Outlouders, enjoy this free nibble of Mia Freedman. Listen to the full conversation — Love Story Part 2: Jackie O, The Kennedys & That Fight Scene— at 5 pm TODAY. What do you mean, you're not a subscriber yet? Solve that problem HERE. Mia & Amelia are (still) obsessed with Carolyn Bessette Kennedy (CBK) so they’re back for Part 2 of their deep dive into the TV series Love Story. From Naomi Watts’ depiction of real-life icon Jackie O to the complex roles of Darryl Hannah and the Kennedy matriarchs, they’re unpacking what it must have been like to marry into the complicated Kennedy family. Plus, Mia and Amelia examine the toxic dynamics that defined the couple’s public life and break down that infamous Central Park fight scene. Was it a moment of passion, or was it "emotional dysregulation"? They also discuss the poignant newsletter from the couple’s close friend Carole Radziwill, who explains why she refuses to watch the show and the unsettling question of whether why the dead are never allowed to rest in peace in the age of AI. It’s a raw and slightly uncomfortable look at how we consume the tragedies of the past as modern entertainment. Remember, this is your free sample of today's subs episode. America and Israel have launched an attack on Iran, and while the world watches the fallout of "Epic Fury," we’re looking at what comes next. Our Amelia Lester, also an editor at Foreign Policy, is here to explain why the US acted without Congress, why Australia is one of the few Western voices in support, and whether this is the kind of international meddling Donald Trump promised to avoid? Plus, Carolyn Bessette and JFK Jnr’s Love Story has triggered a wave of nostalgia for those who lived through the 90s, and 'fauxstalgia' for those who like to imagine a world that didn't involve an endless scroll. Clare Stephens wants to know what life was like when we lived with two hands, and not with one constantly on our phones. And, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie have been snubbed, finding themselves uninvited from a major royal event. So are they being punished for the sins of their parents, or, Holly Wainwright wants to know, is this the beginning of William’s royal trim down? Also, we’ve got the definitive list of songs NOT to listen to when you’re driving. And… Bad Bunny, Harry Styles and the ridiculous joy of watching men dance. It’s the season to blame Tyra. Netflix’s new America’s Next Top Model doco has us spiraling back to 2003. It shows us the size-zero era through a 2026 lens, when Tyra Banks was breaking barriers while also showcasing some of the show's seriously batshit behaviour —from models posing as murder victims to 'makeovers' that involved pulling teeth. Now we’re in the MAFS era Clare Stephens wants to know: is every generation’s reality TV show of choice just programmed to prompt outrage? Also, today is Jessie’s last day before she goes off on maternity leave. But not before a chaotic handover to her twin, Clare. As Clare prepares to take the seat, she’s re-learning the 'rules' of being an Out Loud host. In other business, does your personality need a mini-makeover of its own? We’re talking 'micro-reinvention' — not big deals like quitting your job; more small shifts like adopting a signature condiment or finally becoming a 'Pilates person'. Holly, for instance, is wearing brown. Big deal. Huge. SUBSCRIBE here: Support independent women's media Recommendations Clare recommends the "Brick"—a physical device that locks you out of your apps to fight phone addiction. Jessie recommends L’Occitane Osmanthus Abricot shower gel or DedCool Taunt Hand and Body Wash for the ultimate vibe shift. Holly recommends Eric Dane: Famous Last Words on Netflix—a raw interview with a man who has nothing left to lose. What To Listen To Next: Listen to our latest episode: Oh Sh*t. Parents of children who are 'short sleepers' — kids genetically programmed to survive on four hours of rest (and pure chaos) — we see you. We unpack the science on Parenting Out Loud this week of why some kids are simply 'built different'... and why the rest of us are drowning in caffeine. Plus, we need to talk about the fetishisation of the 'Involved Father'. From Chris Hemsworth’s commemorative tattoos to the rise of the ‘Swiftie Dad,’ why does society throw a parade when a man does the bare minimum, yet side-eye Bobby Cannavale for skipping the Golden Globes to go to a reptile expo? (Justice for Bobby, tbh). And, ex-One Directioner Zayn Malik is single-handedly causing Tooth Fairy inflation, but the real digital horror story is the school Facebook group. Is opting out of the 'digital footprint' a smart move, or does it just make you the ‘weird’ privacy parent who everyone is accidentally tagging anyway? Our Recommendations:
On today’s show, we’re fresh off the latest wave of period-drama longing and scandal, which got us thinking… what are the greatest secret love stories TV has ever given us?We’re talking about the couples who had to hide everything. The forbidden romances. The relationships conducted in shadowy corners, behind closed doors, and across enemy lines. From the most controversial teacher-student storyline of the 2010s (yes, we’re going there), to a superhero slow burn where one very specific piece of jewellery kept two people apart for years… we unpack the romances that thrived on secrecy.Enemies to lovers. Illicit affairs. Hidden identities. Fake suburban bliss. Nothing bonds a couple quite like having absolutely everything to lose.Plus, Mon desperately wants you to listen to our Brutally Honest Review of Twilight here. Outlouders, enjoy this free bite of Mia Freedman. Catch the full conversation — Oh Sh*t. We Let Creeps Decide Our Beauty Standards — at 5 pm TODAY. Not a subscriber yet? Put matters right HERE. When a newsletter has the internet in a chokehold, you better believe that Mia Freedman has to unpack it. And so it is with the recent Substack from Jameela Jamil. Writing from what Jamil calls the "funeral of the body positivity movement," she posits a theory that is as provocative as it is dark: that the obsession with extreme thinness, hairlessness, and agelessness isn't just about vanity — it’s a standard designed to mimic the aesthetics of children. Jessie and Holly join Mia to dive deep into the sinister framework of the 'sexy baby' trope, questioning why grown women are taught to spend their lives trying to get back to a body they had at thirteen. Is the 'Epstein-ness' of this current cultural moment exposing a wider fetishisation of youth among the world's most powerful men? Or is Jamil's critique of the homogenised look of our favourite female stars—from Sabrina Carpenter to Taylor Swift—unfairly judging their "sparkly underpants" choice? "Your body is not meant to look the same at 28 as it did at 18." Is it time to reclaim our waistlines, our wrinkles, and our right to look like grown-ass women? Mia has thoughts — and we're pretty sure you do too. Remember, this is your free sample of today's subs episode. The full debrief drops for subscribers at 5pm. Leigh and Kelly are back with some top-tier product recommendations, from Leigh’s ultimate lipstick for people who hate lipstick, to Kelly McCarren in a bottle (it’ll make sense once you’ve listened!). On today’s episode of Spendy Savey, the team shares their best skincare, makeup, hair, body and fragrance recommendations. Leigh’s Spendy is a smudgey, foolproof matte lipstick that feels like you’re wearing nothing – no lip liner required! She also recommends not one, but two glowy skin products for face and body that cost $25 (or less). Spoiler: The first is a viral chemist-brand bargain that resembles the iconic (and exxy) Hourglass powders, and the second is a body oil that looks like a hand sanitizer and feels like lube, but leaves body skin glowy and hydrating. Meanwhile, Kelly shares the most expensive makeup brush she’s ever recommended, but it’s fine, because it’s actually two brushes for the price of one. Plus, meet the lighter, more refreshing version of Kelly’s all-time favourite fragrance, and the new Tarte lip products Leigh lost her mind over. EVERYTHING MENTIONED: SPENDY Leigh: Merit Signature Lip Blush in Gamay, $44. Kelly: Hourglass Veil™ Powder Brush, $114. SAVEY Leigh: Vaseline Intensive Care Cocoa Radiant Revitalizing Body Oil, $14. Kelly: Elizabeth Arden Green Tea Scent Spray, $41, and Elizabeth Arden Green Tea Fine Fragrance Mist, $10. NEWBIE: Leigh: Covergirl TruBlend Skin Enhancer Baked Luminous Bronzer, $24.95, and Covergirl TruBlend Skin Enhancer Baked Luminous Blush, $24.95. Kelly: Tarte Maracuja Juicy Lip Plump Liner With Charm (Limited Edition), $46, and Tarte Maracuja Juicy Lip Gloss With Charm (Limited Edition), $46. