TCW Podcast Episode 242- Fumito Ueda   Fumito Ueda entered game design through art rather than a love of traditional play. Influenced by titles like Flashback and Another World, he sought to tell stories with minimal interfaces and expansive environments rich in mood. After early work on D and Enemy Zero, Sony gave him a trial period that led to ICO, a game shaped by surreal landscapes inspired by Giorgio de Chirico and a hand-holding mechanic to convey emotional connection. ICO struggled in Japan but became a critical hit abroad, influencing games from Uncharted 3, The Last of Us, Dark Souls, and Journey. Ueda expanded his ideas in Shadow of the Colossus, a meditation on cruelty and consequence that inspired epic boss battles in other franchises such as God of War. His long-delayed The Last Guardian explored companionship through a giant creature, though with mixed reception. Endlich gibt es Gameplay-Einblicke in Project 007: First Light, und das James-Bond-Gefühl stellt sich sofort ein. Die Präsentation erinnert an die Hitman-Reihe von IO Interactive, was keine Überraschung ist, da die talentierten Entwickler auch hinter diesem neuen Bond-Spiel stehen. Auf der Gamescom konnte ich hinter verschlossenen Türen eine Mission erkunden. Durch das Anzeigen wichtiger Objekte konnte ich clever Ablenkungen schaffen und mir Zugang zu gesicherten Bereichen verschaffen.Ob man die Mission nun schleichend angeht oder sich für actionreiche Verfolgungsjagden entscheidet, das Spiel bietet beides. Es fühlt sich an wie ein Mix aus Hitman und Uncharted, wobei es sogar Parallelen zu den jungen Bond-Filmen gibt. Auch wenn es noch eine Weile dauert, bis wir mehr zu sehen bekommen, war das, was ich erleben durfte, ein Actionfeuerwerk auf höchstem Niveau.

There are all kinds of shady and dangerous creatures lurking in the music industry. Since about the mid-20th century, the mob has found ways to extract money by getting involved in record labels, radio stations, artist management, and live music venues. Although things aren't what they used to be, the mob's involvement played a key part in the development of the music industry for decades. One of the key figures in all this ran a New York-based label called “Roulette Records,” which started business in 1957. One of the co-founders was Morris Levy, who got his start in jazz clubs. At his peak, Levy headed 90 companies employing over 900 people, including music publishing, the independent record label game, running record stores, operating record-pressing plants, tape-duplicating facilities, artist management, and a music distribution company. Some called him an “entrepreneur”…but the truth was Morris—“Mo” or “Moishe” to his friends (and a few enemies)—was a crook who controlled far more of the industry than people realized…and much of his business was connected to organized crime. Morris was probably the most mobbed-up music man in history…a lot of people were ripped off for tens of millions of dollars…and more than one person got hurt.
