Today on ‘Around the Grounds’ I am thrilled be joined by the fantastically, glorious Myf Warhurst. From Triple J to Spicks and Specks, I’m a Celebrity to co-hosting Eurovision with the marvellous Joel Creasy. Myf is a lover of Dolly Parton and all things kitsch, and she legit bring bundles of joy to everything to touches. I am so thankful I sat next to her years ago at a show Tim ‘Rosso’ Ross and her brother Kit performed at. Tim Ross (aka Rosso) is an Australian comedian, radio host, design enthusiast and television presenter. Rosso is best known for his work as part of the comedy duo Merrick and Rosso with fellow comedian, Merrick Watts. Their partnership began after Merrick saw Rosso play in his comedy band Black Rose and fell in love with his moon boots. They struck up a friendship and the rest, as they say, is history. Together Merrick and Rosso created their own unique style of comedy gig that was more like a band gig than the traditional ‘man and the mic' stand up shows that were popular at the time. After the amazing success of their live shows they were approached to host Triple J breakfast and were then poached to be the launch breakfast show for new Sydney radio station, NOVA. Since parting ways Rosso has continued to work as a stand-up mixing his love of design with comedy in his Man About The House tours. He's also a published author and host of the award-winning ABC TV series, Streets of Your Town. In this episode Rosso talks about how being in a band impacted the live Merrick and Rosso shows, the first time he saw his future comedy partner, Merrick Watts, perform, why Streets of Your Town is the project he's most proud of and how he feels he's changed. Episode show notes: https://rachelcorbett.com.au/ygss/rosso/ About the host... Australian comedian Tim “Rosso” Ross has starred in countless Australian radio and TV series. He’s a writer for Men’s Style Australia, Rolling Stone and Sydney Magazine. He’s interviewed and talked with celebrities like Will Farrell, John C. O’Reilly, and Hugh Jackman through shows such as Merrick and Rosso Unplanned, The B Team, Uncharted, Facing the Hangover, and Australia Versus. He’s a speaker, giving talks on Modernism at the Museum of Sydney, Government House, and Sydney Design Week. And he’s been part of an 80’s hair band called Black Rose, where he totally rocks it in lycra. In 2013 Tim started a unique stand-up show ‘Man about the House’ set in real Modernist houses, with sell-out seasons in Melbourne, Sydney and New Zealand. The best part is, he got up 7am his time to talk with us, for which we are profoundly grateful.
Merrick Watts is a comedian, television and radio presenter best known for his time as part of the comedy duo Merrick & Rosso. Merrick started his career as a solo stand-up before teaming up with Tim “Rosso” Ross after watching him perform in his comedy band, Black Rose. After deciding to work as a duo, Merrick & Rosso quickly made a name for themselves with their unique brand of “pub rock comedy.” After a bunch of sell-out comedy shows they were offered the breakfast gig on Triple J and eventually moved to hosting breakfast for the brand new radio station, NOVA Sydney. After 10 years with NOVA, Merrick was signed to Triple M where he hosted the national drive show, Merrick & The Highway Patrol with me and Jules Schiller. After that show wrapped up Merrick moved to hosting breakfast on Hit1041 and then came back to drive on Triple M with his show, Merrickville. In this episode, Merrick Watts talks about his thoughts on the radio industry, how he's changed over the years, how he met Rosso and why he thinks people should be getting into pre-colonial agriculture (yes, you read that right).
