Nel linguaggio Comcaac il nome con cui è chiamata la loro etnia significa semplicemente “gente”, ma le popolazioni vicine, tra cui gli Yaqui, li chiamano Seri, che significa “uomini di sabbia” – il che fa pensare un po' al film Dune.