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has landed in hot water after using a single word to describe former Australian of the Year Grace Tame... difficult. While the PM has since apologised and clarified he was referring to Tame’s "difficult life" rather than her personality, the comment has reignited a fierce debate about the labels used to silence women who refuse to "play nice". Today we're exploring the long lineage of "difficult" women who were once written off by the powerful, only to later be celebrated as icons who changed the world. Today, if you’re an Australian with even a drop of British or Irish blood, Amelia has a warning that might cost you hundreds of dollars. And, is it okay for celebrities to ask us for money? After the deaths of millennial TV icons James Van Der Beek and Eric Dane, their families have started GoFundMe campaigns — and not everyone’s happy about it. Holly, Jessie, and Amelia have very different takes on whether it’s okay to solicit for donations when you live on a multi-million dollar ranch. Also, the new Married At First Sight villain,Tyson has landed. Jessie thinks his quest for a 'submissive' woman and his 'manosphere' vibes reflect what women are dealing with out in the dating world. While Holly‘s pearls are clutched about the podcast he’s doubtless going to start when he leaves the show. So, ‘should’ this man be on primetime TV? Plus, a listener dilemma we can’t stop talking about. Vanessa is overwhelmed, over-worked, and considering quitting her job because her husband’s 'big career' has left her doing 100 percent of the heavy-lifting at home. Jessie says "life is long, just quit," while Holly is asking: if every woman is making the 'choice' to scale back, is it actually a choice at all?Plus, we deep dive into PHAARC — the probably not real (but very relatable) 'medical' condition currently ruining your work life. In June 2016, Karen Ristevski vanished from her home. Her husband, Borce, told their daughter she had gone for a walk and never returned. For months, police and family searched in vain. Then, in February 2017, hikers stumbled upon her skeletal remains in a quiet nature reserve. Police pieced together CCTV footage and phone records, leading to Borce’s arrest. He pleaded guilty to manslaughter in 2019, after prosecutors were unable to prove intent. Now, 7NEWS Investigations Editor Alison Sandy is digging deeper, not just into Karen’s case, but into a disturbing pattern: women whose deaths could have been prevented or discovered earlier, had the warning signs of escalating intimate partner violence been recognised sooner. Is it really possible to have an “acidic vagina” from taking too many probiotics? Why are we often sold a “Barbie doll” version of what our anatomy “should” look like? And, how do you actually start exercising as a self-proclaimed “lazy girl”? In this episode, Claire and Dr Mariam speak to Dr Mandy Hagstrom, an accredited exercise scientist and Associate Professor at UNSW, to find out how to get the biggest bang for your buck when it comes to exercise. They discuss the “weekend warrior” approach, why women might need less exercise than men to see the same longevity benefits and they explore cardio vs weight training. They also talk about why your exercise timing doesn't actually matter, debunking the social media myth that fasted morning workouts are the magic pill for fat loss. Plus, in Med School, we dive into the world of "spicy" vaginas. We look at the viral claim of "acidic vagina" syndrome, whether you can actually overdose on probiotics and why your lady parts are essentially a self-cleaning oven that doesn't need micromanaging. And, in our Quick Consult, Dr Mariam answers Amelia’s question about whether it’s normal for her vulva to be wrinkly or discoloured. We strip away the expectations and celebrate the "50 shades of beige, pink and purple" that make up real, healthy anatomy. Outlouders, enjoy this free bite of Mia Freedman and Amelia Lester. Catch the full conversation — Mia & Amelia On CBK: The Clothes, The Curse, The Love Story — at 5 pm TODAY. Not a subscriber yet? That can all change here. There are two kinds of people: those obsessed with Carolyn Bessette Kennedy (CBK) and those who just don’t get it. Mia Freeman and Amelia Lester are firmly in the first camp. From Calvin Klein salesgirl to the most scrutinised woman in New York, Carolyn became a 90s' style legend — without ever giving an interview. Her marriage to John F. Kennedy Jr. turned her into paparazzi prey, her minimal wardrobe into a fashion blueprint, and her silence into an industry of speculation. On today's subs episode, Mia and Amelia dive into Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette, the long-awaited dramatisation that had CBK obsessives in meltdown over wigs, hemlines and handbags. The show is a love story, but it’s also a slow-motion warning about paparazzi culture, pre-social media fame, and a woman who saw celebrity as a liability.Remember, this is your free sample of today's subs episode. The leading lady for the upcoming