So I'm sitting here outside in the sun, some flashbacks of my childhood and you know, random scripture flashes across my brain, Ecclesiastes 1:9- there's nothing new under the sun. You're absolutely right. We may have more technology and children may be a little more outspoken than previous generations; but so were you at some point. So I ask the question, ‘what are you teaching your kids?' But also, ‘what are you learning from kids?' That's what season 3 is all about; learning. You find out that kids are born innocent and it's what they're taught that shapes their prospective and personality. Come listen to my conversations with grade school kids (Kindergarten-12th grade) and notice that the questions are the same, but the answers change the older they become. You'll also hear from kids ‘at heart' that give a perspective of being impressionable upon young minds and the responsibility that comes with it! No matter the results, you need to find a purpose and an adjustable plan for yourself. I'm basically saying, whatever you're going to do AFTER-plan it! You will get to either after your REIGN or after the STAGE. In my case retirement (officially this time
As we are winding down, I hope you have taken some tips with you along the way and also gotten to know me a little deeper than just a ‘sassy' attitude (I loathe that descriptive word used about me- please don't use it
We have now entered the BREAK season of my pageant career. It's very important to have SELF CARE moments for yourself. If you do pageantry for too long, you'll define yourself BY it. And really believe that your worth is determined by 5-7 DIFFERENT people every year. It makes it even harder when you're 19 years old and still on that discovery of WHO you are without consulting and giving weight to peer judgment and commentary in front & behind your back. At THAT point, yes you need to REST & FOCUS! Welcome to another episode! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/detangle/support
The time has come, the stage is set, it's time to rule! This episode dives into my first title, the freedom I had during my year of service, and my ticket into the world of Miss Alabama! Come on in and take a seat! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/detangle/support
We have now reached the graduation from Teen to Miss. But even before getting on stage- I had to learn about Leadership. Especially leading as a Black woman, before a crown even touched my head. It was as if God knew I needed another lesson before taking this next step! So, we're going back to high school (Class of 2013 stand up ☺️), Senior year to be exact. So grab your agenda, pencils and pens, and that snack to stay awake in class with- and get back to my pageant journey. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/detangle/support
The story of my teen rookie Season on the stage is just getting warmed up. Ms. McTier can attest to it. LOL When I look back on my experience now, I was a mess with a great body. LOL But the optimism I had to try new things; I would never take that away. Sometimes I have to remember to BE OPTIMISTIC about life again- when I get bored and used to my daily work schedule. So keep enjoying my pageant journey. Again, if you catch yourself saying, “Bless her Heart' during the episode; I'm expecting it
I have, at this point, fully convinced myself to go for this dream; with NO training, NO full experience, & NO clue what I'm doing or where this all could take me. But I was willing to try. Come on in & listen to the first part of my Rookie years as a teen. Don't be alarmed if you catch yourself saying, “Bless her Heart' during this episode
How it all began. Apparently, my mom said I was 13, but I think I was TURNING 13 that year. Either way, I was young and it was ALL new to me. None of my immediate family (that I know of) did pageants; but I figured competing & winning would introduce me to new people, new experiences and bigger opportunities (which it has ). I just knew one day, I would be Miss America or Miss USA. That dream can still happen. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/detangle/support
Come listen in every day from May 29- June 5th and be inspired by my journey to a dream job I've worked for since the age of 12. This podcast mini series is for the dreamers who are told your dream is too big for us to understand the applicants who were told you have the credentials on paper; but you're not what we're looking for, the pageant girls who have always been told prepare when you're told NO, but never been told prepare for when you're told YES! the people who just love to root for the underdog! This series is for EVERYONE. Because we were (or still are) on our personal journey. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/detangle/support
