Nervousness, worry, and anxiety each have distinct different causes and cures. Worry usually involves a specific situation and is generally temporary. Anxiety is a persistent, generalized state of unease or fear that may not have any specialized trigger. Nervousness, however, arises from overstimulation of the nerves. Let's focus on this, because strengthening our nervous system can lead to permanent improvements in our well-being on all levels—body, mind, and soul.
Let's talk about nerves. I say this all the time—it is totally normal to feel nervous before a conversation. In fact, it's a good thing. It means you care. But what you do with that nervousness can completely change how the conversation goes. In this episode, I'm sharing three techniques I use myself and teach often—especially when people ask me how to stay calm, confident, and connected when it matters most. Whether you've got a big conversation coming up or just want to communicate with more ease, this one's for you. This episode is sponsored by Cozy Earth. Upgrade Your Every Day. The minutes of the January Federal Reserve meeting gave a cautious policy outlook. Nervousness about the economic consequences of US President Trump's policies was clear. In particular, the potential for Trump to ignite a further wave of inflation was cited. Companies seem more willing to pass on import tax increases to end consumers than in Trump's first term (perhaps because consumers have become more accustomed to price increases). The potential for profit-led inflation may exaggerate that.

It's "déjà vu" in the Asbury 6, according to John Kosar, pointing to three of the six gauges sitting in negative territory. John notes the weakness in market breadth pins too much pressure on Big Tech, which could signal a slide to the downside in the SPX. Volatility climbing higher also shows nervousness in the market, despite investors anticipating a Santa Claus rally. ======== Schwab Network ======== Empowering every investor and trader, every market day. In anticipation of basketball tryouts today, my 12-year-old went to the park to get in some practice with friends last night. When he got home, he proudly shared that an older kid at the park complimented “hoops”. On the way to school this morning, he told me that he's feeling really nervous about tryouts. It's the first year the kids will be divided into varsity and junior varsity teams. This is big time! As we were walking, I talked to him about the close, often overlapping relationship between nervousness and excitement. “Mom, I know. You already told me being nervous and being excited are the same thing.” That's not exactly what I had previously told him…. They are not the same. But if you understand how they are the same and how they are different, you can often use your nervousness to strategically channel excitement. In this episode, I'll tell you what I told my 12-year-old on the walk to school. Additionally, we'll dive into the fascinating relationship between nervousness and excitement and how women leaders can leverage one over the other for powerful results. Both emotions share similar physiological responses—like increased heart rate, sweaty palms, and heightened awareness—because they are both driven by adrenaline. The key difference lies in how we interpret the situation: nervousness tends to arise when we see a challenge as a threat, while excitement comes when we view the same situation as an opportunity. Understanding this can be the first step in transforming fear into anticipation, empowering women to thrive under pressure. Listen in to hear me share actionable strategies that women leaders can use to shift their mindset and embrace excitement in high-stakes situations. From reframing nervousness as excitement, to focusing on purpose and meaning, to coaching yourself with evidence-based positive self-talk, these techniques are designed to help women leaders feel strong and grounded when stepping into something new, big, or perhaps scary. By connecting to your “why” and viewing leadership moments through a lens of possibility rather than fear, you can approach stressful situations with confidence. This allows you to shift your focus from potential risks to potential rewards creating the excitement needed to succeed. Whether you're preparing for a big presentation, leading a high-profile meeting, or stepping into a new leadership role, this episode will give you practical tips on how to harness excitement, reduce nervousness, and leverage your full potential as a leader. Buckle up. You're about to enter into the ether of a zen-like, hypnotic flow conversation with a +2 handicap index golfer who recently won his club tournament - at 54 years of age. Meet Jesse Perryman - a competitive amateur golfer, father of five, with a deep-rooted fascination of psychology (alongside a degree in it) and the host of the Flaghunters Golf Podcast. He's been golfing for over 40 years, including three years as a Division I golfer, alongside multiple tournament trophies. Jesse has an eerily similar and unique view about harnessing the power of your subconscious mind to play your best golf. In today's episode, you'll learn: The importance of setting intentions before a round, being present in the moment, and getting out of your comfort zone. The need to embrace nerves and doubts as part of the human experience and use them as a guide for growth. The concept of the pie chart, which includes technical skills, physical well-being, and the mental game as key components of improvement. Why ever golfer - no matter their handicap - should enter tournaments as soon as possible. How - and why - to practice passionate acceptance about their natural fear and nervousness on the course. The importance of accepting where you are in your golf game to facilitate growth. Get your pencils ready and start