Big Dumb Sports Podcast S1E5 - Cowboys Lay an Egg, Horns Steal a Miracle, and a Kneel That Wasn't - The Cowboys opened 2026 the way Dallas fans have come to expect: with Super Bowl talk in August and a prime-time face-plant in September. Sunday Night Football in the Meadowlands ended 28-20 Giants. The “new” defense got marched on, Dak tossed a momentum-killing pick before the half, and Brian Schottenheimer's first big 4th-and-inches decision was a punt. What's next? Washington at home this weekend, and a whole lot of “we'll clean it up” press conferences. College football delivered the opposite movie. No. 4 Texas trailed No. 1 Ohio State 23-3 late in the third, then scored 21 unanswered in the fourth. Hollywood Smothers punched in the winner with 25 seconds left. Largest fourth-quarter comeback against an AP No. 1 in the record books. Sark and Arch just rewrote the script. The Rangers sit 74-76 and open a nine-game homestand tonight against Boston, then Toronto and the Mets. Globe Life, nine games, ten days. It's now-or-never season: win this stretch or start thinking about next year's rotation. Quick hits on the other Dallas teams: Stars camp and prospect tournament are underway while the arena soap opera (stay at AAC or chase Plano?) keeps humming. Mavericks training camp and media day land in about two weeks — Kyrie back, Cooper Flagg era officially beginning. We close local. Northeast Texas high school football, and the ugly one from Friday night: Life Oak Cliff dropped 105-14 on Bonham on homecoming. The QB ignored a kneel signal and threw one more TD with seconds left. Sportsmanship debate, coach excuses, and a 91-point margin that nobody needed. That's the show: Cowboys hangover, Horns miracle, Rangers last stand, Stars/Mavs teases, and a high-school scoreboard that should've been turned off.

Season 1, Episode 3 of The Big Dumb Sports Podcast is a Texas-sized buffet of roster chaos, split-personality baseball, campus PR disasters, and Friday night scores that will not go on the recruiting brochure. The fellas unpack the Cowboys' cutdown week and the Joe Milton plot twist that left Sam Howell as Dak's backup after Milton lit up the preseason. Then they treat the Rangers like two different clubs sharing one laundry room: the one that actually wins at home, and the one that goes 44-3 whenever it bothers to score four runs. TCU's season opener gets a look, but the real horror show is off the field—the locker-room mess and the decision to ban the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the paper founded by Amon Carter, the same guy whose name is on the stadium.
