Really Interesting WomenThe PodcastEpisode 149 Myf WarhurstMyf Warhurst is a beloved Australian broadcaster, television presenter, journalist, writer, and podcaster whose career has spanned nearly three decades. Known for her warmth, wit, and extensive knowledge of music and pop culture, she has become, I'm prepared to make the call, a household name. She started her career as a journalist for music publications which led to a gig on Triple J radio and then Triple M, which led to her being a team captain on the cult tv show Spicks and Specks. She is a host on Eurovision and was the narrator on Rocky Horror Show – I mean, the list is not only incredible...it's almost endless. In particular we chatted about another cult show she's been an integral part of, Bluey. And the words that keep cropping up when describing Myf Warhurst? Authentic and relatable. And those things have gained her a lot of fans over the decades. And I reckon those qualities might have started developing themselves in Myf a long time ago, because she grew up in regional Victoria and that had a profound impact on her and shaped her career. Amongst other things, it instilled in her a deep appreciation for music, community, and storytelling that would become the foundation of her very successful work in Australian media. Whether you're a long-time fan or just discovering her, Myf Warhurst's story is great and really worth listening to. She's learnt a lot on her journey in an industry which is not always known for the longevity of its participants. Myf is an exception. And when you hear our conversation, you'll understand why. In this episode of Let's Talk, Yvie Jones engages in a heartfelt conversation about body image and self-acceptance as she speaks with broadcaster Myf Warhurst, research psychologist Professor Navjot Bhullar, endocrinologist Dr. Yvonne Chow, and actor and singer Mia Morrissey. Together, they delve into the complexities of body image in women, and why women are disproportionately impacted by body dissatisfaction and eating disorders. This discussion looks at various areas across a woman’s life span, including Myf's personal journey with aging and relationships, the psychological impact of societal standards as explained by Navjot, and Yvonne's insights on the role of hormones in a woman’s experience of her body over time. Mia shares her own experience with an eating disorder, and how physical health challenges alongside appearance ideals influenced her well-being. In the end, the episode calls for more understanding and kindness towards ourselves and our bodies. For the sake of all women, it’s time to resist toxic social prescriptions by basing our value on the way that we look. Joel threw open the doors to his Melbourne Comedy Festival show Thanks For Being Here and, mate, the who's who of reality royalty and Aussie faves turned up. Picture Gamble and Pettifleur sippin’ bubbles with Dr Kate, Susie and Kyla from Housewives, Ash Pollard, Lucy Durack, Khanh Ong, Zoe Badwi, Myf Warhurst, Grant Denyer, Urzila Carlson… and that's just scratching the surface. It was basically a Logies afterparty but with more laughs and less awkward speeches. Meanwhile, Robert Irwin’s stripped off for Bonds — There are lizards, snakes, spiders... and a fair bit of crikey energy. Steve would be proud.Plus, it’s New Music Friday and we meet Delia—Britain’s first female bouncer who wants to rebrand herself as an “ejection technician”. Honestly, same.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

It's another big week but all good, Myf and Zan are here to make sense of it all for you. And oh boy, the internet has delivered. In Detroit, a Bridgerton themed "experience" is drawing comparisons to the Wonka debacle early 2024 (and obvs we are all in). Speaking of period drama, Wuthering Heights is getting another remake, but fans aren't too happy about the casting of Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi.Live streams are going off for a Thai zoo and we have Moo Deng to thank. The baby hippopotamus is still at her adorable, CBF best (ahead of her deadly, will kill anything that crosses her era), and we can't look away. But Pesto is coming in hot, a cuddly big boi of a penguin closer to home. We're unzipping Double J's "Filthy Fifty" to see if the list of the best f**king songs correlates to our own soundtrack, and banging on about new TV comedy The English Teacher, and French TV show La Maison. This episode contains strong language.Kylie Minogue