movie Beach Read, based on the novel of the same name by Emily Henry, has been confirmed, and it’s what fans have been dreaming of. Now we’ve got a lead on which actor will be starring opposite her, and you might not like our findings. And on paper Timothée Chalamet and Matthew McConaughey might not seem like the same person but they absolutely are. The two actors did a joint and very rogue interview this week, and we need to unpack all the reveals, including one that scarred us for life.Plus, Hilary Duff has embarked on an extensive press tour to promote her album and upcoming tour, and she’s uttered a few sentences we never expected her to say. From family drama to insecurities about her marriage and the viral Ashley Tisdale essay about their mum group, there’s a reason why she’s choosing to speak on these subjects at this particular moment. The Epstein story has entered a significant new chapter as UK authorities investigate high-level ties to the late financier. While names like Prince Andrew dominate the headlines, we can't lose sight of the people at the centre of this saga: the survivors. As the fallout from the Epstein files leads to shock arrests and fresh questions, we’re joined by the lawyer dedicated to holding the powerful to account, Gloria Allred. And in headlines today, Savannah Guthrie has posted an emotional plea for the return of her mother offering a $1 million reward; A bomb scare has forced Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to evacuate The Lodge; Russell Brand has pleaded not guilty to two further sexual offences, including rape; Rapper Flavor Flav has offered to celebrate the US Women’s hockey team for real after US President Donald Trump appeared to offend them THE END BITS Support independent women's media Check out The Quicky Instagram here GET IN TOUCHShare your story, feedback, or dilemma! Prince William is carrying on, but he’s not calm about it. He and Princess Kate are at the BAFTAs today, but people are only yelling at them about his uncle Prince Andrew's arrest. Holly Wainwright’s question is: Might ‘complicit’ King Charles take the fall for his brother, and hand his sh*t skirt to William? Plus, "burnout feminism" is the name given to a 2020s shift that’s seeing women leaning out, quitting their jobs and embracing the pleasure of giving up. So, Jessie Stephens wants to know: After a very brief period of celebration, is female ambition just a bit cringe now? And the viral clip of Channel 9 reporter Danika Mason a lil’ bit drunk on-air at the Winter Games is only a fragment of the story. Was a full apology necessary to save a career, or is being "proper Danika’d" just the most relatable thing to happen on TV this year? Oh, and in other business, bar soap is apparently dying and Amelia Lester is not happy about it. The BAFTAs have shaken up awards season… and the internet has turned on one of Hollywood’s most “relatable” couples. On today’s show, we’re breaking down everything that went down at the BAFTA Awards — from the surprisingly safe red carpet to the wins that have completely blown open the Oscar race. One Best Actor upset has left Timothée Chalamet and Leonardo DiCaprio’s awards hopes looking a little less certain.Plus, the film dominating the night might just be the one that defines this year in cinema. Then, we need to talk about Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard. A viral essay dissecting their marriage — and the idea of being “hated by your husband” — has reignited long-simmering criticism of the couple. Their celebrity friends have rushed to defend them, but is this backlash actually about something bigger? We have thoughts.THE END BITSLove binge-watching TV? What happens when you're not just climbing the ladder, but standing at the very top? For Lize Ratliff, that meant achieving her dream job as Head of Podcasts at Mamamia, after 10 years hustling to get there. Lize’s journey is a masterclass in pure tenacity. She started at 19 as an intern from a small country town, so determined to work for Mia Freedman that she "literally didn't leave”. Over the next decade, she climbed the ladder through nine different titles - from intern to Mia's EA, to the first-ever producer of No Filter - eventually becoming the woman running the entire 29-show operation. For Lize, the birth of her first child was the catalyst for an enormous change. Realising the demands of the job were incompatible with the life she wanted as a mother, she and her husband came to a terrifying realisation: they needed to ‘blow up their life.’ In a move that left many stunned, they both quit their high-profile Sydney jobs, moved to Newcastle, and Lize enrolled in a Master's degree to pursue a completely new career: As a high school English teacher. This is a raw and candid look at what it means to walk away from the top. We cover the creative job application that got her hired, the moment she crashed her boss's car (and kept her job), and the overwhelming "what have I done?" feeling that hits after you trade a high-prestige career for a student ID. Get ready to learn why sometimes, you have to "just jump.” THE END BITS: Want more from Sarah Davidson? Check out her podcast Seize The Yay. Discover more Mamamia podcasts here. In the 1990s, Rachel Hunter was one of the most recognisable women in the world. A Sports Illustrated cover star and defining face of the supermodel era, she went from a teenager in New Zealand to global fame almost overnight. She later married Rod Stewart, becoming part of one of the decade’s most talked-about love stories. From the outside, it looked like the ultimate 90s fairytale. In this episode of No Filter, Rachel reflects on rising to fame at 17, her whirlwind marriage to Rod Stewart, and what it was really like to live inside that cultural moment. After recently appearing on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, she speaks candidly about motherhood, public scrutiny, and why the life everyone envied eventually wasn’t enough. Andrew Mountbatten Windsor was arrested last week in a move that many who have been following the release of the Epstein files and the collection of court cases that have been brought up in relation to matters around the former Prince Andrew and his dealings with the late convicted child sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, never thought would come. This arrest, linked to alleged documents and information shared with Epstein while Andrew worked as an offical trade envoy, is now being investigated by police int he UK who on Andrew's birthday, searched his home at Sandringham and other properties linked to the former prince. It’s Friday, and it’s a news-free zone. Breathe out, friends, and let’s kick off with a splash of skincare nepotism — Gwyneth Paltrow’s daughter Apple is sharing how Mum asked all her “Goopy” friends to help fix her teenage acne and honestly, haven’t we all? Also, iconic magazine editor Anna Wintour just sat down with her successor, Vogue Content Director Chloe Malle, and served up a deeply awkward masterclass in 'Boomer vs. Millennial' work ethic clash. So, who wants to pay everyone 30 per cent more? Is it ever okay to mention your food intolerance on a first date? What about your ex? What about your mother? And who the hell does pay, in 2026? The New York Times has dropped a new set of 'Dating Rules'. Some are genius, some are unhinged, and yes, we have thoughts. And finally, we tackle a domestic mystery as old as time: Are you a box-flattener or are you... normal? Plus, recommendations. Jessie Stephens has a very helpful robot for you. Clare Stephens wants to help you unlock creativity (it's a new year, fire horses) and Holly Wainwright wants to show you her new pants. SUBSCRIBE here: Support independent women's media Recommendations Clare recommends The Writer's Studio which offers courses for aspiring writers. Holly recommends the jersey barrel leg pants from Uniqlo In a turn of events, Jessie is recommending Chat GPT (we're shocked too) for anybody who needs some design help when moving house. This week, Stacey Hicks, Amelia Lester, and guest host Clare Stephens are diving into the 'beige food' epidemic and why modern snack culture might be to blame for your toddler’s refusal to eat anything that isn’t plain pasta or chicken nuggets. And we discuss the the emotional cost of being an 'easy kid'. If you were the child who always got a gold star, never made a fuss, and now find yourself over-apologising to your barista, this one is for you. We talk about why we might actually want our kids to be a little bit... difficult. Plus, a heated debate over 'fart-proud' vs. 'fart-shame' households and why there's now official permission to stop feeling guilty about letting your kids watch TV. Our Recommendations: ⛸️ Stacey recommends getting your kids to record vlog style videos when FaceTiming the relatives gets too boring.
