Rachael and Ruth discuss the anime Rachael's watched over Christmas: the fourth MHA movie and Trigun Stampede, the reboot of beloved classic Trigun. They also review the first episode of queer sci-fi Pluribus and wonderfully trashy series The Hunting Wives.Includes brain fluffs, singing, impressions and various dated pop culture references (they are millennials, after all).
What if a Quirkless kid could change not just himself, but an entire system built on power? We go all-in on My Hero Academia, charting a ten-year run that evolves from entrance exams and classroom duels into a hard look at institutions, ideals, and the price of becoming a symbol. We start with the spark—Deku's worthiness, All Might's mask, and why that first “You can be a hero” still hits—then follow the fuse through the sports festival, Stain's critique, and the moment admiration turns into intention. The middle chapters raise the stakes and the questions. Overhaul's use of Eri, Lemillion's sacrifice, and Endeavor's Prominence Burn test what heroism looks like when smiling isn't enough. The war arc blows the doors off: Mirko's charge, Hawks and Twice's irreconcilable truths, Dabi's televised confession, and a society that stops believing. Deku's vigilante stretch becomes a mirror—strategy sharpened by exhaustion, compassion strained by isolation—until Class 1A drags him back, not with punches, but with proof that heroes stand together or not at all.We dig into late-game pivots and payoffs. Star and Stripe's last move, the UA traitor reveal, and Toga's final choice reveal the engine beneath the spectacle: people shaped by neglect, incentives, and myths. The films get their due—Two Heroes' mentorship, Heroes Rising's “what if the torch moved,” World Heroes' Mission's global stakes, and a “You're Next” pretender who misunderstands what makes a symbol real. Finally, we unpack the ending: Deku's decision to give power away, the difference between peace and hope, and why a single stranger taking a child's hand might be the bravest image in the series. If this journey rekindled your Plus Ultra, tap follow, share with a friend who loves a good transformation arc, and drop a review with your top three MHA fights. This week on the Normal Nerds Podcast, we break down one of the biggest anime weeks of the year in our weekly anime recap podcast. We start with the My Hero Academia finale, closing the book on nearly 10 years of My Hero Academia anime. We discuss why the final episode worked emotionally, how Deku's story wrapped up, standout character moments, and why this ending deserved way more hype across the anime community. From there, we cover a packed lineup of current anime episodes:Spy x Family Season 3 delivers peak comedy and rising tension, with Yor, Yuri, and Loid caught between absurd misunderstandings and a serious espionage plot. One Punch Man Season 3 continues to disappoint with skipped fight scenes, poor animation choices, and changes that undercut the manga's impact.Tojima Wants to Be a Kamen Rider proves it's one of the most underrated anime of the season, featuring a brutal tournament fight and excellent character development.May I Ask You One Final Thing? brings sharp action, humor, and an unforgettable after-credits scene.Gachiakuta Episode 23 slows the pace before setting up massive future storylines. And finally, One Piece Episode 1153 delivers an all-time great moment with Joy Boy, Conqueror's Haki, and lore revelations that shake the entire series. We dive into anime reviews, episode breakdowns, animation quality, storytelling payoffs, and the moments that should have broken the internet but somehow didn't.If you're looking for a weekly anime podcast, anime episode reviews, or honest discussions on My Hero Academia, One Piece, Spy x Family, and seasonal anime, this episode is loaded from start to finish.Support the show

This week on The Normal Nerds Podcast, Maxwell and Davis dive headfirst into another Weekly Anime Recap — and it's stacked. The boys break down the latest episode of My Hero Academia Season 8, praising its perfect balance of emotion, action, and classic hero sacrifice energy. They debate whether Deku's plan is genius or insanity, geek out over Shigaraki's new look, and somehow end up connecting it all to the story of Jesus (don't worry, it makes sense… kind of). Then they jump into Spy x Family Season 3, laughing their way through Yor's sports dominance and unexpected volleyball destruction. And of course, they rave about how great the new anime Tojima Wants to Be a Kamen Rider is — a wild, heartfelt surprise that might be one of the most fun new shows of the season. If you like chaotic anime debates, accidental theology, and totally normal nerd energy, this is your episode.
