Alabama Saltwater Fishing Report

The episode features three fishing reports from local captains discussing the current fishing conditions along the Alabama Gulf Coast. Captain Jay O'Brien from Irish Wake Fishing reported challenging fishing conditions due to windy and dirty water. He's been successfully catching redfish and trout using artificial lures like Mirror Lure Catch 2000 and K-Wigglers, with live shrimp and croakers also producing bites. The key strategies have been using suspending lures, working baits slowly, and moving frequently to find active fish. We also talked with Capt. Jay about his upcoming tournament, The Tripletail Championship.  Captain Skipper Thierry from Captain Mike's Deep Sea Fishing shared an offshore report, noting they've been fishing far offshore due to dirty water conditions. They caught yellowfin tuna using various methods including dead chunks, live baiting, and kite fishing, with limited success. The trip involved dealing with extensive grass and challenging conditions. They also caught trigger fish, bee liners, and saw some small mahi-mahi. Captain Tanner Deas from Dauphin Island Fishing Charters discussed land-based and boat fishing. He's been catching numerous redfish and puppy drum using live shrimp on Carolina rigs, with bonus catches of sheepshead, pompano, and flounder. He noted dark-colored lures and working baits with a fast, top-water-like retrieve have been effective. The overall theme was adapting to windy, dirty water conditions and using live bait and specific lure techniques to catch fish. Also, in this episode we talk with Nick Haddad from Return Em Right about how to get the best pictures of fish and how to handle them properly to get the best picture and also release the fish healthily.    Sponsors: Fishbites Dixie Supply and Baker Metal Killerdock Test Calibration Coastal Connection EXP Realty Great Days Outdoors Hilton's Realtime Navigator Bucks Island Marine Salts Gone Shoreline Plastics Saunders Yachtworks East Pass Broadbill Open Survival at Sea Tohatsu

NEWS WEAKLY 159 – EDITORIAL EDITIONA podcast where we punch the news in the headlines… weakly.Title: The Hypernormalisation of Journalistic Jingoism Summary:A few weeks ago, India and Pakistan were one bad decision away from nuclear war. But you wouldn't know that from the news coverage. You'd think Karachi had been flattened, Pakistani generals were surrendering en masse, and Indian fighter jets had laser-blasted their way to the gates of Islamabad—if you watched Indian TV news, that is. Spoiler: none of it happened. What did happen was a masterclass in disinformation, state propaganda, media jingoism, and the dangerous, ridiculous, terrifying theatre of war-as-content.In this special editorial edition, Sami Shah takes a blowtorch to the concept of hypernormalisation—where fake news becomes realer than truth, and everyone knows it's bullshit but plays along anyway. From the USS Maine to Vietnam, from Colin Powell's slideshow to Karachi's imaginary destruction to from Pakistan's own delusions—we trace the long, painful, deeply stupid history of war narratives shaped not by fact, but by flag-waving fantasy. And we end where it matters most: here in Australia. With one last bastion against this wave of reality-denial. A flawed, bald-headed, beige-toned but vital institution: the ABC. Why public broadcasting matters more than ever. And why we lose it at our peril.Quote of the Week:“I don't know why but there needs to be a study into whether approving another season of Hard Quiz results in male pattern baldness or being bald predisposes one to approving another season of Spicks and Specks.”Support the ShowLike your news satire free-range, cruelty-free, and ad-free?Join the News Weakly Patreon at patreon.com/samishah for scripts, exclusives, and bonus content.CreditsSami Shah is a multi-award-winning comedian, writer, journalist, and broadcaster. For more: http://thesamishah.comTheme music “Historic Anticipation” by Paul MottramThis podcast is written, hosted, and produced by Sami Shah. She is a host on Eurovision and was the narrator on Rocky Horror Show – I mean, the list is not only incredible...it's almost endless.   Captain Branden Collier and Matthew Isbell (Bama Beach Bum). Captain Branden discusses wade fishing and near-shore fishing, noting that sheepshead fishing is slowing down but still productive. He shared tips about fishing techniques, baits like worms and crabs, and recommended looking for areas with bait activity and structure. Matthew Isbell focused on beach fishing, particularly pompano and flounder. He described challenges with recent rain and wind affecting water conditions, and shared a detailed technique for flounder fishing involving using a tandem rig with two paddle tails and a unique slow-reel presentation that significantly increased his catch. Both guests provided insights into current fishing conditions along the Alabama coast, discussing water temperatures, bait strategies, and promising fishing locations. For the offshore report, Captain Kendall Annan from Gulf Rebel Charters discusses his recent fishing trips in the Orange Beach Gulf Shores area. Despite windy conditions, he successfully targeted bottom fish like bee liners, white snapper, triggerfish, and tuna. He faced challenges due to a full moon phase, heavy currents, and fatigue among his clients. They caught over 130 bottom fish, including large blackfin tuna. Captain Kendall emphasized the importance of using descending devices to release out-of-season fish, which significantly reduces predation. He also highlighted the effectiveness of live bait and jigging techniques.    Sponsors:   Salts Gone CCA Alabama Shoreline Plastics Southeastern Pond Management Test Calibration Alabama Marine Resources Angelo Depaola EXP Realty "The Coastal Connection" KillerDock Fishbites Hilton's Offshore Charts Pure Flats- The Slick Lure Gulf Shores and Orange Beach Tourism Foster Contracting - Fortified Roofing Bucks Island Return Em Right AFTCO Texas Hunter Products Bucks Island Hiltons Realtime Navigator Dixie Supply and Baker Metal Works The Obsession Outdoors Survival at Sea Tohatsu East Pass Broadbill Open BOW Bluewater Marine Service Saunders Yachtworks

