Are you settling for “good enough” when you're called to extraordinary? In this episode of The Vibrant Flow Podcast, Jo shares two simple but powerful stories from the hairdresser's chair that reveal the difference between criticism and celebration, average and exceptional, draining energy and life-giving atmosphere. Here's what you'll learn in this short but powerful episode:
Neither foster care nor homelessness are isolated issues. They both intersect with numerous social issues—including each other. For example, homelessness is a contributing factor to why many children end up in the child welfare system, and it's also a risk factor that can impact youth who are already involved in or aging out of foster care.Of the 173 youth and young adults currently on the Coalition for the Homeless's list for Houston, approximately 25% of them have been involved in foster care in some capacity.Today, we are grateful to have two guests joining us for a conversation on this crucial topic. We sat down for a discussion with Quana Smith, the Manager of Youth Programs at the Coalition for the Homeless (CFTH) in Houston and Harris County, and Danielle Stephen, a passionate young adult who is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of young people experiencing homelessness. In this episode, you'll hear some of the reasons why youth and young adults are facing homelessness, key ways to offer circumstance-changing support, the importance of a caring adult who will go the extra mile, and much more.Find the show notes and links to anything we discussed here: https://riversideproject.org/podcast/smith-stephen-41/
Stephen Grant was laid off from his job at a boutique marketing agency in March 2020, right when COVID took the world hostage. Newly diagnosed with cancer, he needed health insurance, fast — plus, he was the primary financial supporter of his wife and daughters. Which is how he found himself becoming a mail carrier, back in his hometown in rural Appalachia. It was a tough transition. Grant was bad at his job — “deeply incompetent,” he writes in his new memoir, “Mailman.” He is shaken by his lack of real-life skills, by his inability to feel at home in the mountains where he grew up, by his uncertainty in what it means to be in community during a time of isolation. But “Mailman” rarely lingers on the malcontent. Instead, what Grant learned about himself, his fellow Appalachians and our country as a whole propel his new book. He joins host Kerri Miller on this week's Big Books and Bold Ideas to share stories about working as a rural mail carrier, about blue collar versus white collar work, and about the overlooked importance of public service in a fractured nation. Guest: Stephen Starring Grant is a writer and brand strategist. His new memoir is “Mailman: My Wild Ride Delivering the Mail in Appalachia and Finally Finding Home.” Subscribe to the Thread newsletter for the latest book and author news and must-read recommendations.Subscribe to Big Books and Bold Ideas with Kerri Miller on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, RSS or anywhere you get your podcasts.

Hi, I'm John Sorensen, President of Evangelism Explosion International, and you're listening to Share Life Today. How far are we willing to go for the Gospel? Well, I know that it can sometimes feel impossible to even broach the topic of spiritual things with others; but truthfully, it is easier than we think. God provides opportunities for us to share, whether He brings the person to us or asks us to step out in faith and find them. And for some, they are very willing to go the extra mile. Beverly is the National Director of EE in Vanuatu, and it is common for her and her team to pack up a boat and sail across the ocean to another smaller island. And they do this to teach Christians how to confidently and lovingly share their faith, and then they see person after person give their lives to Christ. And if Beverly can do that for Jesus, well…we can too. So who can you go the extra mile to share the Gospel with this week? For more on how you can share your faith, visit sharelife.today. That's sharelife.today.

Matthew 5:38–42 (NIV) 38 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’ 39 But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also. 40 And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well. 41 If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles. 42 Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.

Jesus overturns the principle of “an eye for an eye,” teaching that true discipleship means turning the other cheek, giving generously, and going the extra mile—even for enemies. This challenges worldly justice, modelling God's mercy and love. Through Christ's example of selfless sacrifice, believers are called to break cycles of retaliation, trust in God's provision, and embody a transformative grace that points others to the kingdom of God. We hear four exhortations in these verses: 1. Challenge Conventional Justice (vv. 38–39) 2. Choose Generous Giving (v. 40) 3. Commit to the Extra Mile (v. 41) 4. Convey Christ's Compassion (v. 42)

