Today BJ interviews Wil Thomas. You can find more out about Wil on his website: http://behappynow.org.  WIl, as you find out, is a spontaneously, happy person, full of humor and insight.  Having insight in the moment links us to humor, especially if it's timely insight! The conversation comes into focus when we begin talking about how fear can thwart, short-circuit, and sabotage happiness.  Right now in our world is a fearful time, with so much changing, and so much cultural and social chaos. Many people are just unhappy. How is it that fear is at the root of it all?  Maybe it's important for all of us to find the way to happiness, so that we don't live in fear, and just cause the world, and ourselves, more suffering? I hope this conversation provides some laughter to your day... --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app

Each of us came into this life to experience a unique journey, and there is no way to screw it up. Everything is unfolding for us and each circumstance of life is an opportunity to grow. When we fully embrace this perspective on life, we open ourselves to living our greatest expression, which is precisely what this world needs from us. Life is counting on each one of us to find out who we are and live that truth without abandon. Although our essence is exact, our voice in this world is distinct. We came here on purpose, and we matter greatly to the whole. The path of awakening is an ever-morphing evolution, and it's essential to allow ourselves to be ever-changing by releasing the fight to stay the same. The mind is tricky as it wants to control everything. As we train the body, we should also train the mind. Mental training is not just a byproduct of a challenging workout; it is a disciplined practice that begins with paying attention. It is critical to celebrate our uniqueness, but this cannot happen until we can see what doesn't serve our greater good. We cannot see what no longer helps us until we discipline ourselves to live from the present moment. Today BJ and I dive into questions from the YT community. We dig into inquiries on uncoupling ourselves from a punishing mindset, the relationship of posture and pain, trail running technique, and quicker leg turn-over for increased speed. We address the mind, body and spirit because they all play a role in an athlete's ability to be their best in training and racing. We hope you enjoy this episode and appreciate your help in creating this meaningful conversation for the world of endurance sports. Thank you for tuning in and supporting the show week after week. Today BJ and I are joined by two official ultrarunners, Liz and Jill. This past weekend the three of us threw it down on the Mendocino 50k course while BJ and Clark ran support. For months we've been stressing, resting and adapting for our big day and it all paid off with big returns. We dive into our race experiences and very individualized training which led up to race day. This podcast serves as the perfect example that there is no "one way" to train to reach a goal. BJ and I moved to Southern California in 2016 because we were absolutely done with New England winters and eager to train outdoors all year round. Living in San Diego has delivered exactly that as well as amazing trails for me to train on so course simulation was not a stretch. Liz lives near Boston but in the country, so she did have access to trails, that is once that snow let up. Oh, it hasn't let up yet? Well, somehow she managed to get a few weeks in before the big day on top of a training weekend on the west coast with yours truly back in March. And then there was Jill who ran on the trails for the first time this past weekend. Training in Brooklyn did not lend to ideal conditions but she made the best out of what she had and ended up killing it in Mendo. In her words, "You do what you do with what you've got". Apparently, she managed to stow a lot away over her 15-week training block. We recorded this show the morning after the race, sleep deprived and inflamed so let us know if you are left with curiosities after a listen. Reach out on social and we'll be sure to address them on our next Ask the YTs. Thank you so much for tuning in, we are in deep thanks to each and every one of you for your support. Our Patreon page continues to build and if it is placed on your heart to support the show in that way please make your pledge today. This community is an unstoppable force and I cannot wait to see what we will all build together in the future!

Today BJ and I celebrate our 20th Christmas together and having left our closest relatives on the east coast it will be just he and I and Clark. We will teach yoga, we will take a family walk, we will meditate, we will rest our physical bodies and we will fine tune our minds because we know there is no time off for a mindful life. When we first started our journey together we purchased and decorated trees and we exchanged presents for many years. As our curiosity and commitment to simplicity continued to grow those traditions have fallen away and our connection to the holiday of Christmas has shifted greatly. It's no longer about what we want but honoring what we have in the deepest sense of gratitude. December 25th is the birthday of Jesus Christ, a man who I believe was here on this earth to show us all how to love more. He was a yogi. He studied in India. He was the embodiment of all things mastery. He was everything I aspire to be. Mastery is a state of completion. A place of being where there is no lack or limits. And above all else, it is a state of neutrality. It is, in fact, a state we already possess deep within us but not until we train our minds to experience deep presence will we be able to touch that part of us. Not until we still ourselves enough to experience what is brewing under the surface will begin to experience our unshakeable selves. It is our intention through YogiTriathlete to assist every person who is ready to walk their path to mastery in sport and life. This is where our true selves reside, this is where our goal paces get crushed and this is where there is never another disappointment to experience. This is the Awake and Ready life and this community is overflowing with natural born seekers tapping into their inner badasses every single day. We are honored to have you along for the ride. In this episode, we take listener questions and in answering each one we share our knowledge, our wisdom and our truth.  Showing up to this podcast every week has been a life-transformative experience and without your support, we would not have the platform that exists as the foundation for our mission to create a better world. Thank you for showing up every week. Please share this show with your community, become a patron on Patreon and for sure subscribe and leave a review on Apple Podcast. A warrior is someone who is always ready for battle but never a threat to their community. One who is awake and ready. A person who is willing to see how they move through the world and someone who does not run from vulnerability but embraces it as a powerful stepping stone in the process of self-growth. Today BJ and I share our warrior stories, news from our battlefield of life - the joyful, the intense and the dark, as in the case of Jess's recent universal butt kicking. We play catch up this month to fill you in on what's happening in our world and how we're navigating the challenges that we are encountering on our path of purpose. BJ is less than two weeks out from Ironman #2 of 2017 and we dive into his recovery and ramp up for Ironman Wisconsin. Jess opens up about a very difficult time that she was asked to navigate in her life and admits that she wasn't always on the winning side. We talk about the importance of being a beginner and we take a listener question on how to detach while still setting goals in life. Skill is what it takes to master this life and we hope that you are able to take away some more tools for your journey from this episode. Thank you so much for your support and we ask that you please leave a review on Apple Podcast - we are 74 reviews away from hitting our goal of 100 by the end of August. It only takes a few moments of your heart to make a major impact on the life of the show.
