On this episode of the Nine Finger Chronicles, Dan is joined by Ted Bright to talks about a hunting season that almost didn't happen. Recently Ted's son was found unresponsive in his dorm room. As you can imagine this was a very scary time for Ted and his family. After several days in a coma T.J. begin to make strides towards recovery. Just days after that he was released from the hospital and is on his way towards a full recovery. Although this episode ends with a successful hunting story on a great public land buck, the focus is more on what is truly important in this life, and that is FAMILY. Enjoy! Ted Bright is one of those guys who takes an above average approach to overall health and wellness. Fitness and hunting are both large contributors, with most of his meat consumption coming from wild game, be it venison, wild turkey, or even other "non traditional" types of meat. In this podcast we discuss Ted's primary approach to cooking venison, how he ages meat, why he likes to cook large amounts, like a whole shoulder, at once, and how he incorporates planned secondary dishes from leftovers of the primary meal. His methods are usually artsy in nature, rarely following a set recipe. He also utilizes venison fat much more commonly than the average deer hunter. We also touch on portions better suited for "hot and fast" versus "low and slow", cooking wild turkey, and even an experiment with groundhog. DIY Sportsman is Powered by Simplecast

Another awesome Tales of the Chase show with success in Missouri. Friend of the show Ted Bright got it done in October on a stud 8 pointer, and Nate and Micah get to talk with him about the awesome story behind the hunt. Ted breaks down the pieces he put together as he scouted the property before moving in for the kill. Setting up and preparing for the wind and conditions was crucial for Ted in his success. Another awesome aspect of this hunt is that it was all caught on video. Ted does an awesome job describing his set up, and being patient enough to get the hunt on film. This weeks show is an interview with Ted Bright. Ted is as you might expect a diehard deer hunter who likes prefers the a mobile hunt over a fixed stand. Ted uses a sling or harness to maneuver from tree to tree based on when and where he's finding active big buck sign. Ted is also an archer and seems to prefer this over anything. Something has "clicked" for Ted and says that he just seems to be in tune with finding hunting opportunity and capitalizing on those more than he's ever done before. We go over Ted's approach, hunts from previous years, shooting from muscle memory, and the techniques that he uses to identify a good spot to hunt and how to gain landowner permission. With one month to prepare for an out of state hunt and a little help from his social network, Ted Bright hit the digital scouting hard to look for public ground to hunt in Nebraska. As he was planning for the hunt he realized that using water to access where thought the deer would be lives he decided to bring his kayak to the party. After a 10 hour drive, some boots on the ground scouting, and a full trial run to do some glassing, he was able to locate the deer he wanted to hunt opening morning. At 3:00 a.m. he hopped in his kayak for a 6 mile float, and then a 2.5 mile hike, to find the perfect location to hang his saddle. With little movement that morning, he decided to get down and find a new location for the evening hunt. With light fading fast, a good buck came in from behind him offering Ted a 14 yard shot. The rest is history! Nine Finger Chronicles is Powered by Simplecast

Brought to you by Skull Brew Coffee Co. What's happening folks. Today I'm joined by Ted Bright. Ted is a mobile/saddle hunter who lives in Missouri and had a pretty great year last year with a few bucks good bucks. The kicker is most of his success last year came hunting areas with little intel, relying on e-scouting, and scouting/hunting his way to an area. On today's episode I have a guest you should be familiar with, Ted Bright. Ted and I did a podcast about his deer season last fall where he knocked down a couple of really nice public land bucks in Missouri. Well, he also had a banner season this year turkey hunting as well. Between birds he killed or called in for his son or close friends, Ted totaled up over a half a dozen gobblers this year. It was a significant jump from previous years, so a lot of what we talked about was exactly what he did this year and how it was different from years past. We talk about several of those hunts in detail. The general style is the quintessential run and gun style of hill country hunting. The turkey hunting style Ted has adopted isn't entire a new concept, but it is one that many people try to employ, especially when hunting larger chunks of non-agricultural land. He's refined his strategy and gear list to carry only the absolute essentials, which we go over as well. I hope you enjoy the episode; I certainly did. DIY Sportsman is Powered by Simplecast

There has been so much great feedback from the “Local Legends” series this summer. Thank you all so much for listening! In episode 43, Parker, Drew, and new guest Ted Bright, are breaking down some of the key points that each of our Legends hit on. In a series of podcasts like this, it is very easy to not absorb some of the knowledge that our guests were telling us. So you’re going to get another chance to hear it, and how it could apply to your hunting situation. Thank you to our guests Warren Womack, Jamie McCay, Peter Updike & Rick Kiely for coming on the show and sharing with us. We will be doing this series again next year. This week I am joined by a fellow Saddle Hunter and die hard whitetail hunter, Ted Bright. Ted has a unique way of looking at outcomes in the deer woods that many of us could learn from. Hailing from the land of milk and honey, Missouri, Ted employs Beast style tactics to get deep into areas others may not wish to go in order to chase mature whitetails. He shares his highest high and lowest low while saddle hunting, and we laugh a lot along the way. I hope you enjoy, and if you do, tell a friend! If you'd like to contribute to the show, we now have a Patreon account set up and you donate directly there. Just follow the link below! On this episode we chat with bowhunter Ted Bright as he walks us through his annual hunting trip. But it's not your average whitetail hunt. He includes tents, canoes, and hammocks to give himself the advantage on a piece of public hunting ground somewhere in Missouri. He floats in with all of his gear, hunts for a handful of days from a camp on a riverbank, then floats out. We discuss the strategy he takes to approach this unique hunt and the gear that he uses. This is more than just bowhunting, this is adventure.
