I det etthundraåttiofjärde avsnittet av ”Maratonlabbet - en podcast om löpning” pratar vi med Christian Malmström och Anton Gustafsson som båda utmanar om SM-guld och svenskt rekord under Växjö Ultrafest kommande helg. Christian ska springa 24-timmars och siktar på att komma väldigt långt, ambitionen är att få med sig både guld och svenskt rekord hem till Karlskrona. Senast han sprang SM kom han tvåa efter Erik 2022 på knappt 26,2 mil. Nu är han i ännu bättre form och berättar om sitt träningsupplägg som är inspirerat av den norska modellen. På 100 km ska fjolårsvinnaren Anton Gustafsson försöka utmana Micke Ekvall om guldet och han är i stort sett säker på att någon av de två eller Olle Meijer kommer att slå Jonas Buuds svenska rekord på 6:22.44 om inte något oväntat inträffar. Anton har haft en bra träningsperiod bakom sig med bland annat flera långpass på löpband som inte många andra skulle ha klarat av. Dessutom får vi en rapport från Erik som har bott själv i en stuga i Dalarna i nästan två veckor för att undvika sjukdomar, hur är hans status inför helgen? Johan har gjort ett tröskeltest på Aktivitus och sprungit Premiärhalvan som ett hårdare träningspass. På samma lopp imponerade Maratonlabbets adepter Thea Emilsson och Måns Andersson stort när de båda sprang in på nya personliga rekord på distansen. Hör dem berätta om succéinsatsen. Det här är ett unikt tillfälle att lyssna på vad tre rekordlöpare inom ultra tänker om volymträning. Vi har bjudit in Tobbe Gyllebring och Erik Olofsson för att tillsammans med Johnny ge oss facit på vad som är det optimala träningsupplägget. Tobbe och Erik kommer att stå på startlinjen till SM i 24-timmars i april och samtalet kretsar kring detta – och kring om det är tung styrka, alternativträning, löpteknik eller bara mer volym som är det som gäller! Erik Olofsson slog igenom i ultrasverige när han tog SM-medaljer på både 100 km och 24-timmars 2021, och året efter satte han nytt svenskt rekord i 24-timmarslöpning med 266.6 km med Johnny support. Erik har i många år hörts i Maratonlabbets podcast där han ofta har pratat om sina satsningar på kortare distanser.  Tobbe Gyllebring har varit med i ultrafamiljen länge och bröt igenom på allvar när han sprang TEC 200 miles 2015 på 40h och 50 min. Tobbe är också den svensk som har sprungit flest varv på en backyardtävling någonsin. Och 2023 snodde Tobbe det svenska rekordet i 24-timmarslöpning från Erik och förbättrade det till 272,1 km och Tobbe är också nuvarande rekordhållare.  Och så har vi såklart Johnny Hällneby som innehar det svenska rekordet på 6-dagars med 88 mil. Vi träffar Sebastian Pokorny och pratar om kommande 24-timmarstävling på Växjö Ultrafest. Vid inspelning är det 11 veckor kvar så dags att finslipa formen och planen! Johnny har supportat Sebastian på 24-timmars vid två tidigare tillfällen, 2020 och 2021 på Skövde Ultrafestival. Båda gångerna gick det inte som dom hade tänkt sig, så vad behövs för att dom ska lyckas bättre den här gången? Kanske kan det hjälpa att Sebastian nu är lite äldre, lite klokare och har fått mer perspektiv på livet? On the first weekend in April there was a very special event in Crawley. On the 400m athletics track at the K2 Leisure Centre, the Freedom Leisure British Ultrafest 24hr Running Championships took place.  A field of 30 runners competed in an event where they would each push to run the greatest distance they were able in a 24hr period.  More still came to run 12 and 6 hour versions of the same event. That's 6, 12 or 24 consecutive hours running around the same track.  As endurance events go this is uniquely challenging.  It is a cutting back of endurance to a matter purely of running ability and the strength of mind to persevere with almost no distraction from noon one day until noon the next. In a special edition outside broadcast, Will talks to the runners and organisers to find out why these athletes take on this massive distance. Featuring, among others, Dan Lawson of Team GB, William Sichel, a multi-record holder and the first Brit to finish the world's longest footrace within 52 days, and Abichal Sherrington who has completed that same race among dozens of others from marathon to 1000 miles.

Episode 2Just checking to see how things are running. No new material yet, but I'm working on a mix for a mix contest hosted by reddit in the trance sub-reddit. Here in episode 2 we have an old mix from back in my vinyl record days circa 2003 when I was known as DJ Dex. The mix was entitled "happiness in hell," I did the mix so long ago that I don't know the full tracklist off the top of my head and would have to dig through my vinyl which isn't in the same state as me right now. It includes many classic tracks from the late 90's and early 00's. Great show! They played for almost three hours which for the ticket price (25 bucks) was a crazy deal. Their set was similar to the one played at Electric Zoo 2011, but was still a great time and a great precursor to the upcoming Ultrafest.
