Miller, curated a countdown of his favourite Balance Series mix and track entries—an effort that showcased his deep connection to the label's history. Now, as he prepares to release his new solo EP, Planet is Far Away, through Anjunadeep later this month, Joe has once again taken the time to celebrate 25 years of Balance Music with a mix that is hard to put into words. This incredible retrospective reimagines key moments from past Balance Series compilations, weaving them together in a way that feels both fresh and deeply familiar. We hope you enjoy this trip down memory lane as much as we do. @joe-miller

In Friday the 13th Part 2, five years have passed since the events of the first film when a summer camp, next to the infamous Camp Crystal Lake, is preparing to open, but the legend of Jason is weighing heavy on the proceedings.. Welcome to Bratzline! It's the moment we've all been waiting for... the live action Bratz movie! But this isn't just any ordinary movie episode of Bratzline, oh no! For this special occasion, we had to bring our Brattitude and not have just one, but TWO special guests! Coco & Dom join us for the FIRST (yes, first!) part of this special double feature podcast extravaganza! In the first part of this double feature, we break DOWN the iconic live action Bratz from 2007! It was the first EVER live action fashion doll movie, we had a lot to discuss, ok? We talk about it ALL, from our own memories, the things we love, things we didn't love, the cast, the behind the scenes, the drama, the fan reception, the dolls, and oh so much more!! If that wasn't enough, on the next episode we'll be breaking down the plot! When I started this podcast, I had been eagerly waiting for this moment, and I'm so excited it's finally here and to share it with all of you! It's a tale of two halves on Dad Bod Rap Pod this week. In the intro segment we take a look back at The Fugees' first album Blunted on Reality, released 30 years ago in the thick of one of hip-hop's best overall years, 1994. For now, let's charitably call it an uneven debut from a group still finding its voice. Please click play on the episode to hear a lot more of our thoughts. This album is full of baffling decisions, yelling, and very few cool moments. After the break, hosts Nate LeBlanc, Demone Carter and David Ma turn our frowns upside down and discuss some of our favorite underground hip-hop releases of 2024 thus far, kind of a halfway through the year check in. We have nuanced takes on and praise for Heems' album LAFANDAR, Mach-Hommy's brilliant RICHAXXHATIAN, and Schoolboy Q's occasionally floaty Blue Lips. It had a budget of just $1 million, a lead actor wearing a toupee, and the baddie in the first draft of the script was a monkey. But the first James Bond film, ‘Dr. No', which began shooting in Jamaica on 16th January, 1962, kicked off a phenomenally successful franchise that's still a staple of cinema today. Its star, Sean Connery, had been picked out by producers after his appearance in a Disney production, but was marketed as a former lorry driver with little acting experience. Concerned that Connery lacked the sophistication of Bond's background, director Terence Young took him on a tour of swish casinos, posh members clubs and his Savile Row tailors. In this episode, Arion, Rebecca and Olly explain how Connery came to improvise one of the movie's most iconic moments; explain why Ian Fleming was first dismissive, then delighted by his casting; and trace the origins of the 007 formula that endures through all of Cubby Broccoli's subsequent productions… Further Reading: • The Bond bunch: the failed contenders for coveted role (The Independent, 2006): https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/films/features/the-bond-bunch-the-failed-contenders-for-coveted-role-423454.html • ‘The Making of DR.
