Here's what Natasha got into now that she's back in The Bay:Big tech: Real quick, you should know that Elliott Management took a multi-billion stake in Salesforce, while Thoma Bravo scooped up a digital forensics company for $1.34 billion. Beyond that, the big tech news this week is Microsoft's multi-billion dollar, multi-year investment in Open AI. The extended partnership comes with lots of resources, quirks and legal headaches. Big idea: we're still thinking about this Anna Heim analysis, "The mirage of dry powder." Natasha talks about wet capital and failed capital calls, as to contextualize (not shut down!) some of the optimism in the market right now. (Use code "EQUITY" for 50% an annual TC+ membership).Big innovation (or in this case, reductions): Google's in-house incubator, Area 120, was severely impacted by Alphabet layoffs and Spotify cut 6% of staff, two layoff stories that had us thinking all about the fact that tech seems to have forgotten its umbrella. We end with tongue-twister note on Quordle, which just got scooped up by Merriam-Webster. As always, you can support Natasha by following her on Twitter and Instagram. Hey there, I'm C.Lee Cawley and today I share how I use Intentional Margins® in my everyday life and especially how I start my day for success. Transcript Hello, people. You are listening to Everyday Happiness with Katie Jefcoat. But today I am taking over. I'm C.Lee Cawley, and I'm thrilled to be here. Katie asked me, how do you use Intentional Margins® in your everyday life? And I think that I call Intentional Margins® having routine and rewards, but it's the exact same concept. So when Katie spoke of this, I was like, “Oh, yeah, I do that all the time.” One of the ways I do that is every day I get up, I get on my treadmill or I go to Zumba class. I try to start my day with movement, and that sets my day up in a really positive way. I've already accomplished something before my day is even started. The second thing I do is every day I make my husband and myself a healthy breakfast. And we sit and eat breakfast while doing the Wordle. And it's such a nice time of connection. Sometimes it takes us no time at all. Sometimes it takes us quite a lot of time, but it's something that we're doing together. And talking about our day gives me a point of reference. So just starting my day in those two ways by incorporating movement into my day as a routine and connecting with my husband, we've been married for over 30 years. And by having a healthy breakfast that I prepare him lovingly, that he eats happily and doing this kind of brain exercise on Wordle. And sometimes we even go on and do the Heardle and then he'll do the Worldle. But it starts our day off in a positive way, and that sets me up for a lot of success. So making the time, just as Katie says, really does make a difference. So I suggest you decide how you're going to use Intentional Margins® in your life, and know that I'm still going to be here tomorrow to chat to you more. I'm loving this podcast takeover and I'll see you then. Common Man Progrum HOUR 3 --Mark Rosen --Heardle Controversy --KOC Presser
It's almost Thanksgiving, so it's time to reflect on this year and the things that have enriched our lives, taught us something new, or just helped us get through the hard spots. We are talking the parts of pop culture we are thankful for this year! My friend Barb Roose joins me for this conversation, and she not only has a lot to be grateful for but also a lot of insight into why and how pop culture adds value to our lives. Barb is a sought-after speaker, successful writer, and brilliant literary agent—as well as a fellow writer at (in)courage, the online community I've been with since 2009. So of course she has a lot to offer! And you know, because this is The Couch, where side notes and rabbit trails are always welcome, we certainly got off topic a bit. But it could not be helped. We needed to talk about faux leather jackets, high school plays, the necessity of naps, and our approaches to seasonal thermostat decision making. This is an especially fun episode too, because I asked you what you're thankful for this year and share some of your answers as well. Before we jump in, though, a quick reminder that time is running out to purchase your tickets to the Hooked on Holiday Movies LIVE Event coming up on the 19th. It's not too late to plan a road trip or girls night out (or both) and snag your tickets. Head over to HookedOnHolidayMovies.com to get them now! Okay, let's get started! It's so much fun! Find Barb on her website, where she will give you a free ebook about self-care or on Instagram at @barbroose. And you can find me on Instagram at @marycarver or at marycarver.com. So many of us are dealing with stress in many different forms. In this show of the Dad's switch the batting order around and take a stress quiz early in the line up and then have some discussion and even try out a few ways to de-stress or decompress after or during a long family day or week while discussing an article from Fatherly that gives us stress relief activities. Then plenty of off-topic funny parenting tweets of the week and on to onto finish line as we'll take on a couple questions from our popular new “Would you rather” segment and finally they wrap up with things that make them smile. Speaking of things that make us smile... Manuka honey, fresh socks, Heardle, food store worship, superpowers, tattoos and much more in this packed episode!

Oh...in a spicy social media slugfest, Joe and Robert discuss what will happen now that Elon Musk has turned his back on Twitter. Spotify buys Heardle, but have they figured out their "real" business model? Bloomberg sure doesn't think so. And the boys go at it again on the future of Clubhouse. They agree it's only mostly dead. Hello and welcome back to Equity, a podcast about the business of startups, where we unpack the numbers and nuance behind the headlines.Alex, Natasha and Mary Ann enjoyed yet another edition of Equity Live this week, hopping on Twitter Spaces to chat everything from Musk's meme suit to a new take on Wordle that landed Spotify's attention. When we stopped recording the episode, news broke that Stripe is cutting its internal valuation by 28%. Luckily, we do this three times a week to stay tuned for our take soon.In the mean time, here's what we got to in today's episode:Spotify acquired Heardle, which felt like a throwback to trivia and of course a nod at its famous predecessor, NY Times-owned Wordle. Only one of us has played the music guessing game so far, so tweet @equitypod your thoughts on if it's actually fun.We also spoke about a startup that is trying to address male infertility in a personalized, engaging way. It caught investors attention, and ours too.Our last deal of the week, Continuum, gave us a chance to talk about productizing one of the worst jobs in startups: laying folks off. The fractional work play feels even more important given the volatility of startups across all stages right now. Hopin, for example, conducted its second layoff within four months this week and parted ways with its COO, CFO and other executives. Medium had an executive shake up, with Ev Williams stepping down. The last two themes of the episode were built around Instacart and the future of grocery delivery, as well as the latest of the Twitter and Elon Musk saga.Equity drops every Monday at 7 a.m. PDT and Wednesday and Friday at 6 a.m. PDT, so subscribe to us on Apple Podcasts, Overcast, Spotify and all the casts.
First, we break down the 3AC situation where the founders were reportedly MIA for about 12 hours (1:52). It's a complex situation, and we try and make sense of it. Then, we cover Matt Taibbi's deep-dive article on Circle (8:10). Jason also gives his thoughts on a recent Twitter thread about how to succeed as a low-level startup employee (33:27). And we wrap with a little M&A story from Spotify (40:50)! (0:00) Jason tees up today's topics!