tour: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-09-19/kylie-minogue-2025-australian-tour-dates-new-album-tension-ii/104373652Take 5: https://iview.abc.net.au/show/take-5-with-zan-roweDetroit Bridgerton Party: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-09-25/bridgerton-ball-detroit-disappointment/104393770Wuthering Heights: https://www.pedestrian.tv/entertainment/wuthering-heights-javob-elordi-margot-robbie-cast/Moo Deng: https://www.pedestrian.tv/entertainment/moo-deng-livestream/Pesto: https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cp3w4nld5e3oFilthy Fifty: https://www.abc.net.au/listen/doublej/music-reads/features/filthy-fifty-50-great-sex-songs/104371738La Maison: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RnJ_HEM1CB4The English Teacher: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfvKrsaZrEA&ab_channel=FXNetworksBang On Merch Store: https://sound-merch.com.au/collections/bang-on-liveBang Back to us: bangon.podcast@abc.net.auBang On is an ABC podcast, produced by Double J. We love a red carpet, we love an awards ceremony, we love the Emmys. Myf and Zan are back with a whole lot of music chat this week. As we press record the 40th annual MTV VMAs are on; always the most cooked red carpet of the year. The CMA Awards announced its nominations, and Beyonce is a glaring omission... We explore why.Kendrick Lamar has been announced as headliner for the sports concert with the Super Bowl Halftime Show as it's crowning moment. And Taylor Swift has come out and officially endorsed Kamala Harris (we are here for her sign off).Meanwhile Dave Grohl has knocked language out of the park with his weasel word announcement of an affair, and it's a loving farewell to the voice of our childhood: the iconic James Earl Jones. And we're digging into the wild docuseries Chimp Crazy, and banging on about an Isabelle Allende book and Netflix's new series A Perfect Couple.Beyonce CMA snub: https://www.nytimes.com/2024/09/09/arts/music/beyonce-cmas-nominations-cowboy-carter.html?smid=url-shareKendrick Lamar Superbowl: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oIEKK_j0fss&ab_channel=KendrickLamarTaylor Swift endorsement: https://www.instagram.com/taylorswift/p/C_wtAOKOW1z/?hl=enDave Grohl affair: https://www.instagram.com/davestruestories/p/C_v4WBbyxnd/?hl=enJames Earl Jones: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-09-10/james-earl-jones-star-wars-the-lion-king-the-simpsons/104331850VMAs red carpet: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-09-12/vma-red-carpet/104336406Chimp Crazy: https://binge.com.au/shows/show-chimp-crazy!30032The Soul of a Woman: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/54075385-the-soul-of-a-womanThe Perfect Couple: https://www.netflix.com/title/81474158Bang On Merch Store: https://sound-merch.com.au/collections/bang-on-liveBang Back to us: bangon.podcast@abc.net.auBang On is an ABC podcast, produced by Double J. We're living in the era of the music documentary. From the big screen to streaming to social media, films about our favourite artists are everywhere. But where to start? Well, Myf and Zan have done God's work and watched a bunch of them.Inspired by the great lineup of music docos on the Melbourne International Film Festival program, this week Myf and Zan are talking about some of their faves. There's new films about electro punk pioneer Peaches and cult Irish hip-hop act Kneecap; films that chart the rise and fall of icons like ABBA and Whitney Houston; and there's those goosebump-inducing moments on film that capture transcendent performers at their peak.Melbourne International Film Festival: https://miff.com.au/Double J's 19 music documentaries you can (legally) stream for free right now: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-04-23/stream-music-documentaries-free/12178630ABBA: Against the Odds: https://iview.abc.net.au/show/abba-against-the-oddsFreddie Mercury: The Great Pretender: https://www.sbs.com.au/ondemand/tv-program/freddie-mercury-the-great-pretender/1350182979700Whitney: https://iview.abc.net.au/show/whitney20 Feet From Stardom: https://www.sbs.com.au/ondemand/movie/20-feet-from-stardom/1985674819552Blasko: https://iview.abc.net.au/show/blasko/video/AC1541H001S00The Greatest Night In Pop: https://www.netflix.com/au/title/81720500?src=tudumWham: https://www.netflix.com/au/title/81137188?src=tudumABC Logie Awards Nominees 2024: https://iview.abc.net.au/collection/1374Bang Back to us: bangon.podcast@abc.net.auBang On Live: