Predsednik Slovenskega doma San Martin Marjan Boltežar nam je še povedal, da je krovna organizacija Zedinjena Slovenija v bogatem kulturnem programu - ta je potekal kar v dveh delih, med drugim je nastopil tudi Mendoški oktet - podelila priznanje. Prejela ga je dolgoletna voditeljica slovenske šole Nina Pristovnik Diaz. Marjan Boltežar je podčrtal, da uspešnega dvojnega praznovanja ne bi bilo brez številnih sodelavcev in rednega, vsakodnevnega prizadevanja za slovenstvo.

In this episode of Take-Away with Sam Oches, Sam talks with CEO Kevin Miles and CMO Alicia Mowder of Mendocino Farms, a Los Angeles-based sandwich and salad fast casual with about 100 locations in six states. Mendocino Farms — affectionately known to fans as Mendo — has been around now for over 20 years, and in the course of its history has helped to redefine what is possible in a fast-casual setting. Mendo serves high-quality sandwiches and salads in a counter-service setting, but with an emphasis on dine-in occasions driven by high-touch, friendly service. That experience sits somewhere between traditional fast casual and full service, and while it leads to a higher ticket average, it's clearly resonating with guests; according to the most recent Technomic Top 500, Mendocino Farms grew sales by about 20% last year to around $300 million, with AUVs coming in at $3.76 million. Luis Mendo is a Spanish-born illustrator based in Nagano, Japan, and his work is unmistakably, irreducibly human. His drawings are populated by bespectacled bird-like figures — part alter ego, part philosophical sparring partner — rendered with the kind of warmth and specificity that no prompt can summon. There's a hand behind every line, and you feel it. That's not an accident. It's a philosophy. Because as we talk about in the show, as non-human intelligence becomes cheaper, the human touch, and real, earned, interpersonal trust will become the rarest currency (to paraphrase Anu Atluru's quote). Luis' path is anything but direct. After two decades as a successful art director and editorial designer in Amsterdam — building magazines, running teams, living inside meetings and inboxes — he took a sabbatical in Tokyo and never really came back. Ellen is leveraging her twenty years of experience growing food brands to help early-stage founders understand their purpose, operationalize their values, secure the necessary resources, and hopefully avoid some of the mistakes she made. In 2015, Nation's Restaurant News included her on their annual Power List, and in 2020, Nation's Restaurant News named her the 50 most influential women in food service.