We’re diving headfirst into Emerald Fennell’s Wuthering Heights — a movie that’s as stylish and visually wild as it is divisive. And yes, our hosts have thoughts… plenty of them.We unpack the twisted romance of Cathy and Heathcliff, Emerald’s bold (and sometimes baffling) costume choices, and the way the movie navigates sex, consent, and obsession. Plus, we discuss how some characters get a total makeover from the book — and how that changes the story entirely. From moments that made us gasp, to scenes that left us questioning “what did I just watch?” — we cover it all. Strap in for our brutally honest review of the movie that dares to turn a classic gothic tale into a TikTok-ready romance.Read the article we mentioned about Heathcliff's character being white washed here. We’re all about high-low here at You Beauty. We’ll try and talk about it all, from a life-changing hair tie that’ll set you back 70 cents, to exactly what a $595 vitamin C serum feels like. On today’s episode of Spendy Savey, Kelly McCarren and Amy Clark share their best skincare, makeup, hair, body and fragrance recommendations, including the $19 Korean beauty blush Amy hunted down from TikTok, a retinal serum Kelly wishes she tried earlier, and our first impressions of the new (and very bougie) Augustinus Bader vitamin C serum. Kelly explains how she just casually stumbled across Mecca’s “best-kept secret” AND what she’s calling the world’s best hair ties on a recent IRL shopping trip. And alongside the one Hourglass makeup product everyone should try at least once, Amy’s breaking the rules (again) this week with not one, but three excellent Saveys – her affordable product picks were just too good not to share. EVERYTHING MENTIONED: SPENDY: Kelly: Stila Heaven's Hue Highlighter, $59. Amy: Rimmel Oh My Plump! Lip Shaper in Kinda Cute, $16.95 + Fwee 3D Volumising Gloss in Pink Candy, $20. Time to dive into a mix of toxic romances, grocery store mysteries, and the ultimate tribute to lifelong female friendship.First, we’re checking in on the Tell Me Lies fandom, which is currently "going through it" after its shock cancellation. With all three seasons now available on Disney+, we discuss why this collegiate drama is the perfect, albeit triggering, binge for anyone who loves a messy, narcissistic romance. Then, things get steamy and suspicious with a new erotic mystery thriller on Amazon Prime. Based on a best-selling novel, this eight-episode series follows a couple who meet at a supermarket (suspicious!) and stars Dove Cameron and Avan Jogier. It’s the perfect blend of grizzly murder and high-intensity chemistry. Finally, we head to Northern Ireland for the new caper from the creator of Derry Girls. It’s a hilarious, fast-paced love letter to millennials that will make you want to call your mates immediately.Plus, a little PSA: Our Brutally Honest Review of Wuthering Heights is dropping in the feed this afternoon at 3pm. If Barack Obama says there are aliens, then there are aliens. While the former President is busy clarifying that he didn't actually see any ETs in the Oval Office, Jessie Stephens has a theory: Is men’s obsession with outer space just a symptom of not having enough mental load? Plus, the political "pub test" is officially dead, and the "algorithm test" has moved in and made itself comfortable. We’re looking at why the Internet is both the world’s best fact-checker and its most dangerous bias-confirmer. And Holly Wainwright is asking, what IS the actual pub test in 2026? And because we clearly haven't done enough critical thinking, we’re wading into the chaos of Married At First Sight. Jessie, of course, is an expert in the field, and she’s bringing several philosophical questions from the new season, starting with: Can you ever come back from a sexual chemistry deficit? In other business, apparently, humans "fall off a cliff" at age 44, which is sending Amelia Lester into a spiral. Happily, there’s a pick-me-up coming: Hollywood A-listers are signalling that side-parts are back. What’s next? Skinny jeans and ballet flats? Oh. Outlouders, enjoy this free bite of Mia Freedman, Holly Wainwright & Amelia Lester. Catch the full chaos at 5 pm TODAY. Not a subscriber yet? Honestly, why wait? Holly loved Wuthering Heights. Amelia hated it. Mia was meh - probably the most batshit of all reactions about the most talked-about movie of the year. So today we get into it. Mia Freedman asks Amelia why she thinks Margot Robbie was so miscast as Cathy, why she wished Jacob Elordi came with subtitles and why she’d like two hours of her life back, please. And Mia wants Holly to explain why there was a barking woman on a leash, and whether the finger-sniffing scene was, actually, in Emily Bronte’s classic novel. It’s a no-holds-barred dissection of the choices made by Emerald Fennell and of course, why Mia walked out of the premiere. Remember, this is your free sample of today's subs episode.