https://www.abc.net.au/abceventsBang On is an ABC podcast, produced by Double J. Spoiler alert! This week, it's all about woman of the moment Celine Dion and the new documentary that's given us all a new appreciation of the superstar singer.I Am: Celine Dion follows Celine as she deals with the aftermath of her diagnosis with stiff person syndrome. It's a confronting look at the harrowing physical toll the illness has taken on her health and her voice. We learn about her upbringing as one of 14 children, go behind the scenes into her warehouse of extraordinary farshun, and get a peek into her everyday life - from the most orderly sock drawer you'll ever see to her kids' bonkers gaming room. And of course Myf and Zan have LOTS of thoughts: about celebrity, health, ageing, perfection and an an old-school entertainer who's given an extraordinary window into her life.Celine Dion: I Am: https://www.primevideo.com/detail/I-Am-Celine-Dion/0KESUWINP6U93HJ0FEZUVWNDZKBang Back to us: bangon.podcast@abc.net.auProduced by: Caitlin NienaberBang On is an ABC podcast, produced by Double J. It's been a very EXTRA week, and so we're going early cos frankly we're busting to unpack it all. The Paris Olympics Opening Ceremony is camp AF and we're here for Blue Man Group Dionysis, Renaissance horsewoman, a ménage a trois nod, and death metal beheadings of Marie Antoinette. Obvs we're on the floor watching Celine's return. Wow.CD's are having a renaissance of their own, thanks mainly to T Swift, but a sweet editorial has us reminiscing about the beloved compact disc and the memories they hold. And on the anniversary of Sinead O'Connor's death, a wax figure has been unveiled in Dublin. It's not good.Bang Fam have been DM'ing us the Alexander McQueen hoof boots left right and centre too, and trotting down the runway with this hairy FARSHUN. Myf and Zan are back and boy howdy there's a lot to catch up on. Take 5 has been nominated for a Logie (!) and we're looking at you, Bang Fam, to nab the win.Charli XCX has invited Lorde onto a remix of a song reportedly about her. What results is one of the most beautiful displays of radical vulnerability we've heard, and it gets us thinking about the pitting of pop stars against one another, and how the new guard of stars is rewriting the rules.Justin Timberlake has had a "tough week", while in Paris we've just discovered Vogue World and we are all in on this circus madness. Queens reign supreme this week! Dolly Parton has announced a new Broadway musical based on her life, and we are already booking our flights to New York. Just when we think it's been a quiet week, the internet proves us wrong. A TikTok comedian has gotten answers to the questions many journo's have been asking of Baz Luhrmann, streetside in Sydney. Alec and Hilaria Baldwin have launched a new reality TV show about their lives (in strange timing...), and the Tillies squad has been announced for the Paris Olympics. It feels like it's been a bit of a pile on for J Lo lately, and it speaks to a whole lot more than poor ticket sales. Why is women's ambition so misunderstood? Meanwhile, it's a big week for shoes, as Rupert Murdoch keeps it casual on his wedding day and Miley elevates her treadmill time with some slingbacks. Whoosh, it's been a big week and a half and we're here to make sense of it for you and provide a bit of respite. The exhaustion and anger felt by women in the last couple of weeks can't go unmentioned, and we share our thoughts about this endless, frustrating conversation around women's right to live safely.Cosmopolitan magazine is making a return as an actual glossy, our Nicole has just made history in America, and Myf is vindicated by the public's feelings on the perfect movie length.Jerry Seinfeld has joined the ranks of blokes of a certain age with opinions on political correctness, so we're going to match him by giving our thoughts on Unfrosted. And a new podcast series from Courtney Love has been getting attention for all the wrong (and predictable) reasons. As the reviews roll in for Back to Black, Laura Snapes has a particular gripe about the Amy Winehouse narrative that Zan is behind 100%. And get ready for even more music biopics, as we left you know what's in production (including some breaking news). The Willy Wonka experience continues to give us life; it's now on tour to Los Angeles and Zack Galifianakis is on board to boot! So, what's the verdict? It's a big week for art, as we catch up on the MONA Museum court ruling for their Ladies Lounge.