The Kingdom of God ~ Specks, Planks, and Pearls (Matthew 7:1-6) Today we explore one of Jesus' most quoted and often misunderstood teachings: “Do not judge, or you too will be judged.” We'll look at what Jesus meant by this challenging command, considering how we're called to navigate the delicate balance of judgment, discernment, and mercy. How do we help each other grow while resisting the urge to criticize or condemn? Together, we'll unpack the wisdom Jesus offers in Matthew 7, learning how to examine our own hearts before we seek to influence others. In a world quick to judge, this message invites us to reflect on our interactions and relationships through the lens of grace and humility. Together we'll see Jesus' call to self-examination can shape us into a community marked by empathy, patience, and mercy.Need Prayer? West of San Antonio, where the Chihuahua Desert and Brush County collide it's dry. Real dry. But there exist one of the most unique and best-kept secrets in North America waterfowl hunting. Renowned since forever for world-class muy grande white-tails on vast private ranches, the region also harbors ducks, speckle bellies and sandhill cranes that've long been disregarded by locals and remain relatively unpressured. Enter Speck Ops Waterfowl. Luke Bledsoe and wife, Jillian, describe moving to the area, amassing and covering a hunting area best described as a 500-mile triangle, hunting practically every Central Flyway duck species--to include some real prizes--delivering lodging experiences unlike anywhere else, and their long-term vision. Sounds so good that we make plans to maybe do a couples trip there next year!   Related Link: Texas Waterfowl Hunt Desert Paradise https://www.getducks.com/ushunts/texas-waterfowl-hunt-desert-paradise/     Visit MOJO's Duck Season Somewhere Podcast Sponsors:   MOJO Outdoors  Benelli Shotguns BOSS Shotshells Ducks Unlimited  Flash Back Decoys  HuntProof Premium Waterfowl App Inukshuk Professional Dog Food  Tetra Hearing Tom Beckbe Voormi GetDucks.com USHuntList.com     Please subscribe, rate and review Mojo's Duck Season Somewhere podcast. Have you ever heard a recording of your voice and found it jarring? It sounds so different from the sound in your head. To hear your own voice accurately, you need to listen closely. The same applies to our faults. We often criticize others while ignoring our own shortcomings. Jesus said, "Judge not, that you be not judged." He calls us to examine our own failures—the log in our eye—before pointing out someone else's speck. He invites us to truly listen to ourselves for an accurate self-assessment.