listening. P.S. Please excuse the audio on my end - I lost my voice that week and barely held it together for the conversation. Connect with Jesse Host of The Flaghunters Golf Podcast Twitter/X: @podflag > > > If you enjoy Jesse and I riffing (we've talked for HOURS), you can catch two more hours of conversation between the two of us discussing all things mindset on his show here: Conquering Self-Sabotage on the Golf Course with Paul Salter Achieving Flow State in Golf and Life with Paul Salter Key Takeaways: Setting intentions before a round can help golfers relax and alleviate stress. Being present in the moment is crucial for optimal performance on the golf course. Getting out of your comfort zone, such as playing in tournaments, can lead to significant growth and improvement. Embracing nerves and doubts is part of the human experience and can serve as a guide for progress. The pie chart concept highlights the importance of technical skills, physical well-being, and the mental game in golf improvement. Accept fear and nervousness as part of the game and embrace the energy in your body. Simulate tournament conditions in practice to prepare for competitive rounds. Play the golf course in your mind to develop the right mindset for playing your best. Meditation can help cultivate mental resilience and the ability to be comfortable in uncomfortable situations. Accept where you are in your golf game to facilitate growth and improvement. Key Quotes: "You need to be able to remember it under duress or if you're starting to go the other way, you're going to play well because I can guarantee your listeners that listen to this podcast, Paul, that if they do that, they will supersede their expectations during the course of the round." "When you can, when you start whatever that practice is, whether it's meditation, whether it's yoga, whether it's breath work, whatever it is, chanting, I don't care. Scottie Shephler's single greatest asset he has in his game right now is his ability to be in the present moment." "Your pie chart is in motion. It's in motion. You have the basics. Hey man, I want you to get up and work out every day or get some movement in your body. That's going to be huge because a stiff golf swing is not going to lend itself to fluidity of mind." "Whether you make this or you miss it, you're not going to die. So just get up and hit the damn thing." "What you resist persists." "Use one ball. Don't use three balls. Don't use a sleeve. Just use one ball." Subscribe to the More Pars Than Bogeys Newsletter. We just finished a series on public speaking fear and how to reduce nervousness during a speech. This week, I discuss how to better prepare for your presentation. For most people, the absolute most nervous part of the speech -- the place where they feel the most uncomfortable -- is right as they step foot in front of the audience. That nervousness builds to a crescendo up to that point. So, in this episode, I give my favorite tips for reducing presentation jitters from that day to a few minutes before you take the stage.

Brian founded Begin Again Performance Psychology to enhance the mental strength and well-being of athletes, performers, and business leaders. Mastering the "right before" phase, when emotions and energy can spiral, is crucial for success. Achieving the Ideal Performance State: Brian uses breath control, progressive muscle relaxation, mental imagery, and attentional focus on the first 2 seconds of the task to get into the zone or "bubble." Nervousness and Excitement are Physiologically the Same: The difference lies in perceiving the situation as a threat or challenge. Framing the energy positively allows you to use it to your benefit. Eastern Philosophy and Western Psychology Overlap: Both emphasize the mind-body connection and achieving optimal mental states. Embracing this connection can lead to more flow experiences. In this spirited episode of Packernet After Dark, recorded on March 20th, the podcast dives into a mix of prank calls, in-depth NFL team analysis, and lively debates over player contracts, draft prospects, and team strategies. Starting off with an unexpected sequence of prank calls, the atmosphere quickly shifts as Speaker 4 shares their trepidation about an impending urgent phone call. The conversation heats up as Speaker 2 champions Aaron Jones and the Packers' strong position to clinch the NFC North, contrasting with Speaker 1's skepticism of the Lions' prospects, citing their aging roster and overzealous fans. Speaker 1's critique extends to the Lions' draft history and the challenges posed by imminent player contract renewals, including key players like Jared Goff and Taylor Decker. A detailed breakdown of the NFC North teams reveals Speaker 1's doubts about the Lions as Super Bowl contenders, the Packers' quarterback advantage with Aaron Rodgers, and the Vikings' limitations despite a solid receiver corps. The Bears' recent trade involving Justin Fields sparks a humorous exchange between Speaker 1 and Speaker 3, encapsulating the frustration and mixed reactions of Bears fans. The dialogue takes a turn towards the NFL draft, with Speaker 3's surprise at the Vikings' trade and optimism for the Bears' prospects. Nepotism in sports hiring practices stirs a debate, with Andy critiquing the Packers' approach, yet Speaker 1 defends merit-based hiring regardless of familial ties. The episode further delves into quarterback draft strategies, likening it to real estate investments, and critiques on NFL teams' short-term vs long-term strategies, especially in free agency and draft trades. Speaker 4's advice on prioritizing youth and potential in running back signings aligns with the Packers' strategy, as the episode closes with speculative draft trade scenarios, balancing the thrill of the draft with the strategic considerations of pick value.