The greatest challenges for any business include figuring out how to make their product or service stand out amidst a competitive field, attract clients, and drive sales. While large companies may have adequate resources to invest in building a widely recognized brand, most small and medium-sized businesses must rely on marketing strategies that will quickly yield results. John Dwyer, our guest in Episode 225 of The Mindset Game® podcast, is a marketing enigma – a direct response customer attraction expert who thinks way outside of the box. With a mantra that one's marketing needs to “wow” prospects, John's consultancy business is called the Institute of Wow. He helps business owners understand how to exploit platforms like Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and LinkedIn by implementing incentive-based marketing offers that can be targeted specifically to certain audiences. He is also known for shocking the marketing world by convincing Jerry Seinfeld to come out of retirement! In this week's episode, John discusses the following: Why offering incentives for your customers is more effective than other common strategies, such as lowering prices – particularly when the incentives are based on a keen understanding of your target clientele The importance of surrounding yourself with positive people who ask “why not?” instead of “why?” and encourage you to never give up, regardless of the circumstances The 5 components of direct response marketing: highlight someone's problem; aggravate that problem; offer the solution (buying from your business); provide proof, such as testimonials from other clients; and use a strong call to action To access a free digital copy of John's Wow Manifesto, visit www.wowmanifesto.com/gift. One of the most frustrating but empowering parts of being a business coach is seeing where entrepreneurs stop themselves. Often times, they don't even realize that they're stopping themselves. Something very logical comes in their way like personal circumstances, something related to their child, or something seemingly not working in their business. But the truth is that every entrepreneur has had their own obstalces too. The difference is how they move through and past them. Today, I talk to my own coach, Lacey Sites, about going the extra mile. Lacey Sites is the founder of A Lit Up Life, and she is an expert in coaching business owners to set up their business for sustainability. Join us as we discuss: What to do when your business seems not to be thriving how you want it to so that you don't start expending your energy in unnecessary ways Where to shift your focus to so that you can move with the momentum of your business, rather than feeling like you're falling behind How to navigate if something is worth going back to the beginning stage throughout your business when it needs adjustments Visit Lacey's website HERE! In today's episode, we uncover the secrets behind going the extra mile and how it can transform your professional and personal life. Studies show that happier employees, who often go the extra mile, are 12% more productive. Vince Lombardi captured this mindset perfectly: "The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather a lack in will." Going the extra mile enhances your reputation, fosters growth, and opens doors to new opportunities, while doing the bare minimum leads to stagnation and missed chances. To go the extra mile effectively, set clear goals, embrace a growth mindset, pay attention to details, be proactive, and stay positive and resilient. Be strategic in your efforts, focusing on high-impact projects and key relationships to avoid burnout. By balancing your efforts and knowing when to push harder, you can achieve sustained high performance and personal satisfaction. “One thing I learned is our industry sometimes treats our customers very poorly, especially in the aspect of service,” says Dean Simon. “You know, usually when you call into a service of a large provider, you have a minimum hold of 30 minutes to 45 minutes. You get transferred around a few times, and then finally you're talking to somebody and it's an offshore, you know, support person when you have those challenges of communication. So, you spend half of your time on hold, you know, waiting for technology support than actually getting things done. And that's the one thing I wanted to change with line one. I want it to be more of a boutique service provider to our customers to where they can instantly get service on demand 24/7 without that hold time.” In this podcast we learn how Dean took those observations and that determination to make a change. Dean outlines how LineOne is different. Visit https://line.one/

Do you ever wonder what makes 'some' contractors stand out from the crowd? What if we told you it's as simple as 'going the extra mile' for customers? This episode is a deep dive into the contractor-customer relationship. We discuss the importance of referring other contractors, and how crucial it is to have an open and honest approach while doing so. As we share our experiences, we underscore the critical nature of alerting the customer about potential issues that may arise, which they may not be aware of, hence adding value to our service. We also touch on the significance of being observant when in a customer's home. Life's in the details, right? Spotting a potential roof leak or an old softener could strengthen the trust a customer has in you. However, it's not just about identifying issues - we also discuss how to present solutions without being overly salesy. Finally, we broach the subject of customer safety. We explore how taking responsibility for safety, being proactive, and communicating clearly can often lead to upselling opportunities. This episode is a treasure trove of insights for contractors looking to elevate their service game.
